All our cats are rescues. My current cat was a stray that came up to my door, I took him in and now hes a happy, healthy cat. He was skin and bones and clawed up when he came.
Thank you for posting this. Hopefully it will open up people's eyes to what the reality is for homeless cats that are left to fend for themselves. Spay/neuter, adopt, advocate! Keep up the good fight SweetVegan74!

I volunteer at the Forgotten Ones cat rescue and I see so many cats like this... >< It really breaks my heart to see how some people can do this. Thank you to everybody who adopts cats and gives them a nice home <3
This angered me and saddened me all 12 od our cats were strays or cast offs one semi feral and blind , I am full and cannot take in any more and it hurts to say no, where I live some body will turn you in if they think you have 2 many
all our cats, with the exception of the kittens who were born to pregnant mothers we rescued and one we adopted from a shelter- were all strays from the street, even a couple of ferals....so to answer the question for myself- who would want a "dirty old stray"?
well, i do...and truth be told- anyone with a heart- and if this video didn't move you to tears, or move you at all- i'd check my pulse because you may not have a heart.
actually, the ideal for most cats is to be able to have the space and freedom to roam and play, but still have a nice, warm, dry, safe place to curl up at night as well as healthy food, and clean water- in order for this to be the case- someone- a human- has to take care of them. the ideal place is like Cathouse on the Kings in California, or Best Friends Sanctuary, or other such places. some cats prefer to just be indoors, some of ours are like that. but all cats need food, water and shelter.
how beautiful.......how sad. there used 2 b a "dirty old stray" wandering around my neighborhood a couple of years ago.....it was going into winter n i worried about her. at the time i had 8 cats n 4 dogs but i could NOT leave her out in the bitter cold. it took me 3 weeks 2 coax her into my warm n loving home.....she stayed till May then went "nuts" 2 go back out.....i never saw Mrs Murphy again. i wonder what happened 2 her.....i looked n looked for her. she was a wee beauty. bless u mrs. m
what people need to understand is that most stray cats are much happier than the avarege fat and neutered indoor cat that spend its life in totally boredome
Are you that blind? Come to my local clinic that spays stray cats and see how "happy" they are.. worms.. emaciation, FeLv, FIV, bb punctures... females are 80% of their lives either pregnant or nursing. Males have their eyes and ear ripped up because of fighting.. I seen to much to know that indoor cats are far better off. Play with them daily and they won't be bored.
@sweetvegan74 I agree 100% with your statement. My daughter rescued 4 strays in the past year. 3 of them were desperate for food, warmth and attention and hung around the back door crying for days. They looked so thin and 2 of them had eye infections. Fortunately they now are in loving homes. We now have another "tuxedo" hanging around in our backyard. My daughter feeds him and he comes right up to her. She's in the process of finding him a good home before winter arrives.
@sweetvegan74 just want to add - thank you for posting this video. You have a heart. Needless to say, I cried my eyes out. Sadly, many people fail to realize that cats are domestic animals and are subject to the same perils we would if left to live out in the elements. Just the other day, I saw a familiar cat that once roamed the neighborhood - a beautiful ginger cat who was lying dead by the side of the road; obviously struck by a car. God bless.
@sweetvegan74 i am not blind believe me,i had cats all my life and i study bio veterinary science. i know a lot about stray (or actually i should call them ferral) cats because i am from southern italy and there there are a lot of ferral cats,i can assure you that most ferral cats in italy are happy to lead a natural existance (cats are not like dogs, they are not complitely domesticated, thats mean most of them can lead a wild life).of course ferral cats have a shorter life span but this is nat
@salvolondon I have been in the veterinary industry myself for 20 years and I can tell you that there is a huge difference between strays and ferals. Besides, starving to death or getting FIV - well at least they are not bored pfffft!
@gingyluv your a vet? oh you must be a douchebag cause every vets office ive ever been in was full of douchebags who want my money..... even tho they killed my cat they still want the 800 bucks.. thanks veterinary industry!!!
@salvolondon i am an absolute animal lover! i have 3 cats who when i got them as small kittens were all unwanted. i also have two bunnies tht i rescued from a wonderful shelter. but it is videos like this one that i hate because you try and make people feel bad or guilt them into helping. that doesnt work, those people dont even bother looking at these videos! its the people who do care that feel like they arent doing enough when we watch. make a video of the cats that have been rescued instead>
So sad and so true.. Please adopt a rescue cat and dont pocket breeders and pet shops pockets.. If no one buys from them they will be forced to stop seeling which is to just anyone.. Our rescue has a few kittens and cats needing homes (Nottingham) the last in just a 6 month old stray girl..
I just adopted a year old black cat from the shelter who was found as a stray, she looks like she was been pregnant but is spayed so they must have killed her babies. She is very confident and affectionate, her name is Mouse. :)
Awww... That is so sad. It touched my heart... and i was actually crying. I don't care if a cat is dirty or anything, i'd take it home and call it my own
