Please excuse my name( its a back up account). But nutnfancy what gun would you recommend for beginning hunters? I was thinking of getting a mosin nagant but my Grandfather prefers modern HUNTING weapons, What modern hunting weapons do you recommend? Please don't put anything military based. Thanks!
About six months ago I bought a used Winchester 1300 speed pump for $150. It has the walnut stock and forehand & 28" barrel but I'm replacing it with a 22" rifled sighted barrel. Over all... this gun is fantastic. I've put about 500 rounds through it with no issues... but, my firing pin broke. Nothing more than my fault, giving i practiced "speed pumping' with no shells in it. The firing pin is only $20, so i could give a fuck less. It never jams but i clean mine regularly. I love this gun!

sxp is fucking sweet! ive got a 28" black shadow and i can hit targets with slugs at 100 yards with ease. No joke. great, great gun! almost no recoil, firm fast pump, and crome barrel for under 500. cant go wrong. I use to be a 870 and the sxp blows the pants of it!
@jmrodz80 im not really sure...i know you can buy it in different models. i bought the black shadow model wich is 28". as for different barrels i doubt it... because it's a fairly new model it will be a while before you can find any parts/atachements...even scope/red dots. but other than that i have to say it's an amazing shotgun!
@flopflop456 probably because of the limitations of the microphone on the camera. since firearms are so loud, the sound get's capped off at a certain level.

i have a 1300 defender when we got it it had the pistol grip no stock since then ive added a top folding stock and front pistol grip it nice every body thats ever put a shell through it loves these are really well made shotguns and like you said you have to man up when shooting it i usually leave the stock folded so i get less recoil i can pump it all the way and so i can lead the target a bit easier
I disagree with the 0-25 yard range. I would say buckshot is perfectly effective out to 25 yards and then some. And even a cylinder bore can accurately get slugs out to a man size target at 100 yards with a little practice. Anything under 100 yards, shotgun is king. Other than that, great review Nutn!

the thing i love about my 1300. I took mine out shooting today and had a goofy user error when loading. I poped a shell in the tube and it jumped back on top of the loading door thing. it was a jam that i cant describe other than to tell you that I had to remove the trigger to get the shell out, I looked around and i had left my tool kit at the car about a half mile away. I was able to take the trigger assembly out with a key on my keychain. any smaller twig would have worked. love this gun!
All this information and technique is pretty much useless in the real world. Its funny how a year or two in the military can brainwash a person to this effect

Tact junkies are cool, but get annoying. They consider the m1300 a tactical shotgun because of the short barrel......its really old brother, the model 12, does the same slam fire with the slide, and more accurate cause of the length of the barrel. If i was over seas.......id want accuracy and tight groupings. Doesn't look like he's in CQB.
I recently bought a Winchester 1300 Defender and I am very pleased with it. I had to modify the side saddle so it would co-exist with a picatinny rail adapter, but it turned out great. I did a video on it, in case you are interested. Take care & thank you for the great field test!
Next time you shoot milk jugs or any other white/clear target in the snow, can you spray paint them a neon color or black? Orange might not be the best idea since hunting vests are orange. But if you are at a strictly range area, orange or red would be great.
In my Winchester 97 clone I only have 5 in the tube and 1 in the chamber. So I'm always reloading to stay topped off, and when I'm not reloading, I'm getting ready to be reloading.
Nutn, I know you really love the 1300, but what do you think of the SPAS-12? In my personal experience, I've found it to be extremely reliable with a very high rate of fire thanks to the combination of semi-auto and pump. I, however, have not personally owned or even fired a 1300, so I am afraid that I cannot personally compare it to the SPAS-12 (this is where you and your companions come in.)
Nutn, this vid reminded me that you should most definitely look into those body mounted camera supports, dude! It will give you a great first person view, more stable shooting since no one has to be holding it much and you can do solo vids like this much easier( tripods are great though but one of those supports would be a great addition). Would work wonders with your hiking/backpacking adventures too. You'd have to look into the weight of them but I'm guessing they're not too bad there

@ireallydontcare4u They refer to different things. Smooth bore means no rifling, the spiral groves that grab a bullet and make it spin, look it up if that's not clear. Cylinder bore refers to the fact that there is little or no "choke" or restriction at the muzzle of the shotgun. Choke's with more restriction condense your shot pattern for longer range shooting, but cyclinder bore with no restriction is used in combat shotguns so that you can shoot slugs and buckshot safely. Hope this helps.
I was able to shoot faster with a Winchester 12 that i used to have. All you had to do was hold the trigger back while you pumped the action. Almost saunded like full auto.

nutn..... love your videos and insight. HATE the Serpa... very bad idea. Trigger finger is TRIGGER finger, not multi-task while under duress finger. Real bad idea to train to engage trigger finger during draw stroke when actuating the trigger itself is the next step. Way to easy to screw up and ND. I am SURE you have addressed this and train to prevent it, BUT Murphy loves this form of complication.
I have a 1300 defender and when I shoot rapid the rounds mis feed. I do not know if I am short stroking the slide. Did you ever have that problem with your 1300?

Love the 1300..I use some gefilte fish in a couple of ziplocs at the buttstock ...makes a great recoil pad and a nice snack afterwards

is cylinder bore the same as smooth bore?

@ireallydontcare4u They refer to different things. Smooth bore means no rifling, the spiral groves that grab a bullet and make it spin, look it up if that's not clear. Cylinder bore refers to the fact that there is little or no "choke" or restriction at the muzzle of the shotgun. Choke's with more restriction condense your shot pattern for longer range shooting, but cyclinder bore with no restriction is used in combat shotguns so that you can shoot slugs and buckshot safely. Hope this helps.

I was able to shoot faster with a Winchester 12 that i used to have. All you had to do was hold the trigger back while you pumped the action. Almost saunded like full auto.

nutn..... love your videos and insight. HATE the Serpa... very bad idea. Trigger finger is TRIGGER finger, not multi-task while under duress finger. Real bad idea to train to engage trigger finger during draw stroke when actuating the trigger itself is the next step. Way to easy to screw up and ND. I am SURE you have addressed this and train to prevent it, BUT Murphy loves this form of complication.

I have a 1300 defender and when I shoot rapid the rounds mis feed. I do not know if I am short stroking the slide. Did you ever have that problem with your 1300?
