  • This is my ultimate song. It serves up my life. Melanie I Love You. Living in the memory, Ive done everything I know, its going to be a long long time xxxxx

  • This is a heart breaking version of this song, Melanie makes it her own, like she does with all the song she covers - it is beautiful and I don't understand some of the nasty comments I am reading here - why be nasty about a beautiful song sung by someone with a beautiful voice? Don't understand.

  • Love you Melanie

  • @gazrobbo53 you suck melanie!

  • To be honest, I have only ever known Linda's version of the song. I have always loved it. Listening to Melanie's just now for the first time, wow, just different enough, but equally as good as Linda's!

  • Awesome.

  • Oh man; this one got me. I'm a mess.

  • Fact, she was Canadian, laid a "think i got cancer trip "on me went home for free health care, umm,I seriously wonder how she can possibly look herself in the mirror!I still would like to talk with her again though,We were once best friends and as far as i'm concerned,i will never understand this nor judge her I just realize that we all make the beds we sleep in,back in May she told me in last conversation she wanted no other man, only reason i found her at a dating site was i googled her, song hurts

  • I can relate to this!I cannot go into detail,my ex may hopefully read this, why do relationships turn south?I found her after being separated for almost 2 yrs on a dating site, the attack on me on her profile really hurt,i was unemployed for a year, she said"must have a job or a pension'LOL!hey while unemployed she borrowed money from a coworker so i could go to New Orleans to find work, their was none due to "illegal immigrants"!Serious!i am skilled at many trades, went thru hell down there

  • Thank you i don't know why it made me weep to sing along - it was so many years ago that song wretched a heartache out of me. Great tune

  • SUPERB

  • Melanie is alive and well! Beautiful version of this song.

  • was she the first to sing this song? what year did she die? what was her most famous top 40 hit?

  • @The096757 Melanie performed at Woodstock in 1969. Her most famous hits are "Brand New Key" and "Beautiful People". Most people know Brand New Key from the movie Boogie Nights as the theme song for Roller Girl (Heather Graham). It's a cute little song :-)

  • @ambrakay Oh, and Linda Ronstadt was the first to sing this

  • For my money this is vastly superior to the Ronstadt version.

  • @Babyhowdy233 It's DEFINITELY not bad considering Melanie's voice was in peak performance at Woodstock in 1969 and Linda Ronstadt's was in peak performance when she originally did this song in the 80's. I prefer Ronstadt's version but I am a HUGE fan of Melanie's original work :-) ("I've got a brand new pair of roller skates, you've got a brand new key...)

  • @ambrakay '

linda ronstat DID NOT redo this song in the 1980s but the early 1970s. please do not make up facts when some of us have lived through certain decades and know better.

linda redid some 60s songs on her Spring 1980 album Mad Love like "hurts So Bad" which was really good.

  • @The096757 You are VERY much correct. As I stated, Linda Ronstadt did no redo this song. I'm sorry my comment seemed to offend you so much. I was answering a question about the artist Melanie. I was born in 1981 and remember my mom playing this song by Linda Ronstadt over and over and over growing up and I thought the album comtaining it came out in 1980. I was incorrect about that. Again, I'm sorry you were so obviously very offended by my comment. It's YouTube. It's music.

  • @ambrakay It is all for fun and entertainment. I again admit that I was incorrect. I did not mean to offend anyone by what I thought was correct. I was not alive in the 70's when Linda Ronstadt released this song. Nor was I alive when Melanie performed this song (at least, not that I know of.) Brain surgery will teach you not to take little things like YouTube so seriously and to talk mean to people :-) I wish you all the best :-)

  • @ambrakay

when you mentioned some idiotic movie like boogie nights you made yourself look like a flake. youtube or amazon is the place to go to find out about music not movies produced by weirdo in hollywood. i never saw boogie nights but it had to be really stupid to play this song when the movie was about the late '70s

  • @The096757 I mentioned Boogie Nights & Roller Girl because when I sing "Brand New Key" at karaoke (which I do often - I call it my karaoke therapy :-) I always hear a lot of "oh, this is the roller girl song!" comments. "Brand New Key" is another one of those songs my mom loved and I grew up hearing :-) Again, all the best to you.

