  • that was wonderful longlive steampunk :)

  • Comment removed

  • does steampunk mean you cant belive in god?

  • Comment removed

  • @wtfPR00 No, you still believe in God, though some in all demographics believe in many things or don't believe in anything.

  • steampunk in two words: bioshock infinite

  • What a bunch of geek nerdlingers. (I'd fit right in!) Where can I get a Steampunk girl like the one @ 2:14? People are always wondering why I like collecting "junk".

  • bruning man is much better then this gay crap

  • Steampunk rulz. Gonna make some more steampunk-themed paintings. Hopefully there's a market for them cause they're really cool to paint :)

  • So steampunk is old things enfused with mondern technology? So does the movie "Treasure Planet" have steampunk ideas?

  • @Pductions A little bit but not quite

  • this is not very steampunk at all, it needs to be more authentic and less plastic

  • Comment removed

  • Wtf is that bitch doing at 2:37

  • @Erebus37 It appears that she's attempting to belly dance by way of the least amount of physical exertion. In essence, she's sort of jell-o-jiggling in slow motion....only....jell-o is delicious, this is clearly not.

  • @Erebus37 devouring small children

  • @nightshift10000 i agree, steampunk and post apocolyptic are both cool

  • My two Favorite Genre's Cyberpunk & Steampunk, well and the third is Post-Apocalyptic.

  • Never heard the term "steampunk" until recently and it may have taken off in the '90's as the narrator says, but look at the '65 to '69 TV show "Wild Wild West" and you'll see lots of "steampunk", so, give Michael Garrison some credit for it.

  • It sounds like billy connolly is singing xD

  • @TheStuartWallace

nope. Eddie izzard. the songs from the movie "across the universe"

  • 1 word: Epic.

  • BEATLES MUSIC!!!!!!! aaaaweeeeeeeeeeyeaaaaahhhhhh

  • yay DataMancer :D

  • yeah so steampunk is really sience finction mechanisms working on steam heat and stuff :D

  • way back at the time of the dinosours

    in the early 90's

  • is my earphone broke?

  • The real nightmare is the end of the video with the ugly painting and the whole artificial intelligence bit, not Steampunk at all.

  • @Humbertusmarius i think the artificial intelligence thing was a reason to mention that "gay" inventor and segway into a mild promotion of gay rights. That is the problem with LBGT, they take a cause, culture, work enviroment etc and push their "lifestyle" into it. Why can't they just let people enjoy hobbies and pastimes and save their LBGT doctrine for politicians and political conventions. It's going to the point now hearing about LBGT rights is getting old and they are just becoming whiners.

  • @HalfLifeAMD. You said it my friend, they had to bring their agenda into it. Now that you mention it, I felt the whole AI "sexually inverted" inventor story was completely out of place. I really like Steampunk novels and aesthetics, and will try to forget I ever saw this video.

  • @HalfLifeAMD Oh, it's ok. We just whine for the hell of it now. All that prejudice shit is gone. It's not like we get verbally abused, beaten up or killed for it now, is i.... oh hang on

  • @irkibby it is pretty much gone. Cases of "gay" beatings and murders are statistically insignificant now a days. Also, food for thought. If one were to look at canadian stats for "gays" being beaten it's usually from another gay person. Males tend to get violent towards each other during a "lovers spat". As for verbal abuse i would say that is pretty much equal with the rest of the groups across the board. Come out from under your rainbow flag and grow a thick skin like the rest of the world.

  • @HalfLifeAMD If only the same were true for LGBT people across the rest of the world. We'll keep making a noise for them.

  • LOL @ the fat 'cheerleader' 0:49

So from what the woman explains, this is what life would be like 'IF' people had just stuck to inventing shit that doesn't work and is completely impractical. Awesome!

  • huh... thats dumb...

  • @trenttompkins why is it dumb? It actually sounds like a cool concept. If tech advanced back then thats what it would look like based on the resources of that day. I don't understand the whole political human rights crap the painter was speaking of but I think the 'style' is kind of exciting.

  • @trenttompkins While I myself don't like all aspects of steampunk, I find the ideas of this sort of neo-victorianism to be very interesting.

  • Wait, so Full Metal Alchemist is STEAMPUNK?

