  • If there is a song that God or His angels play when we contemplate Him in heaven, I'd like that it was this one. It's just superb.

  • One of Wagner's best pieces!!

  • Lovely.TY TheWicketNorth for posting.

  • At least nobody thinks that Wagner is cheesey - except James Joyce, that is, who said that Wagner stinks of sex!

  • im a european and im not antisemetic

  • @aljodewi Cool story bro

  • I motion to have the comment option removed from youtube. The reason is obvious.

  • What he lacks in moustache, he makes up for in genius.

  • The prelude is perhaps the most notable example in music of a lengthy passage in which a single harmony is used (Eb-major triad).

  • Re; Wagner's antisemitism. I figure that if Leonard Bernstein and James Levine can make peace with Wagner, than so can a white anglo-saxon protestant like myself.

  • I can see Nietzsche crying

  • @Matr64 That santimonious pessimist was probably always crying.

  • i like cheese!!!

  • Is it just me, or is this particular piece THE epic music of all epic music

  • oh why do people have to make dumb Hitler comments! Wagner was a genius! Modern music would not be the same without him. He may have been anti-Semitic, but hey, so was Woody Allen, we still appreciate his art :)

  • @MonkeyInTheBath -Woody Allen happens to be Jewish. Wagner was anti semitic as was Bach.

  • I like dropping huge turds to this....

  • It is amazing but not surprising to see how Wagner''s music, especially his leitmotif technique has influenced film music. The scores to Star Wars and Lord of the Ring are clearly influenced by Wagner and I have no doubt that Wagner if born into our days would be writing film music. In fact, he was writing film music before the medium even existed.

  • Greatest composer of all time

  • I wish the climactic ending never ended. I see the human race struggling and for a brief second I actually feel strength, pride, and HOPE. Not cheesy rhetoric hope used by politicians, but real unfiltered hope for humanity as a species struggling under the single banner of our mortality and bridge toward something GREATER!

  • Wagner videos on youtube should never have the comments section enabled. Period.

  • Everybody seems to forget that anti-semitism was fashionable for too many people in Ricky Babe's circle - doesn't justify what the ol' boy did, but how many people withstood peer pressure when Puppet King George II started a war killing 1,000's of innocent kids on the basis of a heinous lie?

    Wrulf Gunkl VonGlashaus-Steinberger

  • This belongs to ethnic Germanic people.

  • What I grow weary of is the tendency for any group to presume to have the right to explain to us which art and which artists we should admire or detest, whose history is more important, what the "actual" story is, which atrocities we should know about and which we should ignore, and in so doing , arrogantly assume ownership over art, history, science and morality. What's great about this kind of art is that it speaks for itself, it owns itself, or, in other words, it belongs to us all.

  • I love this as a purely instrumental piece as well but Solti and most other conductors even today like to conduct it a terribly slow dragging pace. It should be at least at a walking moderate pace. It's too dull when it's too slow. Check out George Szell and the Cleveland Orchestra performing this, Szell got it the right way.

  • i have to say, it sounds somewhat hollow without the singers with it.

  • I must admit I love the clarity and joy of Verdi more than Wagner, however, Wagner's music has a genius of its own and an almost divine power. Wagner's music and his libretti have immense appeal and worth. They reach the very limits of great art and so we must rank Wagner as among the greatest composers of all time. I still prefer Verdi and Puccini on a regular basis. Perhaps there is something less serious and sweeter with Italian songs and language.

  • Just

    Enjoy

    Wagner.

  • I did not know Wagner was anti-semetic for many years. I came to discover him because of the beauty of his music. Anti- anything detracts from the beauty and genius of the music.

  • what opera is this from

  • @paintballKid545 It's from Wagner's Das Rheingold.

  • @paintballKid545 Das Rheingold, first opera of the Ring cycle. I believe this is at the very end of the production

  • @paintballKid545 das rheingold. the ring cycle.

  • awesome, awesome, awesome song

  • The morons that talk about Wagner and "anti-semitism" are the same ones that think that Islam is suffering from our "misunderstanding" of its motives. In short, morons.

  • grande! una (quiza la mejor) overtura de todas las operas, nada comparable, el nacimiento de las aguas, los manatiales, el rin!

  • I like Hitler and Wagner!

