Antonov is an Ukrainian company, but they lack the industrial capacity to produce these type of aircraft on their own in that country, and many of antonovs factories and assembly plants are in Nobosibirsk(Russia) and Tashkent(Uzbekistan). So it's incorrect to say this plane is Ukranian, it's more correct to say that it's a soviet aircraft and the company was inherited by the ukraine after the collapse of the soviet union.
it's a Russian designed airplane on an airshow in Ukraine. Does it matter where the airplane happens to be registered at the time of filming (Ukraine?)
@guitarplayerforu the only thing is that boeing 747 is something completely other than this giant and it took much more complex structure plans to design something 2x bigger. The constructers were short of time so they made the easiest design they could and the cockpit one was already designed to the jumbo:D
I saw this in Canada once while I was in a parking lot cold not believe my eyes when it flew over head at under 1000' feet very impressive machine. I would love to fly in the co-pilot seat during a landing.. Awesome Video !!!!
When it can carry that much cargo in one lift, it's worth the fuel. Certainly it could, in the future, be fitted with more efficient engines but as it is, the ones in service seem to be busy.
@EatMyPropwash What, 300 metric tonnes of airplane soaring through the air is ugly? I think it's pretty awesome, personally. If you put down your xenophobia for a minute, you might see that some of the european & former-soviet designed aircraft are actually pretty spectacular.
@PeetPeeet No, that particular plane is fuglier than the craps I take in the morning. I actually prefer to fly a bigger plane compared to a smaller one like a CRJ or EMB-175. That being said... what exactly do you do for a living? I'll bet you're a wanna-be pilot, who can't pass his medical, doesn't fly, works at McDonalds, and sits on YouTube all day touching himself to russian aircrafts. You probably blow a load when you hear the TNT inside the Tupolev TU-154 explode to start the engine.
@EatMyPropwash I'm actually an aircraft hydraulic system design engineer, former aircraft mechanic and private pilot. (third class medical, to be precise) Ironically, one of my projects at work is the Russian Irkut MC-21 airliner :) To me, an aircraft like AN-225, Airbus A380, or even the PZL M-15 Belphegor are all beautiful, not because of what they look like but what they can do! Seems as though you're too preoccupied with your prejudices and immature judgement to appreciate good engineering.
@EatMyPropwash Moreover - I doubt that YOU are actually a pilot, based on your rhetoric I would guess you're an angsty teen vicariously pretending, as your comments are very unbecoming of any sort of professional aviator. Hell, maybe you're a CFI flying C150s, I could be wrong.
Did anyone notice super quick banks and turns this HUGE plane is doing?! THAT to me is amazing. It's also cool when the C5 Galaxies and C-17s do it. BUT this is more amazing... I mean THAT SIZE... WOW.
@JuliusEC145 .... Airplanes are creature with amazing powers of knowing-ness and out-of-this-world understanding. And thus, they understand. They know without having to prove it, unlike us needed-ego-based humans. Airplanes are Whole, Perfect, Strong, Powerful, Loving, and Harmonious ▲
Too bad that this aircraft wasn't able to fulfill another job that it was to do, carry the the Russian space shuttle. Russia cancel their space shuttle program after one test flight that's it. Sad. Oh well, at least it's hualling cargoes around the world. I think this aircraft would be a perfect "companion" for the Boeing LCF.
Cool plane amazing such a large thing could stay in the sky but the Russians or I mean Ukrainians had good engineers and aircraft designers at Antonov.

@guitarplayerforu It also has wings in common with the 747, must be copied from the 747, right?
