  • I too saw that interview " STILL BILL" and was in AWE of this man, he's so real. He's HEAVY as man DAD from his era would say. May GOD touch him to share more of his inner spirit and inspirational words with us.

    cause he's HEAVY !

  • He pulled a drug intervention on David Crosby

  • find & watch his documentar Still Bill. This man is saying something you might be interested in.

  • if you can, find the documentary Still Bill about this man. I can't get it off my mind.

  • I'm a middle aged white dude and I'm telling ya...Bill Withers is an inspiration.

  • @MrJuanlennon Same here.

  • This man is great

  • Awesome; Mr. Withers is still a handsome man.

  • A real working class hero!

  • Bill, you are fantastic!

  • This is a true brother, a ture man, ture humanbeing. He has a lot to teach the young singers of today. I hope he is around for a long time to come. When I wanted my son to hear a real man sing, I would play some of Mr. Withers tunes.

  • THIS MAN IS PART OF WHY I AM WHO I AM TODAY..... PARENTS RAISED ME LISTENING TO TO HIS WISE AND INSIGHTFUL AND HEARTFELT MUSIC.. WISH I COULD MEET THIS MAN IN PERSON... LONG LIVE BILL WITHERS!!!!!!!!!

  • WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE reelBLACK? GOD PEOPLE, Get over the racist stuff!! You complain about segregation, then you segregate your own damn selves. It's the definition of insanity. PEOPLE R PEOPLE R FUCKING PEOPLE. GET WITH IT!!

  • @Darkestone46and2 Yes, I feel guilty watching this when they say "real black". Cuz that would mean, if you're not black you better not be watching.. lol

  • @speeddddrt LOL, SBT!! I was dealing with a LOT of racism the day I watched this & when I saw "reelblack" I kind of went off. :P As a young black person, I see more Racism against whites coming from my own people than from ANY of the white folks I know. IDK, maybe this person WANTS segregation, just like Malcom X did. I just don't see why color of skin is such a big deal. Can't we all just be humans and brothers and sisters? We are all struggling to live, why make it hard on each other?

  • @Darkestone46and2 Question...is it possible to be "pro" something without being "anti" the (perceived) opposite? The goal of Reelblack is to celebrate quality entertainment and turn people on to information or talents that might otherwise go under the radar. There's no prejudice against anyone watches you'll never see any kind of racist rants in our clips or on our comments boards. Please don't feel guilty about watching our clips. Feel inspired.

  • I would imagine sitting down and having a conversation with him would have your eyes glazed with wonder during the entire time.

  • cool cool cool hes what cool is

  • Still a very handsome man! Now don't judge me by my screen name...Archie was my favorite dog!!! LOL!!

    Barb in Colorado!

  • looks like a black version of allan sugar

  • @cholaskelly he is much better than alan sugar though. he's bill withers!!! x

  • gosh he's still handsome !!!

  • Bill your an awesome dude and thank you for your music.... very classy...........

  • Did he quit beating his wife???

  • @cookieman38111 At first I wanted to hate you for that post...but then I looked it up and there where long standing rumors that he did abuse his wife. I have a lot less respect for him if it really happened.

  • @Dhurtymack It didnt happen. Denise Nicholas said later in a interview she lied about that. But unfortunately his career went down because of that. I have much respect for Bill and his talent.

  • @heyroz27 Thanks man, that is very good news to hear.

  • @Dhurtymack I forget her name but it was the woman who starred in the tv show "room 222". Denise something.

  • Wow! He aged well! Nice looking man...... great interview.

  • Bill represents the Beautiful in Black is Beautiful. He radiates class. I wish we had more like him instead of the ganstas and rappers.

  • Listen to Bill's voice... mmmm... even when he's talking, his voice sings.

This is a voice I want to be listening to , teaching me his POV on the Important Things.

I'm so glad somebody caught this question and answer on video. We can learn from Mr. Withers.

Somebody outta tell him to put out a series of .MP3s on Q's & A's on his Point Of View about Important Things in Life.

  • @DancingSpiderman Oh yes! You are right! Perfect timing and rhythm!

  • Right on Bill Withers!

  • Damn, I'd be very pleased if I look like him when I'm 70. He looks like he's lived a good and happy life doing what he loves, Probably why he looks so well.

  • Bill da man!!

  • Just imagine if the artist that are out today had the same integrity as Bill, we wouldn't have the crap they play on the radio today.

  • @SSMD1 ...there's CRAP on the radio today?

  • It's a never ending battle brotha's..But you can't give up.