  • ironically i was just reading an article about ragnarok when i saw this in the related videos

  • WAGNER IS LIKE GOD ALL OF HIS MUSIC GIVES PEOPLE DIFFERNT FEELINGS

so what he was a anti semite so was half of europe

Hitler liked wagner Hitler also liked cheese

  • @MINIHermanator

We can appreciate his genius at same time disagree with his bias; even if they quite prevalent at the time.

  • @MINIHermanator So thats why Hitler invaded France, it was all over cheese!

  • @ryfin2000 maybe he wanted some camembert or brie

  • @MINIHermanator Well...I'd like to see some historical documentation if Hitler did or did not actually enjoy cheese as much as you say he did ;D

  • @tonyKNIVESflo Trust me he was a cheesy person

i would also like to state that hitler was a vegetarian does that make all of these so called people EVIL?

Hitler hated beer does that mean all these so called people who hate beer are EVIL?

It is beside the point if hitler liked wagner does that mean all wagnerians are evil

  • @MINIHermanator

Wagner's music reaches deeper into one's soul than eating cheese or beer.

  • @C3F6D4 indeed it does

  • @C3F6D4 Beer helps....lol

  • @tonyKNIVESflo

Hitlers main reason for invading other conuntries was to take over their cheese making companies. He was driven mad by his obsession with the British cheddar industry. This has all been revealed on Wikileaks.

  • @MINIHermanator Everyone knows that cheese is evil though.

  • @TTmaniax YES IT GIVES ME NIGHTMARES LOL AHAHAHHAH

  • @TTmaniax Erm, that be the cholesterol within the cheese. Not the cheese itself...

  • @TTmaniax Depends on what kinda cheese... lol... I think Limburger and Dick cheeses are nasty.

  • @MINIHermanator agree, following the line of thinking you are objecting, you couldn´t marry because Hitler had wives. well, at least straight people

  • @cogtroper well the point is that great artists must not be seen as evil when the person who makes them evil came 60 years after the great artists death

  • @MINIHermanator haha 1883 and 1889 is only six years btw

  • @shadowalker00 the birth of hitler has nothing to do with it

  • @MINIHermanator either way your sixty year figure was wrong whoops

  • @MINIHermanator Cheese is anti-Semitic!

  • @MINIHermanator i think they should 'debate' about hitler on every cheese related video :D... Oh god! Jerry from tom and jerry are nazi! All the mouse in the world are nazi too!!! :D

  • @MINIHermanator while i agree with your sentiment, the difference is that cheese hasn't been known to hold anti-semitic contentions.

    At least, not publicly anyway

  • @MINIHermanator he died before hitler was born or like the 18 hundreds

  • Truly one of the finest moments in the history of music.

  • Comment removed

  • Wagner was an artist. Artists are fools. That's what makes them artists. I'm an artist, and, believe me, I'll fall for just about anything. But it takes a fool to try to approach God. To think it's possible to bring heaven to earth. Are we the richer for it, or just deceived ? Is the artist a devil or an angel ? Ha ha ha....

  • @johnhofi you an artist? hmm, perhaps a cock sucking artist, bitch!

  • @hopelesslyderanged hahaha very true!

  • Martin Luther was extremely anti-Semitic too, and that doesn't stop the Presbyterian church from basing their religion on his words. Just enjoy the music!

  • Martín Lutero mazidtheraider @ fundo la Iglesia Luterana .

  • Emocionante

  • Think of Wagner's antisemitism as a crude and early embodiment of the sort of distain of Bankers (moneymen) and the Islamophobia (religion of a segregated religious society) still prevalent and largely understood in today's western society.

  • Great, fantastic...thanks wagner

  • What ensemble is this? The low brass is pretty tame in this one

  • Incredible music and spellbinding Opera.

Sitting through nearly a six hour performance of Parsifal was an experience i will cherish and remember for many years.

It was not six continuous hours there was an interval or two but still mesmorising stuff.

  • the web site gnostic teachings gives a pretty informative course which interprets theDas Rheingold opera

  • HE IS DIVINE. PERIOD

  • I wish people would show a modicum of intelligence and stop going on about anti-semitism whenever they see a Wagner video. It's all been said before, ad nauseam.

  • Yes, a lot of Nazi B.S. in all Wagner posts.

Karajan was Nazi Mitglied as well and so what? How about Appolo's father Werner von Braun?

To all my Nazi 'friends' on this site my friendly advise: Find a job!