Also, I have watched Boogie Nights several times. Great movie. Suppose that's why it won so many awards. And was given a four star rating :-)

  • @The096757 I also love the movie Fight Club. And Goodfellas. And Thank You for Smoking. And The Last Unicorn. And North by Northwest. And Memento. Wow, look at all these movie references I just made on YouTube...I must be looking flakier with each letter I type! :-D I hope you ENJOY your day and find humor in it and in all that you do in your life :-) Best to you in all that you do :-)

  • How is it possible that there are 5 deaf-mutes not able to hear perfection on the same song?

  • @johnrkoch On You Tube you can easily find deaf-mutes trashing everyone from Connie Francis to Sara Brightman and many in between.

  • @johnrkoch Not deaf mutes, but rather golden eared fans of true talent such as Linda Ronstadt.

  • "Lovers may die or disappear, but lover survives the loss." Ian Walker, Zoo Station

  • Love you Melanie xx

  • Need sum bass, otherwise great!

  • I LUV MELANIE - THIS IS SUCH A TRUE SONG - SAD BUT TRUE AND ONLY MELANIE CAN CAPTURE ITS TRUE MEANING

  • Quelle voix... mélancolie, spleen, un brin de tristesse...

Cause I've done everything I know

To try and change your mind

AndI think I'm gonna miss you

    For a long, long time

  • Like I said - idiots.

  • @onebrandofdemocracy What a shame that some people (onebrand, for instance) have no soul , and can't hear worth a chit either. Whatta ya gonna do? We're surrounded by idiots.

  • @HalfFastChevy

I hear your master calling you. Time to get back to the fields and put in your time for those who think for you.

  • @onebrandofdemocracy Aha ! You call her talentless so you must have a benchmark to compare her with. Now we're getting somewhere .You do listen to music rather than just the sound of your own voice.

  • @motorwaydrifter

Oh not at all. I stand by my assertion that music is for the underdeveloped mind. I frequently scan these videos to see just how serious the problem of mental "midgetism" (my word) truly is. I am alarmed. Music is a form of hypnosis...leading to brainwashing. It is employed often in the context of religion (e.g. church congregation) to pacify the masses and "soften" them up for the coming sermon on how to think and live their lives. Hitler would be very, very proud.

  • @onebrandofdemocracy Nice try. midgetism is in both English (our language, from England ) and websters dictionary. I thought you were well read. I agree about Candles in the rain . Awesomw song from a time when we knew how to enjoy things for their own sake and not have to analize evetything.

  • @motorwaydrifter sadly my friend.. it is you that were hypnotized, to a calm mediocrity, unable to see the forest through the bush.. tempered and insensitive to the things you would have once deeply appreciated and enjoyed. It is all still there for you to inhale, embrace and enjoy. Music is not bitterand holds no antimosity. BTW being well read is... exactly that! To be well read and able to maintain one's own individuality and expression, is zen in a way, a balance of knowledge and wisdom...

  • @isoceles1 for without wisdom... one is simply... "well read". Road scholars and students of life write the music... there for all to gain something. The well read man knows only what the practitioner has recorded.

The highway man has caught, killed and cooked the rabbit. the schooled man will either ask the highwayman for food... or try to put what he has read into practice. My guess is he'll waste all his water washing the mud off his shoes. Colorado boy myself. listen to the music..peace

  • @onebrandofdemocracy (\\ : = )

  • What a shame that so few hear her. An awesome song that I cannot listen to enough. Love you Melanie. Since 1974. A big part of my life. xx

  • I always knew she was a truly great singer - but this is on a higher plane altogether.

    Wonderful.

  • I agree. I love Linda. Her voice is incredibly strong. However,

Melanie just has a certain way of giving a song its essence.

I have listened to Unchained Melody over and over again.HOPING

that singers reach the high notes of those infamous lyrics. Don't have to do that with Melanie singing it. It was never her goal... nor ours. She just sings the song and I heard it for the first time.

Melanie told me the story and I knew what the song was saying.

