Jaclyn seems too fragile for Hollywood. Listening to her, I think she really would have been happier as a ballet teacher or maybe a kindergarten teacher. But she was so exquisite and vulnerable, and Hollywood being what it is, I think she just kind of did what she went along with it. Her defenses come through. She really is part lamb, part doe.
@Geupel That's interesting because I didn't get "fragile" from her at all in this interview. Nor did I get that she was just going along with the program. She clearly talked about NOT being part of the Hollywood scene despite being on such a hit show. That must have taken some backbone. "Shy" doesn't always mean "weak".
@VirgoDar Hey there. I have never thought of Jaclyn Smith as "weak", just not the typical kind of "fighter" I usually associate the Hollywood pace turning out. In terms of what really counts in life, i.e., personal integrity and love for family and friends, it would be my guess that she has more than most. I still believe that she is exsquisite and delicate and probably would have been very happy being a kindergarten teacher or something. She seems very maternal and loving.
I just love how you can tell how much Kate and Jaclyn care for each other. Their chemistry just comes through so strongly. I think they looked out for each other.
I wrote to her once when she came to Britain and her hotel room was burgled. She was a lovely lady who took time out to respond to my letter and I still have the reply she sent me to this day.
But during this interview, and circa this time frame, she was dating Dennis Cole I think which is the "special man" she was talking about. Kate was married to Andrew Stevens around this time, but not sure if they were divorced around the time of this interview which is 1978 (according to when this Charlie's Angels episode aired, Pretty Angels All in a Row)
Jaclyn did or Kate did? I remember reading that Kate, at this time, could not accept any speaking parts in tv shows due to her being in acting school or something like that. That was why when she appeared as the ghost of Daphne Harridge on the show at first, her character never talked. If you meant Jaclyn, that's Dark Shadows trivia I never knew, and I usually pride myself on DS trivia.
yeah..in one of the "DS" books it says that Jaclyn Smith read for the part of "Victoria", but I don't remember is she turned it down to do something else or what.
It also said that Kate Jackson had to "lose" her Southern accent and she was thankful that "Dahpne" was a non-speaking role for awhile (such as the case for David Selby).
Oh, but I LOVED "Dark Shadows" AND "Charlie's Angels", didn't you?
When Charlie's Angels was broadcasted at the time, I desperately needed her to be my wife, mind you I was only four years of age at the time. The most gorgeous creature ever to walk the planet.
She is really one of the most amazing people in the world. Her HUGE heart is unheard of, especially in celebrities today.

She would have loved to have been a slave-owning plantation princess. How nice.

I can't get over how beautiful Jaclyn Smith was and still is. She's beautiful, but approachable. She has a warmth that radiates through the screen.

They divorced in 1980, Kate and Andrew Stevens, that is.
