I believe that with further research you will find that Huey Long was concerned about the poor only inasmuch as they could be used to help him increase his personal political power and wealth. He was a brilliant politician, but if he had not been killed at such a young age, he would have eventually been viewed in the same light as most populist politicians- full of promises, short on results.
