Penta is my favourite boss in this game, its the story that does it for me, the way all the crew members died and it was just floating about in space for a year. Graphics are amazing when you see this on a tv in front of you for real, and that music... for 1998 this was the highest of standards on a console

This game makes me proud to have chosen the Saturn back when it came out, later on I got all 3 current next gen systems but I knew all along that the underrated unexploited black box was stunning, and like Marz said you have to see it on a tv to really see what kind of effects Treasure was able to pull off off the Saturn.

Agreed. My 17 year old cousin who plays his Xbox 360 and PS3 was actually amazed when I showed him this video. Once I get this and other shooters for my Saturn. I'm making sure he plays these and sees the essence of retro-gaming and how good they are.

With that said, I am not knocking on the next-gen consoles. I myself own a PS3 and enjoy playing it very much. Young gamers need to play some old school games and not discredit them due to high difficulty and aged graphics and sounds.

Oh, give me a freaking break. I own a Nintendo Wii, and every single one of the dozens and dozens of games I have for it are all from the Virtual Console. The only systems I play are Sega Master, Genesis, Turbo Grafx, Sega Saturn. I am so into shooters.

But some of them are made so excruciatingly difficult, that it becomes apparent that they deliberately made them that way for the arcades where you're expected to be putting in quarter after quarter because you keep dying in under 10 sec.

That's why they're so praised, cause of their difficulty. There's also Ikaruga, Dodonpachi, Gradius V, Mushisimesama(?), and so many others. You just don't see American companies make arcade games like this anymore, only Japan does.

Radiant silvergun is a great shooter. The grafic is top. From the arcade feeling it is a little bit to slow. The long boss fights is not my thing. i prefer more arcade shooter Do Don Pachi is faster and have more action

I concur. I really liked Soukyugerentai (Terra Diver) too, but I was never able to complete it, it's hard with a capital H. Radiant Silvergun all by itself guarantees the Saturn a place in my console library for all time, and there are plenty of other great 2D titles where that came from.

If you want another nice shooter for the Dreamcast (other than Ikaruga) take a look at Bangai-O, also from Treasure. The default control setup is questionable but the gameplay is spot on.

Penta is one of my favorite tracks in the game (Second only to Origin). It's also one of my favorite bosses, too, so I'm glad to see this show up on here. I always hated how homing stuff would go after the black silverguns.

This is one of those games that has a flawless design. From hitboxes to the difficulty to the music to the amount of extra's.. its really perfect. Its a perfect game, it also pushes the saturn. Due to its populairity on auction sites, the game got its share of haters who claim its overrated. Its not, the game is fantastic. One of the best games I've ever played and still have it.

Unlike a lot of shooters radiant silvergun last's for a long time especially on saturn mode as it goes through all the levels and the extra bosses at the end is a very sweet touch.

plus it's also one of the hardest games to get through on one credit in very hard mode!!

One of the finest games ever. Incidentally, the weapons this boss uses are essentially the same as your own. Seemed just about each type pwned whoever was playing... (it is hard though so you're forgiven!)

Which is a crock. Radiant Silvergun is at worst uncommon in Asia, being one of the Saturn's best titles. Somehow importers have managed to keep the price of this thing sky-high by claiming it to be ultra-rare, and that goes twice for Panzer Dragoon. Goddamn ebay parasites...
