  • (fires up) 66154 at your service!

  • 0:07 sounds like a washing machine!

  • You sad people

  • @DG6985 Ok then, tell us what you do in life?

  • phat bassline

  • i want this as my ring tone on my phone!!

  • That's what I like.

  • YING YING!

  • What a "BEAST"!!

  • *turns up volume*

  • awesome noise

  • Wonderful my friend,

    Luiz

  • sounds like me when i wake up

  • ooo...sounds sexy

  • NOISE!!

  • Sounds the same as the class 201 in ireland and they are a train with great nosie

  • youtube.com/watch?v=fozIDWTxYrA my latest video, i'd say its worth a watch

  • I dont care what they say... I love this class. It saved British rail freight.

  • Sounds VERY realistic t'me. Just like the Phoenix sound system in the model belonging to a pal of mine... :=)

    tac

    Ottawa Valley GRS

  • The sound of a lot of power...

  • GOD SOUND

  • nice

  • these make much more noise when hauling trains. youll be amazed at the noise a freightliner 66 was making the other week on my local line with a coal train going towards shrewsbury from newport i believe

  • What year were these trains manufactured and what is the top speed?.

  • Fantastic enginesound.

  • sounds just like an EMD.

  • @jerry91a because it IS one; it's just an SD70 modded for Europe.

  • Chuck Norris makes this sound when he sleeps.

  • I'm getting tried of those "green fags" that come here and else where just to bitch and moan about theses trains cause it ain't CLEAN enough for them. This is a big fuck you to all those hybrid humping, engine performance stealin', wind worshiping, engine sound gaying, biodegradable nerd bastards. post this on all videos showing REAL locomotives.

  • @ASS3464 completely agree, these green peace goats would soon complain if there were no loco's to pull freight etc, such hipocritical tosspots cus they all drive round in a prius or electric car (which still isnt green when you think of it) don't they lol

  • @50050 Freightliner locos are green! Saying something' s green means jack s**t.

  • @50050 ha a fuking preus it looks like its been bummed by a hummer or sumert :p lol

  • @50050 I agree, if there wasn't any loco's there would be less food, clothes etc. in certain areas.

  • @50050 agreed. it's not like the 'green' thing is something we shouldn't think about.... but i'd rather not drive ANY car and have these locos around...

  • @ASS3464 This is the best comment I've seen for a long time ;)

    Totally agree!!!

  • hi anyone know what size engine class 66 has i know what bhp etc just wondered about the litre ??

  • @MrLuke6593 its a EMD 710 V12 got 710 cubic inches ( 11.6 litres ) per cylinder sooo its 139 litre V12 3300BHP 3000BHP at the rail hope this helps :)

  • @MrLuke6593 yes very thanks

  • He used the kick start.

  • sounds great, it look good when i get the model of it, nice next to a Class 37, the real beast.

  • Best loco. This started my train hobby. But I think 37s are the real beasts... Saw one today come under a bridge in my local area and hellfire it was!

  • sounds similar to the start-up on a Leopard 2 A6 Main Battle Tank!

    great sound...

  • give me a 40 anyday.

  • Beast!! :D

  • best start up sound

  • Best diesel sound ever!

  • Briliant, nice and noisy.

  • just listen to that power! speaker surround and subwoofer turned right up! class 66 may lack character but a great powerful loco nonetheless.

  • This loco has normal starter motors by the sound of it instead of a generator starter.

  • @RODALCO2007 Sounds allot like an EMD 2-stroke diesel, probably an EMD 645.

  • @greywolf45 I think you will find it is an EMD 12/710.

  • start up sounds like a fookin air raid siren

  • nice sound

  • but there not in north america there here with minimum maintenance as far as i can see but there new so they dont need maintenance obviously alright 20 years max i was wrong but never 30 to 40 take them to north america please i would have said to give me a good nights sleep but i wont because there so quiet

  • 710 Two stroke, doesnt beat an english electric twin turbo four stroke.

  • theres no way that thing will manage 30to 40 years in use another 15 yrs max being realistic will they be missed yes they will but only because there replacement will be worse than what they are

  • Mechanically similar EMD Locomotives in North America routinely remain in service for 30 to 40 years, in many cases still working for their original owners.

  • Wonderful sound!

  • Yinging away nicely - It was very strsnge to be in Canada and hear the locos on the "Canadian" sound virtualy the same!!

ying, ying, ying ad nauseum. (sorry that I don't know what model the Canadian locos are - I'm not that well up on the North American stuff)

  • To thebrett56

The buzzer is simply to warn anyone in the area its about to start up, especially fitters etc who may be in the engine room or underneath. Nothing more than that my freind

  • whqat is the buzzer for

  • Absolutely beautiful locomotive. Don't care what anyone says, the 66 is a new classic and people will miss it in 30./40 years time when it's gone and replaced with something else.