  • Bill Withers is as real as they come...he didn't sell his soul or integrity to make a quick buck....He is a stand up man full of wisdom....

Much love to Mr. Withers.....Its great to see that he is still around living life to the fullest.

  • so much wisdom and truth!

  • kudos to the man still bill withers this guy is my idol man everything he said is the truth and the man never sold himself short kudos baby like you r records says just do what your doing and do it good

  • This Man is Wise!

  • I feel you. Thank you for now selling all of us out!!!!

  • I will always love this man's music but he always appeared so mean & grouchy lol!. He's 70? Still love him though even if he sounds like he could be Judge Joe Brown's father lol!

  • true legend

  • MY HERO. MY IDOL. A REFLECTION IN WHAT I CONSIDER PERFECTION THROUGH THE CRITICAL SELECTION OF ONESELF IN ABSOLUTE HONEST. PURE PUT BILL WITHERS IS A BEAUTIFUL MAN WITH ATTRIBUTES I COULD ONLY DREAM OF PORTRAYING AFTER A LIFE TIME OF LIVING WITH YOUR EYES WIDE OPEN.

  • Still Bill

    Keepin it very very real.

  • One of the greatest.

  • I love Bill to death. The only thing I took from this is when Bill says, " It don't take a genius to be a mechanic" I'm sure Bill knows that no one changes their oil any more, that's why he wants to sit at home. I don't blame him.

  • he's so real.

  • 80's sucks!!!

  • Awesome; a true legend in the music game.

  • I sure hope you are well and happy, Mr. Withers.

  • He wasn't about to compromise his principles then, and he isn't about to compromise them now. When his 1st LP came out he was still working at Boeing (installing toilet seats in 707s).

Yeah, he could be a greedy bastard. . . . he could come out of retirement, do an LP, go out on tour and make a zillion dollars. . . but why? Evidentially he doesn't need the money (or the headaches).

  • beautiful man, voice, and songs.. he is irreplaceable!

  • Get sick of you... Mmmm, sir, I don't think it could ever be possible.

  • I'll second that. He's a class act.

  • Comment removed

  • Bill Withers is a true class act.. The black community could use more men like him. He just walked away from the scene, and left a huge impression..

  • Ain't no Sunshine when he's gone!!!! now comment on that!

  • Bill is still fine, hmmm he got better with time. Thanks for not selling out Bill! Love your music.

  • i love him. what a great guy and sorry bill but i think u are more than a regular guy!!

  • Still profound in his simplicity; man I'd sure love to see this cat play again but it would obviously have to be on his terms.

No wonder we love his music: Integrity!

  • Now that's keeping it real.

  • Bill withers. A gentle soul. Class

  • In a word: Dignity!

  • thanks bill, for all your humble words and beauty of life and simplicity, where like myself i dont see colour but i see people all around me living life

  • he's aged really well just like sean connery.

  • @natureboyinyourface Lawd has this man aged fine... like fine wine...keeping it real always, he is Still Bill, Just As I Am. LOve you Mr. Whithers... always!

  • @natureboyinyourface Love that man!

  • This man is the epitome of a distinguished gentleman. He had his priorities in order from day one. I admire him more than words could express.

  • @raddwest No, she was married to CBS anchor Jim Hill

  • srry but ur wrong : /

  • if you name someone who never made a mistake then i'd hold it against bill for the remainder of days. did he ever do it again and again? there are some things that people still do over and over that are worse than what he may have done. i see where you're coming from. i'm a product of domestic violence and it's disgusting. However, we'll never see perfection in genius, mediocrity, or anyplace in between. He's posted for his body of work not his personal life.

  • I understand where ur coming from, but he was getting comments about his personal being and not just his body of work, and yes he did do it more than once w that particular woman. I was heartbroken when i researched this about him because i love his music. I guess because I'm a woman it doesn't seem fair for him to be praised for anything but his work...

  • @raddwest How long ago was it?

  • Allegedly!! It was one incident if it did happen, and he's 70 without any other similar cases.. He's a good man!

  • Thank ya Bill - hey, some personal probs thru it all, but who doesn't brutha? Very talented, very honest, no BS - yer great.

  • If someone asks "What is it to be a man?", just play that clip.

  • @arrangerbaritone i second tht opinion

  • @arrangerbaritone i second tht opinion

  • @arrangerbaritone yup tht sounds about rite to me

  • @arrangerbaritone Right on Bill Withers! Right On! A man that has the integrity to know who he is and requires the respect of others............. he doesn't demand respect.......... He knows who, and what, he is........... he only desires that you understand him, ........ that you try and respect him. He knows what he wants......... He knows what he is willing to give..!

