Yeah, I know, they annoy me abit too, they need to remove the feckin silencers off em. The U.S V16 version of the 710 lump is also prety awsome but our 66's are luke warm in comparrison, pluss they look like shite lol. Its a real shame we ended up with a rush job loco built to a price instead of a standard but they got us out of a hole I spose.

Thing is though, sound is very subjective. I used to be in the EE is best camp for the most part of my 43 years but since its all been scrapped, I looked elswhere and discovered that theres some EMD stuff thats prety dam good sounding. Type in Soldier Summit Grade 36'000 horsepower" it may change your point of view!

EMD....just like their smaller " cousins " from GM,,,,,are series rated by the amount of cubic inches per cylinder...

ie: an EMD 710 series prime mover =

710 ci per cylinder. So, a 12-710 will total 8,520 ci or a 16-710 will total 11,360 ci. or a 20-710 totals 14,200 ci.
