I read the latest Rolling stone 100 Guitarists and JHS is not there of course. As one stated earlier, he is much underrated. I know he is there with likes of Lindsey Buckingham, but what the hell. All I have been doing for the last three months is listening to this video and still find it entertaining. Great job...Pretenders!
Are there any more videos from this concert? I remember listening to it on a broadcast when I was in Ann Arbor, and it was brilliant. They played "Birds In Paradise", "Louie Louie" and anything else you could want. I only liked the original line-up. Everyone slathers over Chrissie Hynde, but personally i never thought she was that great without this particular line-up. The total was so much greater than the sum of the parts.
Thanks for the update. I was recalling a time when I was laying on the beach in LaJoya, CA. and read the artical about such tragidies in Rolling Stone. This was some time ago but time in my life I remember none the less. I always wondered about the original band and this video was a wonderful comeback.
"What yer gonna do about " with Steve Jones guesting (Sex Pistols fame) & "stop your sobbing" was (is). I seem to remember this concert being on the BBC during 1980, but we didnt have a recorder is those days! This vid is also on the 2005 5 cd set collection which covers live shows from all years. Definetely Pretenders best live sound...........
Wow, is all I can say. Nothing like screaming sexy guitar licks. Such a shame to see such a tallent leave us at such a young life. Both the base player and guitarist died within a week of each other due to drug overdose. Yes, Chrissy is the artist and she has managed to have a very successful career, but to think of the music this origainal line up could have given us can only be imagined. Love James...so underated has been said, at least we get to enjoy what we got!
I agree with you, I also think that this post was one of the Pretenders best sounding shows, and certainly Jimmy performance sounded at his best in "up the neck" even if the song ended a bit abruptly compared to normal live shows.

@mgaab11
Jimmy and Pete died a year apart.
Pete was kicked out of the band for taking drugs. Jimmy died the next day. Pete died a year later in his bath.
