My Foot After Ankle Plate/Removal Surgery

I just had my plate and screws removed this morning and I am feeling the swelling and pain now. How long does that last. I know everyone tells me the pain won't be like the first surgery but OMG I am really feeling it ouch!

I had my ankle crushed by a forklift in 1999 and had major surgery 8 days later. They couldnt operate on it successfully until the swelling went down enough.

Last week I had surgery for second time, 8 of 9 pins removed, and one plate removed.

I hope this surgery helps the pain I've had the past 4 years.

For around 7 years the surgery and healing was okay but eventually pain from hardware started to get worse and more frequent.

hey mate, i broke 3 bones in my ankle i got a plate and 6 screws and my cast comes off in 2 weeks and all up iv had it for 10 including hospital stay for 2 weeks.

when do you think ill be able to just walk not run and do things on my own ?

@HardStylahz hopefully you're cast is off by now. i broke 3 bones in my ankle also and am getting a cast this thursday. i've been in a sling and am already so sick of not being able to do anything :( i have the same question you did, how long til you where actually able to walk around and just do stuff for yourself?

i have to get 2 plates removed but my foot is fully healed from the surgery i had that was in february but now i have to get the plates removed in december

Did they go in through all the original incisions? Mine are in my tibia and the scar is about 9 inches long. Will they cut that all back open to get the plate and screws? Your right not much out her on removal. Thanks!

Fracture my tibula and sprain my ankle bad enough I had to get surgery. They end up not putting screw in my ankle but nylon type string to pull my ankle together ( new technology stuff). Still in the healing process.

Its been about 2 weeks now, I have a follow up appt, this upcoming tuesday(the 19th) where they take off the cast and whatnot I got on now and the stiches?staples?... and I dont really know what to expect, more x-rays I assume to check on healing, then prob another cast stuck on for 4-6 weeks... ffs

Hi, I have a Trimalleolar fracture on my left ankle I broke my Tib Fib and Talus. How long did it take for your recovery? I'm desperate to get back to work and have just had my cast off after 6 weeks and I can weight bare with an aircast pump up thing. My pain comes not from putting weight on it but when I go to walk and bend my foot. Was this the same for you and are you now fully recovered or do you still have pain or a limp? I think I've too much time on my hands as I do get a bit paranoid i

So I had a plate and 8 screws put in my ankle after I broke it (duh). Now the screws are shifting and I need to have them removed. Im really worried cause it took a total of 3 months to recover from the first surgery... I know each body is different, but I've heard that recovery is quicker when just having them removed and I've heard other bad stories.... Any helpful suggestions?

the screw are nothing. I had 2 removed on the medial side. I was up walking in two days. If those screws start putting pressure on that nerve, you will hurry and have surgery.

hey erm im having a screw removed tomorrow it goes all the way through the bone at the bottom of my ankle and im gonna be awake when they do it but under local anaesthetic im just wondering did u feel it? and did it hurtt? :l im really nervous for it :S x

Hello dude! thanks for the video. I've had ankle surgery a year ago and also have a plate with screws. I'm going to have them removed a month from now. Do you know if it's advisable to run while you have the plate and screws on your ankle? Thanks!

Oh yeah meant to say as well lol, the below comment was supposed to say "cane" and i got 7pins and a plate, not as many as u i dont think. Im from Ireland, live in the states, and if i hear one more time, "Were u drunk when u fell?" Or, "Was the floor wet?" I will start running!!! Just a freak accident. Hey good luck to ya man! I broke both sides and dislocated my legs as well. After 12 wks on crutches, i just got a can yesterday, been in physio for 5 wks now, put me on the tred mill yday for the first time, i nearly flew of it. I didnt have the best doctors at all. Anyway,, good luck,, are you feelin any better at all? Hope its all goin well in recovery,, i know its longgggggggg!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck!

ty for posting this, i just had ankle surgery on thursday night, as of now im in the splint and will have the big boot in a week or so....i have two plates and 15 screws, and i have no idea what to expect...i dont think i get to have mine taken out though, i think my ankle was crushed and the plates are all that is keeping it together....seeing you ankle makes me not so scared to look at mine...

hey well i broke my ankle and had that metal plate inserted too i think the surgery was called ORIF but do u need to have surgery again to remove the plate?

And about how long after u had ur cast removed were u able to feel normal?
