I love Moonstruck don't get me wrong, but if Cher won for Moonstruck she should have won for Mask. Her roll in mask is better than some of Meryls rolls and she is such a good cryer!
@imonyt70s oh yea - i think cher is a phenomenal actress. (not a fan of her music, though). this, 'witches of eastwick', 'silkwood', etc. she just has 'something', maybe from her mostly unhappy youth and marraige to sonny. she was so innocent at the time she married that playboy.
anyway, i remember this when i was a kid. after an hour plus of the movie making us fall in love with rocky...i maintained composure at my cousin's, then went home to an empty house....and cried so much.
You can tell by the look in her eyes when she opens the door at :47 that she already knows she's dead, such amazing acting, Cher is an amazing actress and human being.
grateful dead song in background...i havent seen this film in years...when i did see it I thought he died from ...oh its stupid anyway. He died from his disease. My thoughts are stupid, sorry...
also as you watch the scene, you can hear at the beginning "...ripple' whispered.
regardless of the mothers lifestyle, she really was devoted to her son, supported her son, tried to make him have a normal life like everyone else, and ...I forgot. Also in real life, after the film, the man and woman, one reportedly had aids, recently i found out in real life that recently the mother died in a motorcycle crash at age 70 or so. wikipedia.
@youtheee I understand.I had tears in my eyes.It is so sad!and when Cher or Rusty throws all she picks on the wall and breaks everything, and the cupboard it is sad!!!!
She acted the shit out of this scene! Full range of emotion. people just don't act like this!!! I would put her performance in this up there with Sally Field in Steele Magnolias. So many emotions!
The scene at the grave yard is actually 4 years later..in the un-cut version the music by Bruce Springsteen is played here.Born the USA which came out in 1984..
i watched the commentary the other night on the DVD....Pretty amazing on how this movie was made....and the director said Cher listened to some muisc in private to get herself worked up for this scene but she will not admit what she listened too!! Great movie though......Whatta true classic and always will be
I love this movie...Just got it on DVD...Excellent performance by Cher and Eric Stoltz...Cher is so natural for this part...RIP Rocky Dennis...Heaven has another great angel
Cher should have won the Oscar for this instead of "Moonstruck"" (Glenn Close should have won that year for "Fatal Attraction").

There is a road, no simple highway,
Between the dawn and the dark of night,
And if you go no one may follow,
That path is for your steps alone.

Good movie, but I think Cher is getting way too much credit for this scene... It wasn't THAT amazing. (in my opinion, anyways)

There's a deleted scene where Rocky's dead hand comes up from the grave and grabs the dude. Then it just turns out to be a nightmare.

@dunderklumpen1979 Well in reality he died in 78 but they probably couldn't put that in for some legality reasons.