  • thanks formidable38 i agree with u to a point yeah superb footage i watched it twice but its not the wcml and i live next to it and 66s annoy me for alot of reasons but fair comment

  • Yeah, I know, they annoy me abit too, they need to remove the feckin silencers off em. The U.S V16 version of the 710 lump is also prety awsome but our 66's are luke warm in comparrison, pluss they look like shite lol. Its a real shame we ended up with a rush job loco built to a price instead of a standard but they got us out of a hole I spose.

  • BEAST

  • gosh iv'e never herd such a meaner diesel engine in my life this has to be at least a 3,000 HP V12 or V16 engine we have a GP12 shunter that has a massive 45 liter V16 but sounds pitiful when compared to this class 66's diesel. damn it sounds like a marine diesel at max power! more power to her captain!

  • you kidding this sounds like a ship's diesel at max power

  • I only have one problem with modern locomotives....there just ins't enough noise!

  • @Kareldekorte what is the buzzer for

  • @TheBrett56 Warning signal to warn driver or others for moving parts and noise int the engine room. In fact it says; get the hell outta here!

  • @Kareldekorte seeing an ews one in real life, iam sure the 66 have enugh!

  • my washing machine sounds better

  • Thing is though, sound is very subjective. I used to be in the EE is best camp for the most part of my 43 years but since its all been scrapped, I looked elswhere and discovered that theres some EMD stuff thats prety dam good sounding. Type in Soldier Summit Grade 36'000 horsepower" it may change your point of view!

  • Is that an EMD 710 in there?

  • Just looked on Wiki, yes it is a 710, in fact the whole loco was built by EMD in Canada. Look up class 66 on google for the full story

  • Thanks. I think it's the Class 59's that are also EMD's.

  • Starts great! But its not the same as the EE Class 37's!

  • Class 66s are one of the best locos for starting up! They are never silent, even when idle, they make a clicking sound when idle.

  • " SHES ALIVEE"!!! Muhahahaha :)

  • YOU DIDNT SAY THAT WHEN I WAS BORN!!!! i fell ashamed of you :(

  • wow the class 66 is a fantastic loco

  • Sweet music ! Love it !

  • Monster comes to life

  • all the coal train drivers in aus are were ear pugs

  • some of the drivers here do aswell, some of our locos have deafened drivers they are so loud!

  • Seems funny that with modern technology the Drivers moan more about these modern Locomotives than their older counterparts, surely these newer Locos are more comfy and qwieter to drive?

  • yes and no the yes being that they have had new seats put in the cab just like the ones u would fined on a bus and no cos there is no skill no fun 2 driving any more and at idle the engine makes a constant beeping sound

  • No. The 66's will see drivers go deaf.

    2 x 37's in multi were quieter.

  • oh that sad groan

  • is this a regular

  • awesome start up sounds.!!

  • フライングスコッツマン

  • you want to try working on them noisy cab they shake you like a rag doll and they are as slippy as fuck

  • I can vouch for that. The drone and resonance in the cab feels abit like car sickness. Couple of hours of it and you'l feel like shit!

  • Ahh, the sweet sounds of an EMD. Even under a British carboy, I recognize that sound!

  • What a power. I like trains.

  • I use this as my ringtone on my phone well funny when your sitting on a quiet train with lots of other people and you start to hear a class 66 start up lol

  • nice noise!

  • fav 5

  • starts like a car ... without any magic

  • Class 37 start up is my favourite!

  • no it doesn't!

  • cooolllll!!!!

  • whats th engine size?

  • I know its output is 3300bhp, couldn't tell you how many lites though

  • 710 Engine, I believe if they still do it the way they used to its a 71.0 Cu. In. bore or something like that.

  • EMD....just like their smaller " cousins " from GM,,,,,are series rated by the amount of cubic inches per cylinder...

ie: an EMD 710 series prime mover =

    710 ci per cylinder. So, a 12-710 will total 8,520 ci or a 16-710 will total 11,360 ci. or a 20-710 totals 14,200 ci.

  • Its a V12 and 710 cubic inch per cylinder if its any help. Roughly about 11.6 litre per cylinder.

  • ahhh.......love the sound of the 12 cylinder 710 engine.

  • Nice nice nice nice nice nice nice!!!! Awesome Class 66! 5*****+ favorite

  • Sorry, of course i meant thumbs up!!

