I wouldn't say this is better than the original, they have the same emotion to them. It sounds like something Demons and Wizards would put as a bonus song. Don't get me wrong this is absolutely amazing, but trying to say one is better than the other degrades the beauty of both. I would love to see her play with some of the famous European metal bands that pride themselves on beautiful composition. She very clearly is a musical goddess.

the answer is to listen to the original first. it's usually pretty good. otherwise she wouldn't be covering it. That way, you can enjoy the original, and then enjoy her version even more because, as you mention, it's usually better, but the original won't have been ruined by hearing the better version first. works for me.

However, similarities between Iced Earth and Demons and wizards are trivial and utterly superficial. You can't teach anyone anything considering these two bands so - stop trying. also, type List of power metal bands and see.