For the first time. THAT'S talent.

  • The most unbelivably awesome version of this beautiful song I have ever heard. You can feel the pain down to your toes. This is what blues is all about. If you don't feel this, you are obviously dead.

  • @HalfFastChevy This and Ronstadt's is very good, but there was a male version I heard years ago by a guy with the last name of White, and I've not been able to find it - Coming from a gravelly male voice - you know, masculine but vulnerable - was quite effective. If you find it, send my way.

  • Meeting Melanie was a bright spot in my ill spent youth. After that I was rather infatuated with her. Of course I was always infatuated with her voice. Love the woman and her music. Would that I knew then what I know now.

  • I was a young man when I used to love this woman's music. I left all of my albums by her at the home of a former girlfriend and have thought of her many times since those days, in 1975. I am so moved by her music today, with the added dimension I didn't have before, age and experience. I feel as though I have come full circle. I am ready to go now.

  • I love Melanies music ,she is my favorite since 1971...love her voice..<3

  • Beautiful rendition of a beautiful song. I recently heard Melanie singing the Long and Winding Road. Melanie really gives of her soul when she sings, thank you for putting this up to hear.

  • Thank you, Melanie.

  • I've been in love with her since I was 14 and I'am 54 now but i still cry when I see her face and hear her voice. Peace and Love ,Sex and Drugs, Gar......................

  • god..... she still is a smile in this world

  • Beautiful melanie. As Always

  • Been a fan since 1969 when I was 12yrs old am totally in love.Endless sound that moves the heart!!!

  • I love Linda's powerful voice, but she is not remotely as gifted an interpreter as Melanie or Dolly or Tracy Nelson.

  • I love Melanie's voice. When I was a teenager, my brother let me borrow a record single of Candles in the Rain. That song changed my life, as far as music goes. I love the rawness of her voice. I just uploaded myself singing this more Linda's style, but that's more my personal singing style anyway. I never knew Melanie recorded it too. I might have learned it this way had I known, lol.

  • Ellegant!!!

  • @old81bmw ~If this does not just make you wanna cry with it's beauty~You ain't right !

  • Love you Melanie. Thank you.

  • I remember in 82, I was 18 and going thru a divorce (phuck me) and my bru gave me a cassete of Melanie, rather than make me commit suicide (which I think my bru wanted me to do ) she motivated me to climb out the hole I was in, She is awesome.

  • Awesome story, Johnny65. Melanie has a way of changing moods and lives.

  • Love this woman then and now!

  • this song always makes me want to cry (in a good way) it's so meaningful and magical in its meaningful way (wow, hows that for grammar)

  • They say you shuold make a list of things to do before you die. At the top of my list is to see Melanie sing this song live. FANTASTIC song. Peace. xx

  • What a beautiful song! It's amazing! Could you please tell me what year was this song? Thank you.

  • >>gselsman. I think this version is on the 1993 'Silver Anniversary' CD. However, there is a different version on the 'Ring The Living Bell' double CD which runs to about 8.5mins, a recording of a rehearsal quite good too!

  • Melanie,

I have and will always love your voice, lyrics, and songs. I'm gonna luv you for a long, long time.

  • Unbelievably beautiful and almost unbearably poignant! Melanie is one of the great song stylists with an incomparable voice. Her contribution to the music scene over the past forty years is a treasure-trove of originality, honesty and truth. Her own compositions are superb but her covers of other people's songs are matchless. I first heard this song sung by Linda Ronstadt and it was very moving but Melanie's version is the definitive one.

  • Comment removed

  • @wmackview Completely agree! I am a fan of both singers but Melanie wins it with this song by a mile!

  • @wmackview I'm not sure, but did Dolly Pardon ever sing this song? There are no word's for this beautiful girl, Her memory will live on for a very very long time :-)

  • Ein großartiger Titel und eine

    wunderbare Stimme!!! Danke für

    das Video.

  • What a great song and done by such the most magical singer alive Melanie!!!

Beautiful People.. Please remember to sign the Petition to induct Melanie into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!! Please visit Flower Power Lives! on my space!
