as 2 or 3 other folks already posted in here, I had always heard that the song was about Reagan's visit to Ireland in the mid 80's, when he said he was going back to visit his family roots/heritage....
@drunkenlout - Hi. Anduril, Aragorns sword did translate as 'flame of the west' but I dont think that was Stuarts take on this song. Nor can I stress again, is my interpretation correct. This is just a fan video I made using images from Stephen Kings Dark tower books of which there is no relation to the song. I enjoyed interpreting it as such though!
I love thyis song. i was eally upset when BC didn't tour America after this album in'84. nevertheless, a geat song from a great album..Thanks for the post...
great video as always mate, I could see several Deadwood images with some steeltown tracks, did you do "in this place" with pics of Al and Seth and company?
Hi timj41 - I did do 'In this Place' with Deadwood pics - I absolutely love that show and sorry they never truly finished it. However, just having three seasons kept it pure - the writing never dropped off for a second. I miss Al Swearengen!
Thanks Carl. I grew up with the BC anti-facist warning wich this song originally depicted. When i heard this song as a kid I always thought of Hitler and his ilk. While I still think this what the song is about, your vid is shit hot. The apocalyptic/ western stills take the whole thing to a higher level.
I might as well come over to this thread and let my good friend Carl know that Reagan is probably one of my favorite presidents. :-)

This song was always beautiful. With the passage of time, it sounds like a warning we totally missed.

As far as what inspired the song... seems I remember reading about it when it came out that the song was an anti-Ronald Reagan protest.

Carl thx for explaining this song! Never knew it was inspired on a novel by Stephen King.
aarlevanbram 2 years ago
Hey Bramster!
