@rumpwrestler what's your problem? you like Chereau and hooker Brunhildes with ghetto sets? No thank you--I'll take the magic over the crime anyday---Bring back this producion--best of all time. The set/costumes matched the mythos of the libretto/music/and W.'s intentions.
It sure looks amazing. The detail is unbelievable. I wish I could have seen it. The Met though will have new sets for it, we'll see how they do, but it will take a lot to beat this.
So, yousent your hand raised catspaw to kill off old Fafnir and get the gold! And your reason for hanging around the cave until weeds have grown on you? Perhaps you are after more than mere gold yourself! And who was that wolfish person who left such an expression on you? Here he comes - hide!
Oh, wonderful stepson! I see you have killed the really evil dragon. Look, I made a special drink to cool your heart after that hot work. Drink up, then we'll take all the gold home, yes, dear boy?.
Thank you for this posting. I think it's neat that Dawn Upshaw is singing in a Wagner opera the same period of time she did 4 Mozart operas, also at the Met. if my memory is correct this is part of the Ring cycle that was done at the Met in 1991. Am I correct on that? Dawn Upshaw is my Songbird, just as Jenny Lind was known as the Swedish Nightingale. Isn't is great that Dawn has survived breast cancer and is involved with singing and singers again?
Yes, this is the met's famous '91 production of the Ring, which ended up winning a number of awards. I think Upshaw is too underrated, she has a unique and gorgeous bright voice.
I heard her in recital in 2006. She appeared in a simple sun dress and flats..sang a program of modern rep...the earliest composer was Stephen Foster. IMHO, she may be the greatest recitalist who is still actively singing. I was trying to be technical during her recital..watching her breath etc..but it was impossible to do so....she simply was too good and my technical side was subdued by the shear beauty of her voice and presentation and I was blown away.
wow...never saw my uncle (my fathers bro) playing this role and never knew waht exactly he does when hes travelling for a few month around the world...i was very young then...its amazing to have a actor in my own family who play roles that are posted at youtube (alberich, thats my uncle :)
I'm very curious about this-- if someone would reply I'd really appreciate it. I'm really early in my study of voice, and the Wagner sterotype I've always been presented with is that it takes quite a large voice-- not a light one like Upshaw's...?
Heinz Zednik plays Mime perfectly-- just as he did in the Chereau production.

Dwarf is a very old Saxon word for:
Someone who looks like they've been sneezed on
Thanks Wikipedia!

Thanks for uploading this. Alberich and Mime's silly argument is one of my favorite sequences in "Siegfried".

Zednik and Wlaschiha have to be one of the greatest Mime/Alberich teams ever.