This shatters my heart. I wish I could adopt or find homes for all these beautiful little souls. I have two of my own, I found them in a cardboard box when they were the size of hamsters and now I can't imagine my life without them. Thank you for posting this and raising awareness.
My good friend works at Walmart. An employee heard kittens crying pitifully. Searching the dumpster they discovered a box containing seven kitttens. They had their eyes open. The employee went to the manager for help. He heartlessly said we can't do anything for them--put them back! Two ladies waiting in the checkout line heard the conversation and were horrifed--immediately demanding that the employee give them the kittens. They are safe. The manger has been reported.
watching this video makes me sad but its a at there great at hunting mice and birds other small animals and wouldent a cat be happier living free coming and going as it pleases like all animals ounce did
No, their domesicated animals. They would rather play with a plush mouse safe indoors, well fed and loved then abuse, starved and freezing or out in the scolding sun.
Omgosh great video this video had me not just in tears but im bawling my eyes out cause i just picked up a stray he's only 8 weeks old and sweet as can be. Ppl can be so cruel. big <3's to all my cat lovers out there
my kitten was abandoned by its mother when she couldnt feed him, when we got him he couldnt even eat solid food. now he is to and has my other big fat cat to keep him company
My cat Lucy was brought into our family by my step father, Jeff. He was working on somebody's house, fixing a window or something. Lucy, just a tiny kitten, walked up to him and mewled excitedly through the broken window. The family was moving, and they didn't have enough money to properly feed and house the kitten, sadly. Jeff offered to keep the kitten nice, dry, and safe. We took her to the vet, and she had terrifying ear mites. She is healthy and strong now. What is this song called?
Two ferals took up residence in my yard last year...I've been feeding and taking care of them ever since. They are still very people shy, (won't let you pet them) but they are sweet cats. I know they've been spayed and neutered 'coz the person who brought them into the neighborhood said they were part of a trap, spay, neuter release program. They seem to be doing very well here, and are allowing me to sit near them now. They sleep outside in a house we bought for them.
Very compassionate video. A neighbor brought two feral cats to the neighborhood to catch chipmunks. She has 4 kids and a dog, and the cats didn't like the environment. So they ran over to my yard, lol. I've been feeding them ever since. They are fixed and have had their shots. They still won't let you pet them, but they are getting to the point they'll let you near...they are true ferals. No matter though. I get enough satisfaction just looking at them...they are beautiful. :)
i adopted stray cat, when i find her she was pregnant and half dead, but i took her to mi home and after long fight for her life she survived (and kittens too)
I can't wrap my head around someone that would throw out their pet like garbage.
My ex locked one of my cats out once and when I found out I went looking for her. When I found her, she was curled up shaking against the sliding glass door (where she went out). When I brought her in, she would not let me go. I cant imagine doing that to her on purpose.
I will adopt adopt until I can't open a can of cat food.
I may be alone, but I'm not lonely. I'm a proud foster parent of the 3 beautiful girls.
please spread the truth about abandoned animals on the streets...ferals, strays, they are all God's gift to us..No need to pay alots of money to have that gift..it is free and beautiful...at least help your local shelters or groups people who are really working hard to make a difference..they are great people, sometimes they use even their own money to help a stray..every window deserves a cat...everyhome becomes better with animals in it..we become better with the love of animals..
This thought me a huge lesson sweetvegan...love can be very strong but very fragile too..we must protect it as well..this cat a home once, because his last strentgh to jump on my bed, the bed he missed so much..my heart is so broken, why people let their animals go on streets? they give us unconditional love, why throw them away like a trash? I am still crying, he was a very special cat, i know he was :( and I thank you very much for everything you are doing...
he was such sweet cat, in his big pain, did not forget to say thank you with his beautiful green eyes..
I beg everyone, please, please look around for an abandoned animal, try to hear their silent ordeal of bening abandioned and sick and hopeless fight form survival..and please adopt one, let them know they are alright, they deserve love, and friendship..
MAX sorry could not save you, but I will always remeber you..I know you were a very special cat...very special..
he kept looking into my eyes with a very soft expression saying thank you...and purred very shortly, pur his head on my arm and looked at me little more when i was crying..he had home once..a warm place..
then he laid down, but was breathing so heavy, and so skinny he was almost a fur left and some bones so light..i offered food and water he refused...kept changing his position whuile i was looking for help on the net i told him do not lose hope...there will be some help soon,..keep fighting...
he was in big pain, and trying to keep warm . rain was on the way, how could I just keep going..with tears in my eye, and no money in my pockets I lifted him, he did not resist maybe he was too weak maybe he was simply hoping although he knew he was near to his death..I took him home he made an effort to jump on my bed...
yesterday I have found a very sick stray cat...i called her she used her last strentgh to get up to come to me, with a hope, maybe her former owner came back to look for..with the hoped she got up and themn fell back ...then tried to stay warm on the dry leaves...