  • what happened to listening to the music for gods sake this is like a pathetic kindergarten argument that will get no where

  • I agree with "awachtel"... All these circumstances will fade in time... only these scores will give testimony of the best of mankind spirit of our time in a few thousands of years... Regarding hate, wars, destruction and cowardice, they are part of our core nature... Every epoch has enough of them to keep in due disregard those of yore. Only Art is forever!!!!

  • Well said friend... :P

  • Every single Wagner video is littered with the same idiotic circular debate. Give it a rest.

  • Yeah, kinda fed up with it too...just listen to the music and relaxxx people:P You get it awachtel!

  • @awachtel I agree. The Wagner, Hitler, Racism debates have been done ad nauseam.

  • @awachtel I completely agree. Chopin was completely anti-semitic but I don't see Jewish pianists boycotting his music. People need to end this ridiculous and tiresome debate and just enjoy this magnificent and supremely influential music.

  • @auerod .... Chopin at times made disparaging remarking about the Jews in but I think this was probably more a form of snobbery - many Jews in Poland were poorly off. I don't think Chopin was completely anti-Semitic.

  • @auerod Let the art be perfect, because the artist cannot.

  • @EugenicsChannel The germans have never liked jews. And Wagner hated them for no reason, the same with Hitler, they both had a lot of jewish friends in the beggining but then it changed and they started to hate them.

  • sad truth is that with only a small research you would have to conclude everyone across europe hated jews, for some reason or another. Politics aside Wagner's music is awe inspiring.

  • They always had. Who was the ones to blame for something? The jews but now the Gods have interfered. And the roles are turned. Israel will prevail. Crush the vermin of the world. The Nazis.

  • The Israelis have become the new Nazis.

  • Why they dont have any camps or Einsatz truppe. They only kill arabs because they are protecting hamas soldiers. And if they wanted to Israel would crush the whole middle east. The arabs cant put anything against it.

  • The Israelis have racial laws, such as forbidding marriage between Jews and Arabs, as well as not allowing the Arabs to be in certain areas of the country.

They may not have camps, but they are committing a holocaust against the Muslim world. First they got America to engage in this never ending war against Iraq, now it looks like Iran is going to be next, since the Jews are always slandering Iran in the media.

  • @OdinCalls14 - Many Israelis today are of various or mixed race, including those who are mixed Arab & Euro, considering Arab Jews were booted out of surrounding majority Muslim nations (Iraq, Syria, etc) after Israel formed. If there is a law in Israel,it's about Jewish and Muslim marriage, rather than a question of race. If you are a white caucasian non Muslim for example, try to marry a Pakistani Muslim girl in Britain and see how far you (or the woman) get, before her family hunts you both down.

  • @OdinCalls14 Off course the stupid vermin thinks that Hitler did right. If you ask me I would Destroy Gaza and deport all of the Arabs to somewhere else. And if they dont obey . Shoot first ask later

  • @Pleparn replace gaza with warsaw and arabs with jews. its terribly ironic how one nation can be oppressed and murdered by the thousands and then turn around and do the same thing to another. after a while you laugh. watch your thinking its dangerous.

  • For no reason? Are you serious?

  • Give me one then?

  • Read Wagner's "Das Judenthum in der Musik."

It's funny, some "scholars" are now trying to twist history to make it seem like Wagner had Jewish friends and admired the Jews. Ah well, some of us know better.

  • l'è belisim!

  • When Wagner was alive and working, Germany was one of the most humanistic and tolerant countries in the world. It had not become a nation in the modern sense, but it was still significant in Europe.

I don't know if Wagner was himself an Anti-Semite. But I know it would not make sense for him to be such. The early to mid nineteenth-century was a time of limited cultural assimilation for Jews in Europe.

The late nineteenth-century, post 1870 at least, was another matter.

  • I've fallen in love with Berlioz randomly enough...

  • i honestly think Wagner might be the best composer ive ever heard. Granted I dont listen to alot of compositions, but this seems so different and I dont find it as hard to relate to for some odd reason.

  • omg same

  • @EugenicsChannel

When Hitler was a teenager he fell deeply in love with a Jewish girl. The very sensible girl rejected him, thereby condeming millions of innocent Jews to death, but you can't blame her!

As a nation Germany wanted to blame someone for their defeat in WW1. Hitler, vindictively, gave them the Jews.

