  • In another version the Anthemettes are the Anthemites. The lounge lizard version is my favorite. GET ON WITH IT!

  • NEMO'S DAD??? haha knew that!

  • And SNL did not start until 1975

  • long before there was American Idol... He Knew the Comedy that is tryouts, brilliant.

  • Man I`m getting old,I remember watching this.

  • he was on the tonight show with jay leno tonight...he looks about the same 40 years later, the only difference is he doesn't have the curly hair

  • AM! ER! ICA!

  • jeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwww

  • YOU JAIL ALL YOUR BLACK!

  • One of the most original, and flat-out Funniest people on the planet!

  • Genius. Just genius.

  • if there's a mt rushmore of comedians abrooks' kisser is on it

course it's an absolutely brilliant piece but the thing i admire extra

about this gag is the piano playing makes it look so easy ha

as someone trying to learn even the basics of it it aint

  • Bill Murray copied the lounge singer character on SNL

  • @md4bush Weird, because Albert Brooks worked for SNL at the time....

  • @CoolerKing37 Not true. Brooks worked for SNL during the first year only when Chevy Chase was there. Bill Murray came on for the second season when Chase left. Brooks was gone too.

  • what happened to the part where he sings (to the tune of the actual "Star-Spangled Banner") :"While we stand here and waaaait/ For-rrrrr the Balll - game to Staaaaaaarrrrt"...? Maybe it was deemed too risky for TV or something like that.

  • @MrEYTheInternational -- Once I sang that at the beginning of a White Sox game at the old Comiskey Park and friends seated near me (unfamiliar with this Albert Brooks monologue) laughed.☺

  • The two people that disliked this video probably want the National Anthem to stay the same song.

  • One of the great comedy sketches of all time.

  • I saw Al do this LIVE at thee Lighthouse Club in Hermosa Beach CA-

    Hilarious -

  • @rentatrip1 What other bit's did he do?

  • @joshscobey - well it was a long time ago about 1976 ?

I remember that in the middle of the set - he sort of got tangled up in his mic cord & the mic stand and then suddenly lost balance and fell to the floor in a heap , twisted there in a pretzel his face & mouth were hidden from the audience - his back was facing the group- after we finished laughing he remained there and then - to deliver the remainder of his bit in that position, which was quit funny like a virtual soundtrack

  • LOL! Great stuff. I think Pete at 4:41 is almost like Robin Williams (not intentionally)

  • @ScottfromTexas Brooks did this way before Robin Williams came along. Williams a notorious joke theif so he intentionally ripped off Albert brooks

  • a-m...e-r...i-c...AAAAA!!!!

  • "HEY WORLLLLLD!!!"

  • My parents used to play this track off his album back in the 70s.

    Classic!

  • Genius, saw this on Johnny Carson, then bought the album. Hilarious idea.

  • Albert Brooks is BRILLIANT!

  • He left out the best one. "My name is Hal Carter and I've lived the last 75 years in Michigan. While we stand here waiting for the ballgame to start, let's give thanks for TV and our 2 car garaaage...." Hilarious.

  • Happy Fourth Of July All - This is a great comedy piece about the national anthem, enjoy.

  • Wow! so funny

  • In the album version, it was Leroy Brown. I love it. ANY GHETTO YOU CHOOSE.

  • This was on the A Star is Bought album. He didn't do the submission that was set to the tune of the Star Spangled Banner: As we sit here and wait/ For the ballgame to start/ Let's give thanks for our homes/ And our two car garages. Let's give thanks for TV..Let's give ------(THANK YOU!)

Then there was Stan Freberg's tune set to the SSB: Rumplemeyer's horseshoes are the best you can use/ What so proudly he's nailed/ Onto all kinds of horses...

  • @foxvermont That was my favorite part too. It's on the album version.

  • @juliabohemian Yup, used to have that album plus the Comedy Minus One album too