My daughter and her bf found a stray kitten at a picnic and took her to his apt.He had to give her to his friend later as he is allergic to cats plus she has long hair. The cat is doing just fine in Boston. When I get another cat someday,I'll go to a animal shelter.
truly beautiful video, one of the most moving i've seen.
i hope Forgotten Cats and every rescue group out there gets more support and inspires others to get out there and help our stray and feral brothers and sisters.
i'm not going to say how sad this video is because it's too obvious. anyone with a pulse and a heart should see that (so if someone can't i guess they have neither)...what strikes me is this: how is it that we see this sort of suffering daily, and in some places more so, yet so few bother to open their eyes enough to really see or their hearts to care? ...then there are even fewer, like yourself, who not only see it, but care enough to do something.
i have 3 stray cats and well they live on house that my dad made for them i also buy them toys ooo and we got a new cat just to think about what would hapend to my cats if i wouldn't been there to pick them up from the street it just makes me feel bad and when i get older i am going to try to help as much cats as i can to find a home or to let them just live with me
That poem always makes me cry, yesturday i gave myself a challenge of keeping a straight face but i afraid it was useless, can you not cry, bet you'll cry.
his video allways makes me cry!! Are all the videos taken by real strays? Or just normal photos? Please say that the one at the end or any other photo dosent mean what is sas! PLEASE! this allways makes me cry! I love animals, asspecially cats! :'(
if animals are existing in a domesticated society rather than be among their natural habitat, we being human beings owe it to them to keep making a difference....animals can't speak our language but we can communicate through our hearts.
this video is powerful and definitely gets the message across...thank you.
this breaks my heart. i have cats and all were strays at one time. i will never buy a new cat/kitten, they will always come from animal shelters or be strays that wander to my door.
Excellent video. Heartbreaking yes, but it is beautifully put together & has a powerful message. We saved another kitty this week-been trying to corral Sammy since January. Finally got him to the vet & he checked out OK - no bad diseases. YAY! I'm pretty sure we got his sister Sofia last Christmas Day.
Sweetvegan74, bless your heart for all the work you do. This video was so powerful- I am sitting at my desk in tears. Thank you for speaking for those who can't.
I rescued two starving cats. It breaks my heart as sweet and loving as they are somebody threw them out like trash and left them to starve. Ohh God how can people be that cold. Ohh God how cold people are
Your poem is so sad, but sooooo poweful. It's truly inspiring - well done! It steels my resolve to help stray cats & dogs which can be a challenge. Thanks for the motivation!
there are tons of cats like this on every corner of every town and city so why dont you go adopt 1 or 2, I have 3 and I just put up my 1st video of them and no one has looked at it, how do you get people to look at videos lol
The story is based on stray cats everywhere that have no one. If I ever came across a cat that was in need I would rather die then walk away from her.
I have just recently talked to my family abought adopting a cat from a shelter as my family wants another cat. My first cat was named Bambi and well she never knew the outdoors and for that I am glad. And I want to give a shelter cat a care-free life where it never thinks of the troubles it once had.
I almost got to the point of crying, then it ended and i watched some funny cat videos.... lol and it touched me thats why i have over a hundred cats at my house <.<
Being a cat owner myself, this video really touched me. I've taken in two cats from the streets, and one from a shelter. The first was Oreo, from the shelter. My next was Snow...the neighbor kids brought him over in a small crate, asking if i needed a kitten. He was small, sickly, and could barely stand up...how could I say no? The next was Nacho..he lived behind a huge office building and lived off of handouts from kind people and dumpster bits. But he's my little angel now. <3 This---
i cant stand to hear that cats die. i luv every cat no madder how mean or how sweet. i would want to adopt every stray cat there is. i feel srry for that poor kitty. :'(. it made me cry.
to tend to. Iffen I had a big enough home and fundages..well..<_< I'd be known as teh old guy taking care of crapload of strays. Fufu..though..to answer the question..i'd love to have a dirty ol' kitty =3. Imagining the sheer look in it's eyes when they have a warm place to sleep and food around the clock to eat would be rewarding enough to me!
-- okies, it ate my first comment..pretty much jus saying how much it baffles me on how people could be so crueld to something so innocent and how they should recieve a taste of their own medicine to know what it's like. And how it makes me feel better about myself to know even if it's the last five dollars in my pocket, i'd spend it least to get the kitty some foodums..or find a way to catch it to bring into the local animal shelter to be adopted or
I'm 15 years old and begged my parents to let me adopt from the humane society. I soon brought home my little Doddie. She was very sick when they found her and still was when we brought her home. She's Changed my life and this video brought tears to my eyes, I'm checking out the website right now!
Thank you sweetheart for your little story n Doodie and for voting. EVERY SINGLE vote will help! So please vote daily everyone so Forgotten Cats can help MORE homeless felines.
