  • just got my notification from the Nest website today saying they have them back in stock. ordered mine immediately.... which was kind of unplanned spending on my part, but i know it'll be worth it. $250 is what i paid. its crazy how people on ebay are trying to sell theirs for $350-$450. such a ripoff. cant wait till mine comes

  • How good is this thing and how much does it costs?

  • @richardhalo it costs $250 + shipping on the Nest website. these things help to save you money on your energy bill. plus it looks pretty sleek and stylish. and you get to control this thermostat from your computer or from your smartphone anywhere in the world

  • 4:52 is that a cat?

  • @iBoy2G Good catch. Yes, I was almost done and really didn't think it was worth taking out. Her name is Shadow and she felt I had ignored her for too long.

  • I noticed this other video at around ~4:30 you can *really* see the blinking lights ...

search for: "Nest Thermostat - Easy Install"

(however, thankfully I too see nothing at all because it'd probably drive me nuts; so interesting what camera captures!)

  • Not really sure, but suspect its related to the motion sensor. The lights only show up in the video, the naked eye doesn't see them, or at least I can't see them.

  • Nice video, just wandering what's the thing on the top of Nest that keeps flashing, wireless signal?

  • @zepets Not sure. It's not really visible unless you get really really close or video it. :-) It might be related to the motion detector too.

  • Wireless is the only option. Mine is via a WEP protected N connection, the same connection used by my computers, DVRs, video game systems, and other devices. No idea about the transport layer, you'd have to ask Nest.

  • When you say "Network", what form of network? Wired? Wireless? Ethernet? Appletalk? i2c? Then what is the transport layer? X.25? TCP/IP? X/10?

Interesting device, if it utilizes common protocols and connectivity.

  • @hdinfo1 Wireless. You'd have to ask Nest about the transport protocol - it just found my standard wireless router and I logged in via my normal password as I would any laptop or similar gadget.

  • The two, I guess, sensors on the top keep blinking. I think they're stealing your soul. (Or watching you sleep.)

  • @StatVoid Ah! That explains my continued diminishing ability to make moral judgements without consulting with demons. Thanks for clearing that up!

  • Great video, thanks. Still waiting on mine from Bestbuy!
