I'm from Poland, if that is of any relevance. Most of the EU doesn't prosper though, it merely vegetates. In the countries of the "old EU" (the first 15 member states) the average economic growth was around 1-2% when the world economy was blooming. Now it's well below 0!
As for how to solve this problem? Just like Thathcher's UK or Pinochet's Chile or Ireland once did - cut the social expenses and deregulate the market. The EU is doing exactly the opposite.

No country signed the Lisbon Treaty, politicians did. The obligations lie with those politicians, not their countries.
More Europeans have voted against the Lisbon Treaty than for it.
One country has rejected it, whilst no nation has voted for it. This treaty has no mandate!

Err... What do you mean by "no country has voted for it"? Although some countries have not yet deposited the treaty, but as I understand 25 nations have indeed voted for it.
Also as I understand these matters the ratification process is still unfinished...

What the hell did Mr. Barroso mean by signing the the treaty in 2007 everybody are bound to ratify it? It should go something like this: by signing a treaty everybody should at least have vote about the treaty :)
