Just finished reading this book, to my embarrassment, I was reduced to tears on a public bus. So beautiful, his descriptions are heartbreakingly unique and honest and stunning and errgh. I want to read it again. And humans haunt me too.
What I found interesting about Markus Zusak's commentary is that he refers to Death (the narrator) as "he" or "him". I also had pictured Death as male --- would be much more difficult for me to imagine the narrator as female. Perhaps it is very sexist of me, but I really think that war and death are more related to males.
i agree to all the comments made here. i´ve just finished the book, and i rememeber when i read the first pages i was about putting it down. but then something kept me on reading and when i came to the last page of this beautiful book i cried and could not stop. what a deep book, what an author. great talent and more. best book since carlos ruis zafon "shadow of the wind" and albert sanchez pinol "la pell freda".
I love him and the wise like he write ist fantastic !!!! Everyone should read the book : The book thief , mine is in german , because i'm from germany , I read the book this time and it's wonderful. You have to feel every letter in this history and the book pulls you with! no author can express myself as his messenger to convince! That's fact!
I KNOW! He's such a great, brilliant writer. I loved I Am the Messenger (I literally just finished it lol!). And when I return it to the library, I'm definitely going to pick up The Book Thief.

Markus Zusak is a mad cunt!!! I loved The Book Thief . One of my all time favourites.

The Book Thief is one of my fav books and i plan to read I am The Messenger (i have a copy, i just havent read it yet).

His book always makes me laugh and cry ..cry for EVER! :D
Seriously, it is my favourite book in the WORLD!

Markus Zusak is an AMAZING author! I love both The Book Thief and I am the Messenger, they are brilliant in their own unique ways!
