  • It's the politicians (selectoboard) responsibility to ensure the safety of its citizens and to make sure the department is running as efficiently as possible. I'd say they've done a shitty job and let Goodell make a career out of his volunteer position. After all, he left work 5 towns away to respond to a non emergent call putting many people in danger. His exact wores were that he crossed 5 towns, 2 counties in 11 minutes. Let's focus people on the real issues.

  • Politicians? None of their business? Does anyone out there know how this really works? The Etna Fire Department budget was 3 times the amount of any town their size and double all the neigboring towns considering the population. If these guys truly did their jobs and saved houses and lives in their own towns, they'd be running once every couple of weeks instead of every night.

  • Hey Dipshit? Can you come clean with these innocent people you're posting to? Noone is chatting about overthrowing anybody. Don't be such a moron. Getting rid of you was the best thing this town has ever done. My God, have a little bit of respect for the real firefighters who are passionate about what they do and stop glorifying your outrageous behavior. You're an absolute idiot.

  • Mr. Goodell has shut out the citizens of Etna from commenting on his videos unless they were a part of his madness.

  • y do u comment on ur own videos

  • Looks like we've gone another month without incident. Firefighters and rescue personnel were there when called upon. They've turned in to a reliable safe entity that the town can be proud of. Thanks for bringing these issues to light Goodell, you did the town a HUGE favor. I look forward to the committee re-convening in April to discuss progress. Congratulations to all that were involved, you've done a great job in bringing pride and respect back to the department. You are appreciated!!!

  • + 1

  • By the way, I was told that the new department Chief was able to slash 20% of its budget and begin reducing costs while adding new members and working with the community. Congrats to the FD!

  • The committee took 15-20 great ideas and changes they'd like to see in the current setup to the town council. The Town Manager will be meeting with the committee (comprised of community members and members of the FD) in April to discuss the implenation of those idea. Apparently, most of the ideas have already been put into effect. No dangerous driving, fewer calls to other communities who really weren't in need of assistance and better control for the Fire Chief to make appropriate decisions.

  • Accuracy - The town did in fact secure complete coverage from neighboring Newport and Carmel before shutting the doors to the Etna Department. Nothing illegal. This gave the citizens an opportunity to voice their concerns and bring light to all of the inappropriate activities of the Fire Chief. A week later the department was re-opened and a committee was formed to review current policies and procedures.

  • From a misinformed bystander who was not respected enough to be given accurate informaiton ---

hondo1188 (2 hours ago) hold on a second. You're telling me they'd rather not have firefighters than have people recognize the town in a youtube video?? HOLY... What if one of their homes caught on fire? lunacy.

  • If it cannot be constructively but done destructively, I have to agree. Should you change your mind, gather your thoughts and convey them respectably, I welcome your opinion and the opportunity to discuss this fascinating issue.

  • And Sir, if you want to have some real dialogue and intersting perspective about the issues, make me and others understand with intelligent posts. It has nothing to do with fat people and those comments themselves belittle your integrity or your ability to have a valid conversation. We can certainly agree to disagree but you have to respect the issues before you can tackle them. Have a great day and i look forward to your posts!

  • Being a dedicated volunteer firefighter is a wonderful, respectable, noble undertaking. However, defying orders and putting other lives in danger is not respectable. Being disrespectful to other fire chiefs who ask you not to film accidents and to defy those wishes because you are in your POV is a power trip. Above and beyond this, allegations of sexual harrassment and drinking on the job should have been automatic dismissal of this goofball. That's where the town council messed up BIG TIME!

  • I couldn't agree with you more. He was breaking laws, not to mention being insubordinate.

  • Well,it's been a couple months now that the town is without the over-sensationalizing of Goodell. The sirens are quiet, the FD is protecting its citizens and everyone can sleep at night. A happy ending to a story about a man who needed to be exposed before he hurt someone. Congrats to the Town Manager and council for doing the right thing.

  • Has anyone noticed that on Mr. Goodell's post he's getting no local support? Again, the only ones commenting are the innocent folks who don't know Mr. Goodell like we know Mr. Goodell and would like to think he was a good honest non-drinking on the job, non-sexual harrassing Fire Chief.

  • Goodell is still filtering the responses posted on his video and won't let these poor souls know what the real problem was - HIM!! No more needless emergency responses and out of town trips. With gas expected to hit $4 per gallon, looks like we'll be saving a lot of money and wear and tear on our vehicles. Finally, some common sense!!

  • Goodell: "Abuse by an Etna based cyber-stalker has forced me to moderate the comments. Your thoughts are important, and I apologize for any inconvenience." TRANSLATION: I'm only posting the comments of innocent bystanders who haven't heard the whole truth. To those that I cannot bullshit - Your thoughts really aren't that important.

  • To refer to Etna as a "city" is a bit inaccurate.Etna is actually a small town with a little over 1000 residents whose FD's primary function is to serve its own residents. If duty calls and a neighboring town is in need of additional help because of a blazing fire Etna should be there. This would occur about 3 or 4 times a year and not 50 times for FD and 75 times for EMS.

  • Apparently, the number of calls responded to has gone down significantly. Was there really a need to travel across 2 counties and 5 towns to get to the scene endangering the lives of others. I'm surprised he posted the video in question again. Did you see him pass that big truck around the corner? So, was this his personal mission that day? If so, why is Etna's name posted all over it?

  • I don't think Goodell got the validation he was looking for. What makes this guy think what he did then and is doing now is the "right" thing? This fire dept. will be much better off. Certainly the towns residents will be. The Board and Manager made the right choices.

  • The majority of the community now understands that Mr. Goodell was unsafe and are working with the Fire Department to build a long lasting relationship.

  • It certainly wasn't the intent to make this look like Etna. This is in San Diego. I had to post some sort of video so I could have and area for ALL comments to be posted. Mr. Goodell pulled the comments from his video because he didn't want people to know the truth.