  • So...Steampunk is the thing of nightmares?

  • How could you not like steampunk technology.

  • That was the palest bellydancer I've ever seen

  • i still dont get what it is and the music scares me

  • @TommyJDoherty718 it really can't be explained. if you want to experience it, dive in, go to the source.

  • D.u.m.b!!!!!!!

  • Steampunk = Wild wild west

Pretty much everything that the bad guy had haha

  • Whatever exactly is or is not steampunk, it is wonderful that people are able to express themselvs and bridge many eras of time with art and science, asthetically this is one of the most gorgous styles or art, the genious behind it is amazing.

  • How is this steampunk?

  • "Way back in the time of the dinosaurs in the early 90's..." XD

  • Up until about 1:40 I had no idea how muffin costumes and R2D2 could be related, but for some reason it all reminded me of the original Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory.

  • @BetaCircuit Were you really unable to tell that I was joking?

  • The Emo kids all watched Newsies.

  • i wont that whipcream hat :3

  • I seriously thought steampunk was an anime since its always on cosplay sites :l

  • steam punk...the new revolution :D

  • Love Steampunk only found it recently, I work on a Steam railway, and always wondered what the full potential of Victorian Engineering was with modern technology/development. Steampunk seems about it. I do personally prefer the functional inventions over the aesthetic designs

  • @MrV6sport Well, science fiction set in the Victorian age. So, all materials and such are old fashioned, that means no plastic or anything like that.

  • @MrV6sport No, c3po maybe, not not any of the r2 types.

  • yay gay person died. he he he.

  • where does everyone find those vests... I love these styles but It is impossible to find anything for those who can't make anything ahah

  • @TheeMaxDean Tried ebay?

  • @Muso992 Yeah.. Haha I was just wondering if there was a store to get like the vests or anything like that P:

  • @TheeMaxDean I got my vest at JCpenny I believe. Also Men's warehouse has nice vests and any formal clothing store really.

  • muzica tiganeasca OMG

  • Kialei, yeah, The Wild, Wild West was very much "steampunk" long before the term even existed! Even though the writers probably weren't thinking, "Wow, this stuff is gonna be real 'steampunk' in few decades, but voila, it is! That show was both ahead and behind of its time.

  • What about the Wild Wild West during the 60's? Wasn't that Steam Punk?

  • 2:37 I think she try's a belly dance? HIHIHI.....OWWW....AHHH

  • her voice is awful

  • humm the wild wild west

  • it seems like steampunk could seriously take over a whole decade if half the people didn't dork out on it to much. just saying

  • Wow Steampunk is Victorian age with 1950 gadgets?

    Very original

  • Jabba from Star Wars moving his belly on 2:37

  • i wish my first car was a cupcake!

  • Ths version on Mr Kite makes me aug so hard xD

  • Eddie Izzard is my God.

  • Nothing says 'steampunk' quite like oversized hats made to resemble whipped cream and cherries 1:23

  • 2:37 wth?

  • what is this kind of song called?

  • time of the dinosaurs? lol.

  • WHATS THE SONG NAME ?!

  • @MRK00ProductionZ Across the Universe - Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite sung by Eddie izzard, cover of the song by the beetle with the same name,

  • @MrKevstro thanks

  • @MRK00ProductionZ its the beatles covered

  • I like brass

  • Steamspunk :o)

  • infact alot of it is just victorian fashion

  • The opening montage isnt steampunk

  • You guys have inspired me in a time of great depression and sadness. You represent me, as I was and want to be again. You are too far away for a lunch hour trip across town. But I now know what was previously unknown, and this video opened the closed door that was once the door to my mind. I have the tools and skills, the knowledge and the ability, but nothing mattered. I think and sleep and wonder why me. Why me?

  • American accents. Rather uncultured.

  • wtf this isn't steampunk

  • very cool

  • can you people pronounce 'jules' like it's suppose to be pronounce? and that's not the american english way...

  • cool !!! Let it all hang out and be yourself that is all that matters! This world has so much stress form day to day life. We need an escape!

  • so wierd man

  • Eddie Izzard= Win!

  • Those cupcakes rolling around can be a Diabetic's nightmare...