Our cats are harnessed when outdoors. They are neutered. Unfortunately a neighbors male mates, sprays, fights continuously. He also feeds a stray that is need of medical help. I consider this cruel. My wife and I are trying to get the stray for proper care. we'll see. So many people don't care about cats and dogs. Worse is when I hear people say they belong outdoors.
All 28 of my cats are strays and there all my little cuties and they had a baby and i always feed them and take pictures of them and water them and pet them and play with them and they live under my house and i have not a moment to stray but to keep them... i love them so much i liked this slideshow it's neat i'm going to add it to my website
this reminds me of two of my cats who have passed away, and both started their lives as strays. lilly, my familys first cat was found at my dads old car shop, my dad had to have her so we brought her home. another cat (my cat) cc was caught in a ln a live trap in the middle of a terribal storm, we gave him to our neibors whos cats where killed by coyotes, but he ran away and came back to my family. lilly was killed by a car when she passed the street. and one day cc never came home :'(
Beautiful tribute! I work at a shelter in Maryland and this clip brought tears to my eyes. There is another clip on You
Tube that I saw once and would like to find again that shows homeless cats and says something like "This is my house" and shows a stray cat in a dumpster. That one made me tear up too. Does anyone know where to find this clip one YouTube? Great tribue to these precious souls!
I'm currently working on earning the trust of a momma and her 5 kittens. She has them hidden under my neighbors porch and the neighbor gave me permission to catch them. All of em are strays. I go over and feed them twice a day, and refill their water daily.
I am in tears watching this. I just lost a 14 yrs old rescue kitty to aggressive mammary cancerMarch 27,09. I got her from the SPCA in 1997 at age 2. I miss her,as does my other cat. I am currently looking for another rescue kitty. I MUST keep saving their lives, Please have females spayed EARLY. It reduces risk of mammary cancer. My kitty hadn't been spayed until I adopted her.
This is one of the saddest videos I've seen to date, but it also contains one of the truest tragedies of our time. My heart breaks over and over again for stray animals; thank you for bringing light to an often overlooked situation. God bless you.
I cried... ;__; And I don't usually cry during stuff like this...
The whole time, I was wishing the poem would have a happy ending. :( Poor kitty... Both my kitties were strays before they came to us. Imagining something so terrible happening to them just makes my heart ache.
This was a poem I wrote back when I was in High School. This cat is a symbol to all the strays that need our help. I have 16 once dirty old strays plus my fosters
Both my cats were strays. We didn't get them from shelters, we picked them up off the street. Igor my mom found in a cardboard box trailer home over ten years ago, and Catarina was a stray roaming our street and we finally took her in about a week before winter came, that was at least six or seven years ago. It's true, adopt and save a life <3
I have never watched this video w/o crying. In fact, I am. This video is so sad, and it's true what it talks about. There are homeless and sick animals out there, and we all need to lend a helping hand!
No living creature should ever be subjected to this. We rescued our two littermate kittens from a kill shelter in Florida and if our home was bigger, we would have taken in more. They are love with four paws and a tail - every day they greet us at the door and hang out with us. All they need is a clean home, a clean litterbox, and good food and fresh water. What they give in return cannot be measured. Our vet calls them "magnificent creatures" and he is 100% correct.
This is so true. Everyone wants a kitten, but in Canada its not that bad. We are big cat lovers here with tons of organizations. From what I have seen in the Us, its pretty bad. I have 5 cats of my own who are all spayed/neutered. People need to be educated on animals before they adopt.
I returned home as fast as I could after Hurricane Gustav so I could get back to feeding all my stray babies. I had left them 15 pounds under a trailer in hopes that it wouldn't float away & the storm turned out to be more wind that rain. I left on Fri. & saw them again on Wed. Thank God they were all ok. I noticed on this Fri. That another feeder have returned to feed others on the next street over, I had put what food I had left for them on Wed. They all seemed storm-shocked, but alive!
oh one more thing...was the song used in your video a song played in the movie: shyndlers list? A beautiful song anyhow. I have lots of cats too at home. All rescues. I just took in a 1 day old premature baby kitten who I am caring for as well. I sometimes feel overwhelmed with animals but when I see something like this or an animal who has had nothing all its life finally get a home...it makes it all worth it!
Hi SweetVegan74...I just wanted to say how touching your video was. I work for an animal shelter and I know all too well about strays. There are so many who live outside our shelter who roam day and night. I feed them...and more and more appear as the weeks and months go by.Some are dumped and too afraid to come to me and others are feral. I have taken 5 so far from our outside area and re homed them. There are so many though...I will try to save more. Why don't people spay and neuter? sad sigh.
Thank you Lynn. I myself feel the same way. One reason on why I wrote the poem and years later had the time and heart to create the movie you just viewed.
just to continue ...would you believe in our city houses can only have 3 without a kennel license - and only six i think with one? that is one rule i'd overlook in a heartbeat...like my friend from cat rescue who has 19 - most of them strays and handicapped in some way....