  • @arrangerbaritone You are absolutely correct about that! You know, Bill didn't "sell out" not to himself or anyone else. He stayed true to his values and I think that not only was he an amazing talent but a man of integrity as well. God bless him. Like I commented on an earlier post, maybe someday I'll get lucky enough to bump into to Bill when we're looking for our "Grandmother's Hands"!!

  • @arrangerbaritone

That's a really nice comment and true. Bill is a gem of a man.

  • @arrangerbaritone Bill Withers is the EPITOME of a working man who made it in the music business. Don't allow yourselves to be fooled by these phony working class heroes (e.g. Bruce Springsteen, Bob Seger, Toby Keith, etc. . . ). Bill Withers is the real McCoy.

  • Agreed with him up to the 'you dont need to be a genius to be a mechanic' bit ...FACT IS YOU DO NOWADAYS

  • GOD gives his BLESSINGS TO THE "BEST" and THE DESERVING..........

Mr. BILL WITHERS VERY "INTELLIGENT, AND CLASSY".......I LOVE YOU AND THE WORLD DOES TOOOO........

  • Wonderful. In an age when the general IQ level seems to be falling off a cliff and refinement and good manners are becoming rapidly harder to find, it is heart-warming and encouraging to find that their are still good people out there setting the right example as role models for the kids. Very much respect from me to Mr Bill Withers and a big thank you to reelblack for posting this clip.

  • Still Bill is THE MAN and an example of how a regular guy with a regular job can become a star and still stay grounded. Such a classy brother! "Hope She'll Be Happier" is one of my favorite songs ever. Love you Bill !!

  • I agree. I just saw "Soul Power" and he gave a showstopping rendition of that song. Such a unique artist.

  • Amen to that agree with you 1000%....

  • withers is the pride of West Virginia!

  • A great fella that Bill.

  • WOW. What absolute grace, style, class and beauty...This man truly is one of a kind.

  • So true.....he is one of , if not THE greatest soul singer/songwriters of all time. Beautiful voice...beautiful tunes.

  • Sound old boy.

  • i'm in love with him. so much

  • The real deal. No BS. A proper dude.

  • Wisdom beyond years!

  • 8'000th view. Boom :)

  • Classic. Period. A regular guy.

  • I love Bill Withers, I was just listening to one of his CD's from the 1970's. Lean on me, Use me, Ain't no sunshine...What an amazing talent. What amazing man. He sure looks handsome, he doesn't look like he's in his 70's. God Bless him.

  • He is wonderful and BTW, he is in the Wisdom Book.

  • Mad Props Mr Withers your music is truly amazing.

  • wow thank you for not facking or flacking

  • Wow. Can't help but admire this guy.

You know, speaking of "Cotton COmes to Harlem", I looked the book AND movie (A big Chester Himes fan), but I DEFINITELY understand where Bill is coming from.

I just wonder if the song "Harlem" from his debut LP was actually written for that movie before he changed his mind. That song seems to summarize that entire movie...in just a couple of minutes no less.

  • Bill is a legend...among the most soulful honest singer song writers.ever.. beautiful, simply beautiful

  • Bill, sing us a song,

    you're the singer.

  • Wow..thanks for post. I would stutter so much when asking for an autograph.. gee man.. you the greatest..

  • Legend.

  • Aint no sunshine wen bill is ollllllldddd

    :P

  • man this is great...talking about his days at lockheed and getting into music in his 30s. oh man. inspiring.

  • Amen Bill!!!!

  • fuck i wish im this coherent at 70 hahah

  • hahahaha i was thinking the same thing man...hes a bad cat

  • You know for a person my age, (28) I heard his songs when I was young, yet never realized till I was older that a lot of the songs I could sing by heart were by him.

Lovely Day, Aint no Sunshine, Lean on Me... It was a real eye opener and almost unfathomable that he was responsible for all of those songs. So much greatness in music by one person. Some people live their whole life to write one epic, he wrote many.

    Bill is amazing..

  • lol...yea hes a legend.....and i really liked hid answer!!!!

  • 70? Man he looks good for 70. Bet he can still play and sing better than 99% of the musicians out there also.

  • Another one of America's treasures

    ...Mr. Bill Wither's.

  • Simply the best there ever was in all aspects. Bill...we miss you!!

  • Great guy, great singer/song writer. RESPECT