  • i know times move on....... but i sure miss the 47's and 55's etc that I used to spot as a novice spotter in the late 70's

  • nice sound

  • Awesome awesome video.

  • Nice engine. Really like the 66 and 67. They're what modern railways need to be all about.

  • Driver would have failed an assesment.

    No emergency plunger check.

    No D.S.D check.

    No sanders check.

    No Braking system check.

    Dear dear dear.....

Class 66's are only good for power.

Give me 2x 37's in multi anytime.

  • Silly me,

    Missed out a horn check.

    Window wipers check.

    Both cabs.

  • So how do you know that these procedures weren't done prior to recording?

  • Because loco needs to be running and full of air.

No air sounds, no horn etc etc etc.

Loco pulls away too quickly after starting, no prep, unless it has been very cleverly edited.

  • Ignorance in the part of engineer does not help the unit., This is the main reason the class 37 and all other locomotives does not last long. and full of engine troubles.

  • Umm, forgive me, but the class 37's were built in the early 1960's. So the youngest one is now about 45 years old. How is this not lasting long? I'd say it was very good indeed!

  • @TheWakieKid you know it...LOL

  • @TheWakieKid you sound well gay acting like you know it all

  • @infernodood3 Only gay guys watch rail vids.

  • @Twodeez well you have just been incredibly hippocritical by clicking on a rail video to reply to my comment because you would obviously have been watching a rail video yourself.

  • @Twodeez then obviously youre gay yourself

  • @TheWakieKid well if his a driver he most proberly knows more than you :)

  • @lukeboi95 I'm a driver, and a driver instructor. I know more than most about 66's, and how they should be prepared for action.

  • 710 series engine

  • why? ying ying ying...

  • you mean the alarm, or the turbo?

  • Cool !

  • the sound likes the EMD

  • Thats because it is an EMD engine. These were built as export engines beginning in 1998, and they're still in service 10 years later.

  • Is this one a 2-Stroke?

  • Yeh, almost all GM produce is 'Two Stroke'

  • Comment removed

  • Then why would you watch a video about them?

  • Comment removed

  • Actually your sister isn't the only one to hate the Class 66. A lot of drivers find them too noisy.

  • hrm.. ok but u CANNOT beat the cl37 with all teh smoke and noise

  • im gonna download this and covert it to a wav file then make it my windows start up sound

  • Good idea! That's genius!

  • how do you make it a windows startup sound? please tell me

  • download the video then use a converter program to convert it to .wav then go to control panel sound and hardware then go into the change systeme sound then change the start up audio to the converted 66 start up!

  • hey do you know anything that is free and converts to wav? or that you could send me a registered one?

  • google tubefish and it tells ya from there!

  • it dosent convert to wav file :(

  • DRAT! The 56097 video was removed!! I loved listening to its rough start! xD

  • very good!!!

  • what can i say i love all my 66s i remember when 154 hit the floor at npt a star in the making

  • how could it hit the floor and get damaged if it

    is still around today

  • He means when it came of the ship in the docks.

  • nice sound

  • Nice video. I work 30 feet away from the settle-carlisle line and see these hauling coal everyday, they always make me spin around to look!

  • 50050 nice video.

  • I will make it clear to anyone who takes a video of mine WITHOUT PERMISSION like supersprinter156

I will have them done for copy right!!!!

I have no objections to people asking me to have it for their personal use!!!

  • 50050 Class66EWS has nicked one of your vids

  • wa wa

  • o aye eh i will get u done for copyright

  • oh yeah this my vid now its on my area !!!

  • oh yeag this my vid now its on my area !!!

  • This sounds AWESOME with my noise canceling headphones.... Are these 4 strokers?

  • 2 stroke turbo charged. 710 cubic inches displacement per cylinder.

  • class 66 yeh here that engine lol

  • doesn't sound to bad but where's the thrash!!?? Gd vid btw

  • For once! It sounds moderately healthy!

  • Wow, its 66154!!!! This loco was my first freight spot :D:D Saw it in york on a tarmac train. Weird concidence

  • Ha ha, gota luv all the anti shed brigade, bless em. If we were still buggering about with the old loco's we had, we would no longer have a railfreight industry because it would all be on the fuckin roads. If it happens, 60's will be re-engined with

EMD 710 primemovers, tried and trusted tech from the end of WW2,one of the best in the world, fact!. They are built to earn money, not to please spotty neds who like noise and black smoke. Get over it ffs.

  • Ya know what? I kinda like those class 66 engines.

  • EWS are thinking of reengine the class 60's.There are sill some spare power units around at OLD OAK.The 60's are still good, worked on two yesterday.
