  • It's branding! That Stussy log o never leaves the screen! Ever seen a real doc with a designer logo in corner through the whole thing! Some good info, but not a Doc by passionate documentary makers. Slanted.

  • oh my bad lol im not racist...i was jus sayin

  • yea i didnt say you were a racist i get what your saying, that they need to look at the bigger picture and talk to cats that actually knew him deeply as good friends and in the studio like q-tip and busta

    peace

  • @namkooc yeah thats what im tryna say! but i just copped the stussy shirt and its DOPE! but yeah i love j dilla tho and WHITE ppl. but this documentary IMO is not all that great. its great info for ppl that dont know who the fuck he is.but they could of done this doc waaayy better with ppl that really knew who he was and who are good friends and also showed him in the studio or show some of his best beats.

  • Shits eerie in a way.

    RIP.

  • Rip

    D':

man. i wish i knew him. i mean i would have been like 8 or sumthin... but. dang.

  • Big ups to the cats at Stussy, and those reppin Stones Throw. Beautifully edited with strong words.

When I first heard Dave New York talkin about Dilla in the early interviews, it made me wanna cry, that shit broke my heart, and if Dilla was seeing this right now, he'd be so happy about it.

Every kind hearted, gifted artists, will always feel unappreciated because they don't feel as though they deserve it.

  • 2 I can see where he was coming from, minus the musical genius. I do think that this doc. would have been closure for him. I'm glad that all the cats that respect him and his work have him living on inside them, through their words, their music, and their thoughts. I will forever appreciate what James did for me, and wish that I could have had the opportunity to meet him. Like B+ said, that James {as well as Otis} had a way of portraying and expressing his emotions.

  • 3

He was true to hip hop, seeing as he was able to use hip hop and music as a whole, as a positive vehicle for change, as well as defining what was normally undefinable. It it such a beautiful thing when seen through an example such as this.

I hope to see Otis in the next part, but I understand if he preferred not to.

You were always appreciated and uncorrupted.

Maybe in another life, we will have our time.

    Peace and Love Jay Dee.

  • Where's 3?

  • i love listening to ppl talking about dilla, thx for this doc. !

  • I need part 3!!!!!!

  • part 3 is on vimeo.

  • Great Documentary.

But why wasn't Madlib featured on this?

  • there is nothing like this

  • part 3?

  • ahhhh cool, cant wait

  • wheres part 3?

  • We're still editing part 3.

    Stay tuned.

  • yo wheres part 3

    this is excellent

  • LOL @ 4:35-5:11 sooo trruuee! i heard in a interview with ?ueslove that dilla's personality is exactly like that. and madlib is soo humble just like dilla.

  • God bless garth trinidad and chocolate city for introducing me to Dilla. What happened to "the wake up" show L.A?

  • I have no complaints this was well filmed. Thank you for the info.

  • diggin the lil intro

  • Comment removed

  • Dilla: Yeaahhh Madlib: Whoeehh

    hahahahaha

  • DILLA CHANGED MY LIFE

    MUCH LV

  • Cologne Is in love with J Dilla and Stone-Throw

  • the only thing that bothers me is that you never get to hear Madlib talk about Dilla..maybe it's to emotional

    I can understand that

any who..lovely vids..I can't get enough of Dilla

  • thats exactly what it is. he was close friends with dilla and when he heard about his illness madlib was emotionally upset. like it heart him too see dilla in the state he was in.

  • while i respect the people that made these videos for making them, i kind of feel like they're a bit lazy in not really showing such a huge part of dilla's life, really the part that made him the renowned producer he is. like i'm a stones throw fanatic, but comeon you'd think dilla was only know for everything he did after 2003. why not talk to people like common, questlove, tip, show the huge part of his life as jay dee. so yea, i'd love to see a doc that really pays tribute to the mans career

  • @cheesewithcrackers

Yea..they maybe should have stressed that it was only about his stones throw venture and mostly about his left leg of life..but that

    shouldn't dog it down..

and plus it'd be crazy to get a hold of people like common or tip for interviews etc.

  • If anything it would be best to get a hold of Amp Fiddler,Que D,and Slum Village if you want to hear something deeper and close to home when it comes to J-Dilla because those were the cats he stemmed a little bit more closer to and they could tell you something more epic and real in a documentary since they really knew him.

  • the idea of the doc was to show the last part of Dilla's musical career, specifically how moving to Los Angeles effected his music. Originally it was suppose to be a simple five minute piece, but once we started interviewing everyone it was clear it needed to be longer. this was never suppose to be a full on documentary on Dilla's life. there were a bunch of people, who I would've loved to interview, but they didn't respond to our interview requests.

  • What about JAYLIB 2? I know Madlib mentioned it in a 2004 or '05 Stones Throw Interview? Surely some beats between Lib and Jay had to be produced before Dilla died.

  • lol maybe, good pointer, but you also gotta remember thats before dilla pasted. i'm pretty sure they were gonna do another. but some of the concept of jaylib was dilla rhymin' over mad beats and mad rhymin over dilla beats.. ya know.

  • @sample208 hey bro, your cinemetography is gorgeous, did you shoot and edit it too?

  • @sample208 this needs to be expanded into a full HBO special. Go interview everybody, show home videos, show the videos, show slum village, interview Keith Murray, Erick Sermon, Madskillz, Pharcyde etc.

  • @drumatic And madlib

  • @cheesewithcrackers

yeah i feel the same way because when ever you try to research his career it is 03 to to the present

  • @cheesewithcrackers

yeah, this Documentary is talking too much about the Jaylib era and after, not so much the early 90's. I guess it's because Jay didn't get too much exposure until Jaylib existed, which heightened his career. I would have to say, 2004 was his peak year. Coming off from tours, more Production, and Dil was healthy. 2005 was when everything hit rock bottom.

  • @cheesewithcrackers the description say dilla's life in los angeles

  • @cheesewithcrackers my point exactly! Already when i saw the length on this one i knew imediatly it couln't cover it all! And i'm only about 10 min into it! let me know if they ever did it or gonna do it! 1 love from DK!

  • Over 5000 views first day! Thats Dilla love!!! "Straight loops and breaks"

  • Dope man. Props.

  • midwest to LA connection

  • RIP DILLA. Thx Stüssy.

It's nice that there is negative comments and/or flaming on almost all flicks on yt, but not here. that's the dilla vibe ;)

  • Just think,if he was still here,he would`ve changed the game again! R.I.P. J Dilla

  • Lawl where did you hear that? oh yea from the first video..

  • When you're that talented you get lonely cause nobody can relate...

    that's crazy haha

  • thanks m8!!! looking frwd for part 3!!!

  • when u hear a dilla beat, where u know the sample u just listen like how the fuk did he flip it like that.... dave cooly gives a good inside to dillas mind before he made a beat in a way producers can understand...but the guys just a fukin LEGEND...RIP DILLA

  • Yeah that sound change from 2002 to 2003 was huge. I guess it makes sense now.

  • poppin!!!

  • THANK YOU JAY DEE!

  • Part 3: 2/24