  • honestly. cyberpunk kicks the shit out of steampunk.

  • Haha, I love Eddie Izzard!

  • R2D2 is not steam punk

  • @aqinthe nope- but I have seen a steampunk version!

  • @DJelectfire I would love to see a steampunk version of R2D2. Actually I would like to see all the steampunk versions of all the Stars Wars characters.

  • @aqinthe neither are toy dinosaurs

  • @hpland12 Or giant inflatable ducks. Comeone steampunks don't sell out!

  • @aqinthe I LOVE U, my Star Trek nerd! *vulcan mind meld kisses*

  • @genxxxersize Did you give me a thumbs up? I hope that monkeys eat your face.

  • @aqinthe Didn't you see R2D2 blow off some steam? That obviously makes him steam punk.

  • @TheGNUfan Good point, but I would counter that steam alone does not make steam punk.

  • @aqinthe Look up steampunk r2d2 on google..

  • I did and they look totally different. They didn't even try to make this R2D2 steampunk. I'm outraged. lol You can't mix Star Wars and Steampunk. It's worse than using wire hangers.

  • @aqinthe lol, agreed

  • @aqinthe Use your imagination boy!

Belive and it shall be steampunk.

  • @aqinthe how do you know..did you ask him?

  • @HalfLifeAMD I asked Obi one Kenobi.

  • @aqinthe If R2D2 came without the beeping and blooping and lights it would be steampunk. It's legs would be powerd by steam, and his gadgets by clockwork, and he wouldn't be animated what so ever.

  • @aqinthe I just thought of one. Like the first Iron Man that Tony Stark made in the cave (in the movie), before Jarvis was ever integrated into it's system. That is a perfect example of steampunk do it yourself-ness.

  • @Ztrigg Yes, that would be a good example of steampunk. R2D2 could be steampunk, just the one in this video isn't.

  • I think my first sighting of steampunks was out at Burning Man, when the rolling Victorian steam house came rolling into view. But there was something very familiar about it. I think it kind of goes back to when I was a kid and saw the movie Oliver at the cinema. The wardrobe in that film was indeed steampunk... I think the steampunk movement is actually quite cinematic, it's like real life, but with a better art director.

New year's eve in Bisbee, AZ, the theme is SteamPunk. HM, artcarworld

  • this is some really cool stuff. might check some more out.

  • Yeah steampunk is cool. You don't have to look like a freak though. I'm pretty much happy going out in aviator goggles and clothes that sort of fit the part.

  • I have a 19th C crossbow --never thought to wear it though... hmmm might be good with the Antique fingerless bird stamped bone leather gloves I made with black french lace wrist trim.

  • @Nedplease How the **** do they look like gypsys? wtf?..

  • It's called a see-through ATX tower.

  • that bicycle with the man is actually historically accurate.. that thing was patented around that time. and waddayaknow it was powered by steam and from around that era too. wish i could provide a link

  • are there any towns or villages today that are steampunk? just wondering.

  • Studio Ghibli has done great steampunk animation.

  • @Idtelos Agreed. Also, check out (suprisingly) the movie Steam Boy. Otomo did the script, so its superb.

  • Hmm, how about we take this to an even BIGGER extreme?

    ...Stonepunk, cavemen airships. B)

  • @Densetsu004

yes or how about dinopunk or before that :p

but seriously it has some cool stuff, but those conventions *shiver* make me wanna kill ppl :s

  • @Densetsu004 Somewhat like the Flintstones?

  • @Densetsu004 i think thats called the flintstones

  • @Densetsu004 … it actually exists! It is called Earthdawn, (a Shadowrun crossover world).

  • @Densetsu004 see the flintstones

  • @Densetsu004 you mean like the flintstones ?

  • Hang in there. . .

The Steampunk explanation starts at 1:40.

Maker's Faire is a broad spectrum convention of tinkerers, with steampunk folks representing a small subset.

  • @rmcdaniel423 ur comment lends so much insight to this video. i'm not being sarcastic

  • Where is this convention at ?????

  • i wish britain was totally steampunk

  • Um... Gorillas and muffins? o___o; Just wondering about that and the giant duck, too...

  • Steampunk. It's a cool name. Some of this stuff is kinda sorta neat... but not by much...

