  • I love the sound of this tune, anyone know what its called?

  • Roy H knows hes got some Bad chops!! He jumps in the groove and flowssss!

  • Love Roy ! Great player, and soulful compositions.

  • Roy makes me fall in love with jazz all over again...U gotta luv it!

  • nah its justin robinson...roy's solo is beautiful though

  • I wish you hadn't edited the piano solo. But thanks posting this

  • dude is a beast on the flugelhorn

  • I love Roy's playing.

  • I'm diggin the metal mouthpiece on the alto. its demanding attention but without all the brash raspy sound of a hard rubber. even as he gets louder his tone is still pure. another person how has that sort of thing going on is paquito de rivera.

  • @JustJD08 pieces are really personal, but I think the design of the piece has more to do with it than the material. and I do personally like rubber on Alto, the profile feels better. A quick question though who sounds brash and raspy on rubber, that sounds more like the baffle is more high, and the dude is growling.

  • Yeah, the metal mouthpiece thing is a sax specific battle. I agree, I don't like metal mouthpieces on Alto. It is just too harsh sounding usually

  • (flugelhorn)

  • "not diggin the metal mouthpiece?" what?? what you want a wooden one? plastic? have you ever seen a trumpet up close?

  • i think.. he talked about the sax mouthpiece not the roy's trumpet mouthpice

  • for michelle.

    hafeez.

  • man, Hargrove is singing on the first tune. that's someone making everybody else sound good. killin

  • LINE UP:.. Montez Coleman dr, Clayton pno. Justin Robinson sax bass player I dont know.

  • The bass player is Danton L. Boller.

  • Roy hargrove is by far the best flugal horn and trumpet player ever. Iknow wynton has more technique but roy is still so much better anyway. Best tone quality of anyone who ever lived .

  • what about clifford brown?

  • @Glockyia i dunno about that one. wynton is waaaay more than technique. nobody plays the history of trumpet like him and he can play anything. no discredit to roy but better than wynton? i dunno about that one

  • @Glockyia You are so right his tone is unigue for a flugelhorn player the manis an artist

  • does anyone know the name of this song?

  • @superman53535 "Father"

  • justin robinson, he repeats the same ii-V-i progression at least 3 times ... that usually means he aint quite down with the chord sequence or key yet ...

  • Man i can't stand justin robinson... lol. He got his good times and bad times...

  • Great !

  • best flugel sound ever.

  • this dude is spittin out chralie parker licks like it aint nuthin

  • great alto solo...not a huge fan of the metal alto sound, but phrasing and vocabulary were amazing

  • dude he sounds Cannonball adderley-esque. Just listening to it, and not watching it, I coudln't tell it was a metal mouthpiece, guy sounds Killin!

  • his sound is nothing like cannonball...it doesn't have the round fluffiness...instead its like blaring electronic. again his ideas and vocab are nasty good, i just think the sound its not great

  • Yeah, he's got some good ideas but I'm definitely not diggin the metal mouthpiece. It's just so harsh. Not my cup of tea.

  • why are some of the solos cut out?

  • That's the great Danton Boller on the bass. Lives in NYC.

  • Thank you for posting this great clip!

    Who is on base?

  • so nice to sense it from that audience perpective. I'm so glad these great are cool with these youtube clips, as if they need to depend on record sales. Let the chavs destroy the girl/boy band shit they create on the charts!! Let great music rise up! Keep music live!!!

  • what's the name of the tune? I saw him at yoshi's in oakland last week. incredible performance

  • This song is absolutely beautiful.... big ups to Roy he's definitely one of my favorites

  • who's on alto?

  • Justin Robinson

  • It's Justin Robinson.

  • Yes Sir!!

  • thank you, for being a personal recording this is really good with decent sound quality. good enough to lift roys solo. you know what that first song was called?

  • thats gerald clayton on piano and montez coleman on drums