  • My god, are you that stupid?

  • ...I just know one thing...Hitler ,when he died, was a poor man, the only thing he own was a picture...

    That's it...

  • yeah whatever he said

  • Wagner the man, Wagner the composer, I don't like the man but by God the music, and the composer

  • Comment removed

  • @ Warwickcain well said. I believe that Wagner's favorite conductor was Jewish. Let the music have it's say and forget the rest.

  • @Warwickcain According to Bryan Magee in "The Tristan Chord," Wagner hated Jews for cultural reasons. Hitler hated them for racial and biological reasons, and Hitler's antisemitism was not derived from Wagner. The more one studies Wagner, the more one realizes that his art and his beliefs had nothing to do with Nazism. Wagnerites need to be plain about that, and not defensive. Wagner was not a proto-Nazi. Hitler loved his music, but Hitler also loved Goethe and Shakespeare.

  • @ConqueredSun Good point. Wagner was a very complex man. He may have hated Jews but his favorite conductor was Jewish. Also, did you know that Wagner had a composition banned by the Nazis? Parsifal was banned because it was pacifistic. Not all Nazis liked Wagner. Goebbels could not stand Wagners music.

  • @iamkwk All of your points are true and sound. Parsifal was banned, and Hitler had to "interpret" it's meaning to the point of caricature, where the Holy Grail does not symbolize renunciation and compassionate, universal love, but the purity of Aryan blood. Other Nazis were flabbergasted by what he "found" in the Ring, because they saw in the opera the denunciation of powermongering, war and oppression. I think that Hitler liked the Nordic myth aspects of the Ring, but he ignored its meaning.

  • @Warwickcain as a jew, I think this is an EXCELLENT comment. His music is beuatiful and inspired many of today's artists including John Williams.

  • @Warwickcain

''I mean, it adds a certain wickedness to the man which gives him depth.''

''Wickness'' being equal to depth is in the realm of 13 year olds who wears all black.

  • Being jewish is a religion. It is a Ethnoreligion

  • Hitler loved Wagner so much that his plan was to ban it! For me there are 3 main things that Wagner shows in The Ring is how love, truth & willpower always overcomes corruption. slavery & tyranny whether perpertrated by gods or man. Hitler knew that & of course could not allow such thoughts.

  • Judaism is NOT a race, it's simply a set of beliefs. The Jewish religion has a firm grasp on this and the consensus is that Judaism isn't to be looked upon as a race, ethnicity, or religion, but a belief and life style that must be upheld.

Most people don't understand the difference between Hebrew and Jew, Hebrews are one in the same as Israelites, they are a race of people, a group not belonging to a belief, but descendants and residents, much like 'Americans.'

  • magnifique, splendeur

  • god damn this is beautiful. i literally shed a tear around 1:15 and im still not entirely sure why.

  • The walhalla`s leitmotif cause it.

  • It means the music touched you :-)

  • the same people that persecute people like wagner are the same people that are driving merceds benz and other german vehicles. you dont see the jews complaining about that do you? you go to any parking lot at a jewish synagogue and you will see for your self..wagner was great composer that is all.

  • First of all, this is excellent music.

For many of those people, the difference is that they associate Wagner with Hitler. Hitler was a great fan of his work.

Therefor these people claim that Wagner must have been like Hitler (yes he didn't like Jews either, but Wagner lived in 1883 and anit-jew was the same back then as anti-muslim these days).

  • let sleeping dogs rest!!! a composer of such great music is relieved of his attitudes and actions by the mear fact that he is deceased. if he were alive i am sure that you would nail him to a cross...

  • Moreover, thanks for the interpretation of jewish conductor Zubin Mehta, with the orchestra of one of the zionist centres of the world...

  • Thank you, WickedNazi, for posting music from an opera that is a critique of capitalism, by a composer of jewish descent who was known for and persecuted (per warrant for arrest) for his anarchist and revolutionary activities, who was mostly despised as being some sort of an avantgarde eccentric artist and who, by slyly conjuring the Bavarian Kaiser, led the "State" of Bavaria almost into ruin !

  • It wasn't just Hitler's favorite. It was many people's favorite because it was so damned good.

  • Yeah, it wasn't like Wagner asked Hitler to like his music. Even better, Wagner was long dead before WWII.

  • enjoy his music and shut the fuck up! u racists!