Take a phone and just take the plastic casing off and tack it to a piece of wood, it's steampunk?

    Victorian clothing + welder's goggles = Steampunk?

I dunno, it just seems so uninspired or unimaginative to me...

Could someone who likes this stuff explain it to me?

And where the fuck do muffin go-karts and gypsies come in to this?

  • @NULLcHiLD27 ok, the muffins were awesome, first off. the gypsies were a little out there, but in actuality were a big part of the Steam Era/Victorian culture. to be perfectly honest, the fashon designs are really not much different from regular Victorian clothing simply because that IS the fashion of the time, with simply a bit more metal thrown in for looks. as a fan, this video didn't say what steampunk is. it's really more the emotional part that's important. (rest in second comment)

  • @NULLcHiLD27 the emotions are a cross between the old west, pirates, and romanticised Victorian high class. its in the hard, dangerous work of building the machines. the glory of a majestic steam-powered airship flying across the plains or through a floating city. it's the inventors, the gunmen, the air pirates, the snooty aristocrats, and the workmen, pilots, mechanics. if you can't or don't understand it, that's why you aren't a fan. if you can, you go nuts over it. THAT is steampunk.

  • @myMasterservant So basically it's just about every other future (or Final Fantasy 8), just with steam? and the muffins were not awesome...

  • @NULLcHiLD27 but the muffins WERE awesome! and it's really a "how it could've been" instead of "how it might be". it follows the time track of if we had stayed using steam power for everything. but it can be futuristic, i guess, but the steam is the whole driving force behind the civilization. so long as you have the steam, you're pretty much good.

  • Looks fun-like a Scarborough Fair for geeks!

  • needs the original benifit for mr.kite, by the beatlees

  • Diamond Age? Not remotely steampunk. You mean The Difference Engine.

  • how does this explain anything about steampunk?

  • @lg3ndOneill ... It explained the origins of it very clearly, and interviewed several people who are steampunk, and their thoughts on it.

  • so does steampunking mean like making something look lik emetal sometimes?? could someone plz explain this to me better its quite interesting!

  • @chanarama98

It seems on the video that it´s people likeing to make thing look old.

That may be one direction, but I myself belong to direction what wants to make present days things old ways or looking old. Like the keyboard.

That motorcycle is wannabe as I see it. It has fancy covers on it but it´s not steam powered.

Direction I belong wants to make a really steam powered motorcycle with boilers etc.

I´we been sketching a steam powered trike cause it´s large enough to have boiler and all.

  • @felixchaus dude, awesome. you know, you should basically make a mini train, pistons and all. i'd love to see the sketches you have tho!

  • @myMasterservant There are few mini steamtrains in Finland.

Trike is on point where I´m looking for materials and frame styles.

I´we found really good information about piston valves and now I´we have to figure out how or where to make them. And where to find sylinders.

Been thinking to put V shaped steamengine on front and from there to normal cars drivetrain, and over the rear axle I´ll put tender and boiler so it can be fed on the trike while driving.

For backup I think I´ll add gas burner.

  • @felixchaus HOMG you are awesome. sigh... you have no idea how many times i wish i had access to a metalworks shop.... u kno, i did a review of a game called Damnnation, and they use steam motorcycles. the whole piston system is EXACTLY like a train, and the cylindars and pistons actually attach to the back wheel, tho.... i guess that would only work for a two wheel cycle, not a three wheel. i wish you SO MUCH LUCK! and if you do make some, send me a link cuz i will fucking buy one!!!

  • is this eddie izzard?

  • @ilovecake866 yep. from the movie Across the Universe.

  • steampunk is an individual envisionment of an alterd future according to the perspective of a patron of the victorian era (or that was the definition when the cocept of the genre was originally created by authors of the victorian era)

but of course given the fact that to most people the genre is kind of vage and that it is 2010 the line between past and future is often not very fine but the original definition of the genre remains unchanged (future to a victorian, but unknown to a modern)

  • Pardon my ignorance but what is steam punk? o.O

  • @zOmBiEsaRePiMp watch the video and find out -_-

  • @WilliamBroichYAY

fuck you i was just wondering.

maybe i didnt feel like watching the video.
