This is a great tribute to the amazing talent of Pernell Roberts. Hoyt Axton not withstanding, the harmony was true and the voice of PR flows naturally from a practiced love of the art. It`s obvious Pernell has been singing all his life with great passion. Being a singer, I can tell you that you can`t do that kind of easy listening harmony unless you have. Both men are wonderful. They just read each others`hearts and the song followed! Thanks guys!!
This part of this episode always makes me sad because it's Pernell's last Bonanza Episode before Adam rode off into Bonanza history, breaking my heart as he went.... Just love that little laugh of his at the end. thanks for sharing Jutta... love it.
I like how mid Bonanza Pernell realized that he loved to sing and then they decided to give him time to sing on episodes. It cracks me up. But I love it.
@inkenyo He did not just decide mid Bonanza that he loved to sing. Singing was always one of his great loves. It was the producers and writers who did not accomodate it enough. He wanted it to be a part of the series from the very start.
I think PR never took a road leading away from himself...but was brave enough taking the alternative route in life. "Dead and gone" was Pernells last ep with Bonanza. He must have been very relieved that his contract expired at last.....That knowing laughter at the end - it speaks volumes. Bittersweet , the show never was the same
"Pernell Roberts" I hope I meet you in heaven someday, and I will love you forever...! Let the wind blow in your hair, when your ride into the heaven. For me you were my shining star, and I will never, never ever forget you. And let the angels watch over you, and protect you. For all the times who come, in the heaven... I will on earth, look up on the stars, and thinking of you... Just love you so much... "Amazing " Adam Cartwright"... Rest In Peace...
thank you for posting this video! This bonanza clip is my favorite. Pernell sings and looks just like an angel. I love when he lifts up that chicken leg right before he sings his part. And I love the way Hoyt Axton keeps looking at him thru out the song. These two sung so great together!
Great ep kinda sad though I just found out that this was the last ep that Pernell was in. I guess Hoyt and him became good friends after this ep though. Thanks for posting
I love listening to those two sing that song. I have this episode on an old tape and have absolutely worn out this section of the tape from listening to it so much.
Pernell did one album-Come all Ye Fair and Tender Ladies - and what a shame he did not do more. He has such a clear, pure voice. I just happen to have it too! I am a lucky girl!
Pernell Roberts and Hoyt Axton - without a doubt, two of the FINEST voices that ever caressed a song. What harmony! The lyrics of 'Endless Road' are so bittersweet ... and heartbreakingly appropriate.
videopony, bittersweet is exactly how I would describe it. In retrospect, the whole episode, while not a proper sendoff, was a lovely goodbye. And Hoyt Axton's voice is just incredible.
does anyone know where i could find chords to this song?

Every road I see leads away from me,
Theres not a single one that leads me home.
The roads keep saying, Friend, come see whats round the bend,
So is it any wonder that I roam?
All the places I have been keep calling me back again.
Down in the pines I hear the cold wind blow. [?? - Not sure about this line]
My heart keeps telling me, Footloose and fancy free,
And the road goes by and calls me as it goes.

Maybe somewhere theres a someone waiting there with a smile
And maybe therell be someplace I can stop and rest a while.
Cause maybe you werent meant to be just a rolling stone,
And theres a road to travel on that leads you back to home.
But Ill keep traveling on, keep looking at the dawn
Til I can lay this lonesome body down.
And when that day has come, I never more will roam,
And every road I see will lead me home.
