  • ahhh....my two fave men apart from my sons....thanks for posting

  • nice version from ted neeley...but i guess lennon's version has more soul... really coming out from the heart of an ....abandoned (kid) if i may say....he really misses julia....his short term mother...

  • how fantastic is this??..beautiful!

  • Great, great voice.

  • Thankyou for posting this amazing song!! Love Ted Neeley... Loved this album and wore it out!!!

  • ted neeley looks like boromir

  • Beautifully sung by Ted! Thank you for posting this here. He was blessed from the beginning of his career until his retirement. He will trully be missed! God Bless you Ted and your sweet wife forever!-Stargazer4JC

  • what an AMAZING voice. My goodness.

  • Love Ted Neely, Jesus or no Jesus!

  • sing it Jesus!

  • best version ever . lennon would have loved it.

  • theres every chance he did!

  • Wow. What an incredibly fantastic and special and sensitive and beautiful and cool voice!!!

  • Ted is awesome!!! :0)

  • impressive - good as Lennon

  • I met him after seeing Jesus Christ Super Star and he is the sweetest person alive :D

  • Luckyyyyyy!!! I want to meet him sooo bad!!! Everyone says how wonderful he is.

  • Wow, love it. I know Ted is a legend for many , i wasn't a great fan of Gethsemane, preferred Balsamo's version, but this is just brilliant. Not heard Lennon doing this, now i've heard this 1 first, can't imagine Lennon doing it any better. But a beautiful song

    . Where is it from?

Are there any Neeley CD's with contempory stuff, other than the JCS tracks he's known for. Bx

  • Neeley's done a ton of obscure work that can be found if you do enough detective work. This song in particular is from 1974 A.D.

Both versions of Mother are stunning, I'd say Neeley has the edge on a technical basis but Lennon's is definitive. They both have a great, vulnerable sound to them. I'd say actually though that Lennon gave it more effort in the screamy ending.

  • thanks for the info. I do actually prefer Neeley's version to lennon's . But each to their own i guess. At least now i'm discovering another side to Ted, thank God for you tube. Cheers

  • @nunobits12 I saw Ted Neely play a pimp in one obscure movie. He has a Texas accent in real life. Haha

  • @nunobits12 It's a shame though eh? I was waiting because I know Just How Well Ted could scream. Shame, coulda been really awesome

But man does his voice sound smooth here

  • i like this version better what an angel voice

  • I'm Trying to find 1974 AD in mp3 and cant find it anywhere. Does anyone know where there is a torrent or even a site where I can buy it?

  • i Love this song... love this version, only wish he put in a little more 'power' at some part of it...

i mean, Lennon has a bit of a yell in his, and knowing what Neely is capable of, I think it is a shame he didn't take the opportunity

  • I just love Ted´s voice, is amazing

  • i was so loved up about this man in1973. i saw jesus christ superstar ten times. this is the first time ive seen him since then. nothing changes, does it. brilliant.

  • I posted a comment about this version four weeks ago. I listen to it everyday. I like it much better than Lennons.

  • i dont

but something they both capture is incredible vulnerability

a great song that cuts to the heart of the matter, i love both ted and lennon's recordings.

  • Well said my friend.

  • out of this world beautiful!

  • Great, awesome version!

  • I love this version of the song almost as much as I love Ted Neeley. :)

  • really beautiful

  • its fantastic isn't it

  • Oh, I hope this comes out on cd. Love, love it!! Thank you for posting it.

  • Incredibly beautifull! fabulous amazing!

  • Wow, kinda' weird at first until you get into it. Awesome!!!

  • ted sing that?????????? omg great great

  • THis is just i question but in your discribtion all it says is from 1974 A.D is that year the song came out or his birth yes because it couldnt be his birth year because he was in Jesus Christ Superstar in 1973. Just wondering not trying to be mean but i love his voice. And i love the movie

  • the year the album came out

    god bless!

  • Ted was born in 1943. :)

  • wow sounds like a whole different song, I like it!

  • He not only has an angel voice-he's the kindest man in the business.

  • tcbuff2456 ... that's it! He has the voice of an angel. Ethereal and beautiful.

  • Sweet, so, so sweet. Beautiful.

  • 4:30 omg so powerful and emotional. If anyone other than John Lennon could do this number, its Ted Neeley with his high range and control! Wonderful!

  • This will be rereleased soon.

  • Really? Where did you hear that?

  • Ciao, I'm an old fan of Ted Neeley's! How can I try to get this old album? it seems impossible! Thanks! Daniela from Rome

  • I have the full album. Amazing stuff, to bad his solo career never took off.
