Ethanol is a disaster in every way. It hurts mileage, and production of it from food crops pushes more acreage under cultivation and requires use of petrochemical based fertilizers. Burning ethanol still releases carbon just as surely as burning gasoline.
I have been driving a 2006 Kia spectra on a 50 percent blend of Ethanol for 50000 miles with no problems at all. now I don't make a lot of money and wouldn't even think of trying that if i thought it would hurt newer cars. I am glad that I tried that, it has cut my weekly fuel expenses enough to make me want to convert my car to run on E85 next year. I think my car is small enough to handle the conversion without to much loss of millage, with the right set up.
