i think i was at this recording - we had a school trip to see the making of this programme, it was definatley the same year, but cant remember this interview being done, but i remember her performing a song(cant remember which) and i was stood not that far away from her, as i remember her being really small, which was strange as i was only 11 at the time!!!
People need to quit comparing lady ga ga with Kate Bush. Lady Ga Ga actual personality is quite (I don't know how to put this) loud and showy, I remember (annoyingly) watching an interview with her and Jay Leno, she ate some papers. Kate, on the other hand, is much more sensitive and thoughtful I think. There is a huge contrast between Kate the Performer on stage, and Kate off the stage. You don't really get that feeling with Lady CaCa.
These kids were about 10 years old then. That was also my age at the time. I hope they do remember that they could wear the "dunce" hat from the Sat in your lap video! I sure would!! I can't imagine a kid's programme today in which an artist could explain her music for 7 minutes...

The fact she's interviewed by Desmond Morris on this channel shows how intelligent a lady she is and how good arts programming was back then.I can't see Mark Lawson interviewing Cheryl Cole somehow. Children these days are bombarded with imagery rather than interpersonal communication, as we can see here with Kate she is actually communicating with the children, they weren't corrupted by computers, xbox games, i phones, i pods etc. back then.
I would love to grow up listening to kate bush. As it is, I discovered her only very recently and have to trace back her career and albums. If I ever have kids, Kate Bush will be there for them in the background, so they know her angel voice from the very beginning of their lives :)

Out of interest, because Kate first appeared on the scene in the late 70's, we seem to identify her in our minds from being from a previous era; Her style, image & so on. However if we compare her to Madonna for example - who is very much an 80's girl, there is only 3 weeks between them age-wise!
Because Kate was very young when she made these great songs, whilst Madonna was well into her 20s when material girl etc reached the charts! Kate also seems to follow her own path, whereas Madge was preoccupied with current fashions.
@anthonythirteen I don't think age is important when it comes to music, Madonna did her own thing. But yes Kate is very articulate and humble, which is more than can be said for any musicians today. She's the best female artist out there in my opinion.
Singers don't do stuff like this much anymore! It's always good to install ambition in children! These days creativity is definitely not encouraged in kids all schools and the gov are concerned is academic skills and the less academic kids just struggle and feel unfulfilled!

ne ha meno di 50 a quanto ne so, e' piu' giovane di madonna. il suo ultimo album e' AERIAL del 2005, molto nelle sue corde ma anche un po piu' ostico di quelli piu' pop (anche synth-pop a volte) degli 80's, non manca qualche incursione nell'elettronica accennata anche in Aerial ma niente piu' Hounds of Love e anni '80. la sua voce comunque e' sempre ottima e le melodie e gli arrangiamenti eccelsi come sempre. si attende da anni una nuova raccolta + un dvd con i video, perennemente annunciato.

@dontleademsomuch I agree... she lived without all that paparazzi stuff and all the promotions of her work by choice, not because she couldn't sell herself well. She had more image to sell than other female artists that earn so much million selling theyr looks and gossip. She allways said that she wants to make music, not to be famous and spend more time promoting than working.

My mum listened to her music with me, that gives you a little ... let's say... criteria, or idea about music, you choose differently. If they don't teach you where music comes from, you just see it on TV, and that's all.

@JohnnySwitchblade They don't get exposed to anything creative, it all follows formulae, so when they hear anything that doesn't, they're distracted by it not following the 'rules'. That happened to me, I was in the Steps generation, but now I've been able to explore what's out there, I think almost everything in the Top 20 is an abomination, so you can recover, lol

Wierd to think that this beautiful young woman is 50 now, & those kids in the audience are in their late 30's & early 40's ! - I was 11 in 1981 (when this clip was from) - I'm 39 now :-(
Out of interest, because Kate first appeared on the scene in the late 70's, we seem to identify her in our minds from being from a previous era; Her style, image & so on. However if we compare her to Madonna for example - who is very much an 80's girl, there is only 3 weeks between them age-wise!

Because Kate was very young when she made these great songs, whilst Madonna was well into her 20s when material girl etc reached the charts! Kate also seems to follow her own path, whereas Madge was preoccupied with current fashions.

Singers don't do stuff like this much anymore! It's always good to install ambition in children! These days creativity is definitely not encouraged in kids all schools and the gov are concerned is academic skills and the less academic kids just struggle and feel unfulfilled!
