great documentary. one of the best retrospective one's on dilla I've seen, a real insight into the genius of him and madlib from those that knew, very inspirational.

i was feeling the same in 2000 to move to L.A. and stay 8years to learn english cause im from Paris and to learn music and that affect me a lot cause then i become an american MC with my french MC back ground, then i came back to Paris to collect my thaught and to make in practice what i had learn.you can hear few songs on myspace/nexmoonfr
It's branding! That Stussy log o never leaves the screen! Ever seen a real doc with a designer logo in corner through the whole thing! Some good info, but not a Doc by passionate documentary makers. Slanted.
i love dilla and all but this documentary is BORING AS SHIT! i mean who the fuck are these white ppl. i wanna hear ppl that dilla worked with like common, slum village, madlib and all. wtf disappointed at this documentary
yea i didnt say you were a racist i get what your saying, that they need to look at the bigger picture and talk to cats that actually knew him deeply as good friends and in the studio like q-tip and busta
@namkooc yeah thats what im tryna say! but i just copped the stussy shirt and its DOPE! but yeah i love j dilla tho and WHITE ppl. but this documentary IMO is not all that great. its great info for ppl that dont know who the fuck he is.but they could of done this doc waaayy better with ppl that really knew who he was and who are good friends and also showed him in the studio or show some of his best beats.
Big ups to the cats at Stussy, and those reppin Stones Throw. Beautifully edited with strong words.
When I first heard Dave New York talkin about Dilla in the early interviews, it made me wanna cry, that shit broke my heart, and if Dilla was seeing this right now, he'd be so happy about it.
Every kind hearted, gifted artists, will always feel unappreciated because they don't feel as though they deserve it.
2 I can see where he was coming from, minus the musical genius. I do think that this doc. would have been closure for him. I'm glad that all the cats that respect him and his work have him living on inside them, through their words, their music, and their thoughts. I will forever appreciate what James did for me, and wish that I could have had the opportunity to meet him. Like B+ said, that James {as well as Otis} had a way of portraying and expressing his emotions.
He was true to hip hop, seeing as he was able to use hip hop and music as a whole, as a positive vehicle for change, as well as defining what was normally undefinable. It it such a beautiful thing when seen through an example such as this.
I hope to see Otis in the next part, but I understand if he preferred not to.
LOL @ 4:35-5:11 sooo trruuee! i heard in a interview with ?ueslove that dilla's personality is exactly like that. and madlib is soo humble just like dilla.
thats exactly what it is. he was close friends with dilla and when he heard about his illness madlib was emotionally upset. like it heart him too see dilla in the state he was in.
while i respect the people that made these videos for making them, i kind of feel like they're a bit lazy in not really showing such a huge part of dilla's life, really the part that made him the renowned producer he is. like i'm a stones throw fanatic, but comeon you'd think dilla was only know for everything he did after 2003. why not talk to people like common, questlove, tip, show the huge part of his life as jay dee. so yea, i'd love to see a doc that really pays tribute to the mans career
If anything it would be best to get a hold of Amp Fiddler,Que D,and Slum Village if you want to hear something deeper and close to home when it comes to J-Dilla because those were the cats he stemmed a little bit more closer to and they could tell you something more epic and real in a documentary since they really knew him.
the idea of the doc was to show the last part of Dilla's musical career, specifically how moving to Los Angeles effected his music. Originally it was suppose to be a simple five minute piece, but once we started interviewing everyone it was clear it needed to be longer. this was never suppose to be a full on documentary on Dilla's life. there were a bunch of people, who I would've loved to interview, but they didn't respond to our interview requests.
What about JAYLIB 2? I know Madlib mentioned it in a 2004 or '05 Stones Throw Interview? Surely some beats between Lib and Jay had to be produced before Dilla died.
lol maybe, good pointer, but you also gotta remember thats before dilla pasted. i'm pretty sure they were gonna do another. but some of the concept of jaylib was dilla rhymin' over mad beats and mad rhymin over dilla beats.. ya know.
