@kill10003 You do not open is as much as enter it when your PC starts it will say hit x button to enter set up. Usually it is delete or f1 on most motherboards..
i hv the exactly same mb and cpu as urs, and im wondering if it is possible to make it fsb @500 (which i alrdy did since i hv a set of 1066 ram, running at 1002. and cpu at 3.5Ghz) and 4.0Ghz cpu speed at the same time?
Hey Rick nice vid though, thumbs up...before i got my q9450 i had a e8400 as well and reached 4.5 GHz (rev. C0) stable with watercooling, 8x multiplier, 562 MHz fsb...but that was the point man-just to mention the reserves of this cpu | still have screenshots^^
I am almost a noob to overclocking. I currently have my e8400 at 3.8Ghz.
I got my voltages set to 1.3 but for some reason when I boot into windows cpuZ reports the voltage at 1.26-1.28 volts. I have a Gigabyte motherboard I disabled EIST and doesen't help.
@djkub1 this is what is known as vdrop (voltage drop) it happens to all mobo's and its a part of overclocking..you have to compensate for this by raising the voltage so that under load when it "drops" it will still be enough to run it stable
@alexe693 I discovered what vdroop was a good while back. I rarely have BSODs and I recently ran a memtest and I saw 1 error.
Do you think the problem is because I don't have my ram voltages set right? I am hoping it is my noobish overclock that is causing the problem and not actually the ram.
@djkub1 usually keep your ram voltage settings to what the package tells you to set it at. I never overclock my ram just because its already pretty fast (ddr3 1600) and if i do i tighten up the timings instead of raising the speed. I would try restoring your ram to its default settings and run a memtest that will most likely tell you if its defective or not
Hey mate! Have you tried overclocking it a bit more? I'd go for a slightly different setup there. CPU multi [8.0], FSB Strap to NB [400], FSB freq [500], PCI-e [100], DRAM [DDR2-1000], your RAM timings are OK, DRAM SRC [Enabled], Transaction Booser [Enabled], Boost Level [0], CPU VCC [1.46]~[1.47] for C0 stepping and [1.35]~[1.40] for E0, CPU PLL [1.50], FSB Termination [1.40], DRAM Vcc [2.10], NB Vcc [1.55], SB Vcc is OK, Clock Overcrg [1.0], LLC is OK, both GTL Ref Voltages below at [x0.61]
Spread spectrums should be [Disabled], so you got them right, also the CPU and NB clock skews should be set to [Normal]. At least this is my setup on a P5K Premium with a E6300 (the latest Wolfdale-2M) running @ 4GHz sharp. I also had an E8400 C0 running on a Rampage Formula with similar settings. In fact, first I got to overclock the E8400 to 4.125GHz on the Rampage, then put in about the same values in the P5K BIOS (this one having significantly less options though) for the E6300 and there! :)
Can you try that and let me know how it works out for ya? I'd be more than glad to learn that it runs like charm. Should run seemingly faster than this current setup too, especially when it comes down to RAM operation. Oh, if your E8400 is of the E0 stepping, you could go a little loose on that multiplier. =) I nailed mine down to 8.0 because of my cores being a crappy rev C0 and it took them 1.45V for real to get to 4.125GHz. You should need way less juice for an E0.
I just started overclocking my cpu a couple of days ago I also have an e8400 at 4.ghz. Everything is stable but what concerns me is that I have a 550 watts power supply which seems kind of low. Just want to ask you how many watts is your power supply?
Hello friend, what use ((virtualizaton technology support)) in the processor does not have this difference? else it supports well in my motherboard Asus P5GC-MX/1333?
Seems a bit high I run 3.6ghz on this chip with 1.192v under load and 1.200v idle. Too much volts can be bad as well and set your vcore manually it must be on auto now.
What are your idle temps.? I have this at the stock settings with the Zalman 9700 cooler plus Arctic Sliver 5 and my idle temps. are about 40 celsius.
Mine are about 40-41c at 1.368v and 4ghz speeds. Stock is about same at 39c. Load is where things count my load at stock is like 44-45c and at 4ghz its like 52-56c depends on ambient.
Very nice, I might just try out your overclock. I've had problems with video performance when overclocking with this board. Increasing the Northbridge voltage to 1.40v was necessary to bring the PCIe bus back up to 16x, but game framerates were about cut in half regardless. I've tried 3.2, 3.4, 3.6, 3.8, and 4.0 GHz with the same problem. I've heard there are FSB "holes" with this board, which can possibly cause this problem if the FSB is set within these ranges. Anyway, thanks for sharing!
Got around to updating my BIOS from 0906 to the latest 1202, and that solved my problem. It seemed stable enough, but temps of 60c under load kept me from running Prime95 for very long. I'll get a good Zalman cooler before I try again I think.
due to variable vdroop between different motherboards and other factors you shouldnt apply these settings directly. instead do it the right way and gradually increase your overclock, atleast then you will get a basic idea of how to overclock yourself.
i can OC e8400 3.0ghz @4.0ghz On air Cooling using cooler ZALMAN CNPS9700 LED 110mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler and my mobo is ASUS P5Q Pro LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard
I think you give a little more GHZ, but give more GHZ on a P35 motherboard with air cooling hmmm... I think it is difficult, but you're in a good way;)
i got the E8400 and the P5N-E SLI motherboard and when it boots up it says: unknown CPU detected BIOS updated need to unleash the full potentional and then down the bottem it says: F1 to continue or F9(i think) to enter BIOS. but other than that everythings else is fine, how do i fix my problem??
Wow you have really learned a lot recently eh? Tons of tweaking options on that board compared to what I'm used to anyway! I never knew you could change the voltage on the NB and SB for example!
how do you open the bios anyway

Man 1.46v ,, dam thats High , the wife's 8400 CO does4.0 @ 1,27 or 1.35
My 8400EO does it @ 1.27 and my E8500 EO 4.0 @ 1.25v
so you shouldnt need that much for stable clock

@JollySwagman2006 - well, i needed 1.5 V for the cpu @ 4.5 GHz - no harm at all with the right cooling ;)

@JollySwagman2006 he said that his vdroop brings it down to like 1.3 or something
