Damn! Thats is an Intense amount of lightning for a "Thundersnow" was there any part of the thunderstorm that was considered severe???, Most of the time, Thunderstorms that produce lightning at that frequency is usually severe mainly due to the wind dynamics in the middle atmosphere, unless it is summer convective thunderstorms generated by heat and humidity with lift. . .
@Thunderstruck201 There were no reports of severe weather. The Albuquerque NWS did issue a special weather statement indicating a possibility of penny-sized hail and 50 mph winds with the storm. However, at my location, anyway, there was no hail, just heavy graupel and snow, and the wind was nowhere 50 mph. There might have been hail or stronger wind somewhere, but there were no reports posted by the NWS of any severe weather with this storm.
@johnefarley We were visiting in the Santa Fe Plaza when this storm hit around 3pm. First rain, thunder, snow pellets, lightning and then heavy fast falling large snowflakes. Power went off in the Plaza shops two times. We tried to go South out of SF; the further South we got the worst it was. Clines Corners was a white out, many got stranded on Interstate. We kept south, stopped in Vaughn but were hit w/ brutal 50MPH winds. Around 8pm and 30 miles N of Roswell we pulled out of the front.
I looked up frequent thundersnow and this popped up!
