Wrong rocky, Peter was not a "pope" nor did he reside in Rome. Peter was the Bishop of Antioch and he was not some kind of "supreme pontiff" over all Christians. When Paul and Peter had a disagreement over gentiles, Paul came to Judea (notice he didnt go to Rome), and corrected Peter, the final decision as to the faith and practice of the gentiles came from James. Peter was one of the foremost amongst the Apostles but he was never considered to be the "Vicar of Christ" or a "Supreme Pontiff".

When did Christ ever call him "Supreme Pontiff" (the Roman pagan Pontifex Maximus)??? The two words used for rock are different, there are petras and petros. He was saying that Peter was [small rock] while his previous admission that Christ is God [if you take it in context] is the ROCK on which the Church will be built. So in short, the rock on which the Church will be built is the belief that Christ is LORD.

Peter was simply the Bishop of Antioch, in the earliest times of the Kirk it was the churches in Judea which held the most weight and they were led by JAMES. When Paul rebuked Peter he came to JUDEA and ANTIOCH (not Rome) and rebuked him, the final decision (regarding the practice of the gentiles) was made by JAMES, nowhere in the Bible do we find Peter acting as some sort of "Supreme Papa" over believers. This is a heresy which was brought in by the Roman Empire.

The Bible, in it's current condition, was put together by Catholic bishops in the late 300s. St. Augustine was one of the bishops in attendance. The canon, or list of books was selected based on what the Church was universally reading during the Liturgy, since what is read at Mass ultimately refers to Christ,as the Logos, or Word of God. Since I am gay, and orthodox, I believe that what Jesus stated about prostitutes and tax collectors entering heaven ahead of pharisees is true.

Not all Catholic Priests are celibate. Some marry. Only priests who take the the oath of celibacy remain celibate. The reason why many Catholic priests are is because Jesus was. Priest are people just like us. They live a life of service to you and I. This idea of service and lack of self is something that very few or us layman can master. That is exacly how priests are call to live. The writting of St. Paul concerning celibacy is one of the reason why celibacy became the preferred practice.

This network loves sex scandals and feeds on them. It is high time however that the church deals honestly with gay priests in that they have spent many years doing great service.
Perhaps if these men could live honestly in who they really are it would not be necessary to seek out unhealthy behaviors. A loving and kind relationship might solve most of these problems. There will always be those both straight and gay who cross the line but a healthy environment would make a difference.
