I never thought you could actually murder a guitar until I heard the finale of this performance. Lock up Steve Howe and through away the key. Someone inform Mr. Orville Gibson that the man who brutally and epically murdered his young ES-175 has been identified. Tell him it was a crime of passion, and that his offspring went out in a blaze of glory the likes of which had never been heard of, and may never be heard of again.
I saw Yes 5 times live in the 70s and listening to this it makes me realise why. A friend of mine once said '' There are rock bands, Then there's Yes. says it all in my mind. Yes_cat
The guitar part on this live version (which is the best ever) is very challenging. It just keeps going, almost non-stop. A lot of open strings. This is from a time when Howe was at the peak of his powers, quite a creation indeed. I was expecting it to be featured in his tutorial video, I think he only gave the intro, don't remember. This was the show's opener in '72, it is SO sad there is no video available!
I had a copy of Close to the Edge when I was a kid and when I saw this I wondered how on earth they were gonna pull this off live. All I could say was wow.
Still the best live version of this song out. There are some very melodic newer versions (like Live at Montreux) but they don't have the intensity of this one. A classic.
@rzid Tell me about, when vequez( can't remember his youtube name right ) vids were deleted( either copy right or deleteing his account) it took me a while to find this vid, the other versions are alright, but this version is the reason why this is my favorite yes song, and I love the keyboard rythme in this song.
Thanks for posting; I have this album, too. It's a great version of a classic.

When I'm feeling drained in my soul, and I can't sleep, I put on my headphones at 3 in the morning, and I feel alive again. Thank you Yes.