  • @Bynkers83 Can you shut up?Stop with Nazism thematic, this is great music from a genius.Hitler:1889-1945

Wagner:1813-1886...So..Shut up and listen this marvelous music.

  • Who man calm down. It just seems like he was making a statement. Nothing racist about it to me. It could have well been Hitlers favorite.

  • Listen backward person it is possible to have a dead favourite artist.

  • Magnificent music. Listening to Wagner is like walking into paradise!!

  • Though it must be said that Geyer (who may or not have been Wagner's real father) may have been of Jewish heritage and there is some evidence that Wagner thought so (at least at some point). So Non-Jewish and Jewish may be a component in the scene between Siegfried (Wagner) and Mime (Geyer) I think it is more peripheral rather than the forefront of the scene. If you get my meaning.

  • ''Bronson, All His Life Wanted To Be Famous''

  • hey I think this is the Otto Klemperer version

nice and slooooow as always by Otto

  • wagner had lotta friendships with jews. so please, just listen to the music. there is no proof. just because hitler loved his work? nuh...

  • u are so right freind - wagner had nothing to do with hitler - was born way before him!

  • He was extremely anti-semitic and you can see in his libretto that he believes in the Aryan race... look at Siegfried and Mime.

  • It depends. I actually think the Siegfried and Mime = Aryan and Semite to be pushing it slightly. I think it is more about Wagner's relationship with his (step-)father. It must be noted that Wagner was not against Jews as a race per se but as a culture as he claimed that German Jews should abandon Jewish culture and be purely German (which is silly as Christianity (the largest faith in Germany) is as German as Judaism...not very!). The Nazis wouldn't like Jews "integrating" Wagner would.

  • Amazing it could be, Wagner WAS jew, his biologic father was Geisler, a jew.

  • To be Jewish he would have to have a Jewish mother and, in my opinion, accept the Jewish faith himself. I hate that people are born into religion... that doesn't happen with political allegiances. Sorry for the mini rant.

  • to have a Jewish mother means to be Jewish for jewish laws, for biology laws, means be half jewish, the same to have a jewish father !!!!

  • You can't be half jewish... it's not the same as being half Irish or something like that! Do you think someone can be half Anglican or Roman Catholic etc?

  • Be jew is belong to a race, not to a religion. You can be half jew, like I am half italian.

  • Wow I could have sworn Judaism was a religion but thanks for setting me straight on that one!...

  • You are wellcome.

  • I hate ethnic nationalism, whether it's Nazism or Zionism.

  • Me too.

  • You obviously do not know what you are talking about.

  • build a correct commentary.

  • keep your List for yourself and let us appreciate the only one true music!

  • where is Liszt's epic opera cycle???

oh and by the way, Hungary called! They want Liszt back

  • Heda, calm down. And don't talk to idiots ;)

  • Liszt was Wagner's step-father. I'd say it was more likely that Wagner copied him....

  • I find this is one of the more majestic Wagner pieces, best enjoyed at a high volume...my favourite part is right around 1:44, those background horns tend to induce goosebumps

  • to me it is the horns at 6:10 that have for for over 30 years given me goose bumps

  • I believe Wagner's music can bring goose bumps on any human of any age or background.

Anybody denieing it simply refuses to feel, hear and see the greatness (sadness) in it.

  • Agreed.

But I don't feel Sadness with this I feel Triumph, Victory and Glory and a world of other things.

  • I suggest to listen to Wagner's music with text. Otherwise you'll be left with your own stereotypes.

For instance, compare the above with this:

    watch?v=Vgvg8LnVPts

  • This never fails to amaze me. Blows my mind. My favorite is still Von Karajan at the helm, so GERMAN! .....Wagner lives forever. Too bad about the horrible association with the insane NAZI's :--(

  • It's so off, huh. His opinion of the Jews reflected mostly on their religion and culture. He disliked Christianity as well for the same reason. His racist and egotist ways are damaging but I never thought of this guy as a "Nazi". Not so far off (kind of like H.P. Lovecraft) but the music was still amazing. He made his own vibratos too.

  • Баварци су стварно надарени људи. Велика земља Њемачка, нека буде вечна.

  • which album is that? sounds fantastic

  • If when the horns play and birds drop from the sky, then you know it's Wagner!

  • Typical Wagner music. lots of horns.

    good stuff

  • Well no shit, Sherlock.
