  • MAGNIFIQUE!!!!!

  • Her technique is AWESOME but this piece is not for her voice!

  • from 4:32, the old man sitting there idly makes me laugh

  • wow..... just.... wow

  • She simply has no peer.

  • La mejor representante del Belcanto...

    ¡ wow !

Gruberova habrá cantado alguna vez en el "met"?

  • Gruberova is simply splendid here! Thanks for posting this fab video. Brava Edita!

  • This lady does no wrong to me!

  • Is the last corona a tick lower or its just the recording, or my headphones?

  • She is to sing Zerbinetta in 2008! Her 40th year of professional singing! There is a wonderful spectral analysis of Gruberova's voice in the Mad Scene from Lucia (I believe) which compares her voice/partials to other sopranos - quite interesting!

  • Opera debut as Rosina in the barber of Seville in 1968..Met debut 1977

  • Golden. Brava L'Unica!!!!!!!! I bow at your feet.

  • Tremendous! Are you sure it is 1990? She would be 44. But she looks younger than that.

  • I'm just going by what the video had on it. It's from a program called "Profile" which I believe airs (or aired) on Austrian television. I believe she's only sung 3 Semiramides 90,92,01.

  • Actually, singers of this kind are so rare. I like her very much in this perf. She is one of the big ones, this is it!

  • Les manches bouffantes sont atroces.

  • I find her a truly exceptional talent; at times it seems like if she got the best of Sutherland(speed and high notes) and mixed with the best of Caballe( legato and pianissimi)

  • I completely agree with you on that.

  • Yes she's amazing, great respect!

  • Oh my can somebody tell me how she does those rapid-as-machine-guns kind of runs. She greatly rivals the flute with her accurate roulades and scales. What a coloratura

  • Hmmm. Did not enjoy her ornamentations and wild scoops at high notes... Lots of steel to the voice at this early career point... All in all unpleasant... but hey I'm not the one getting out there to sing it; so Brava to her.

  • This would not be early in her career. Maybe somewhere around mid career but I think she started singing professionally in at least the very early 80's if not in the 70's

  • She had her big success in 1976 at the Salzburg Festival, and had been a member of the wiener Staatsoper for some years, and had previously made her debut in Bratislava.. She can't have started singing professionally in the early 80's.

  • No, she actually debuted in 1968! The 'steel' in the voice aids in projection - her voice fills opera houses of all sizes.

  • I've never found her ideal in Italian bel canto though she has given many impressive performances. I think Mozart and German opera is where she is sublime.

  • Usually a cold singer but in here she is a true belcantist!!

  • A great performance! The ornamentations were a real treat. A pity that during the video transfer (from what little I know about such things) the audio "bumps" at times that break Gruberova's incredible melodic line!