actually, the ideal for most cats is to be able to have the space and freedom to roam and play, but still have a nice, warm, dry, safe place to curl up at night as well as healthy food, and clean water- in order for this to be the case- someone- a human- has to take care of them. the ideal place is like Cathouse on the Kings in California, or Best Friends Sanctuary, or other such places. some cats prefer to just be indoors, some of ours are like that. but all cats need food, water and shelter.

Play with them daily and they won't be bored.
sweetvegan74 1 year ago 16

I am still crying, he was a very special cat, i know he was :( and I thank you very much for everything you are doing...
fancyredrose 2 years ago
he was such sweet cat, in his big pain, did not forget to say thank you with his beautiful green eyes..
I beg everyone, please, please look around for an abandoned animal, try to hear their silent ordeal of bening abandioned and sick and hopeless fight form survival..and please adopt one, let them know they are alright, they deserve love, and friendship..
MAX sorry could not save you, but I will always remeber you..I know you were a very special cat...very special..

i'm not going to say how sad this video is because it's too obvious. anyone with a pulse and a heart should see that (so if someone can't i guess they have neither)...what strikes me is this: how is it that we see this sort of suffering daily, and in some places more so, yet so few bother to open their eyes enough to really see or their hearts to care? ...then there are even fewer, like yourself, who not only see it, but care enough to do something.
we all seem to be preaching to the choir.

<3 This---

Our vet calls them "magnificent creatures" and he is 100% correct.
thom413 3 years ago

Why don't people spay and neuter? sad sigh.

Maybe we could put our anger and sorrow towards educating the public.
What a beautiful, heart felt video.
So sad,
Yet necessary. to raise awareness,
Thank you for producing it.
