  • Coin Song? Is that the actual name? I would have thought it was Darryl's Theme.

  • @NY1love Nah, this is "Coin Song," it plays in the flashback in Figaro castle when Edgar and Sabin remember just after their father died.

Darryl's theme is called "Epitaph" and it's another sad one.

  • Only these words were in my head.

''Childhood , Rest in Peace my good friend...''

  • nintendo, square enix, they are all like blah blah blha! Graphics graphocs BEtter graphcs! WHEN THE REAL MEANING TO THE BEST GAMES WERE THE STORY, CHARACTERS, AND MUSIC.

  • when i played this in my class today they were all like ow ugly i was like yea maybe it doesnt had much graphic but it has a story and you can feel the characters and its not just walking trough a lvl killing as many zombies mutations or aliance... i mean i think this is the second best game i ever played (first is breath of fire 3 also for the PSX) now that doesnt mean i like playing shooter's sometimes but it has to have some kind of story wich is realy bad made now aday's

  • the future of two brothers and a kingdom decided on the flip of a coin.....

  • @johnianflores if you think of it that way...

  • looks like kefka didn't like the video

  • This is amazing.

  • As the oldest of four brothers, I think Edgar really "gets" what being a big brother is all about. You sacrifice a lot to help your brothers, but you don't want them to know it. How many times have we let our little bros win at something just to see a smile on their faces? Of course, this coin flip would be too much sacrifice if he didn't truly fit as the King of Figaro. In the end, though, he does actually belong where he is, and all is right with the world.

  • Just hearing this makes me sad...but also in a good way, (not entirely making sense...)

Time to play FFVI yet again...

  • Ah, one of my favourite tunes ever. Love Sabin and Edgar's characters. I've beaten up this game first time just two months ago or so, but it made me almost cry so many times. Isn't it curious that old games like this can make someone feel so sad even (almost) 20 years after? Great, great game. My favourite one EVER. So full of meaning and wise advices (don't let your past sadden your present, for example). Thanks for sharing this. Going to see the rest of the list ;) (sorry for my English)

  • this whole game is saddening... why is it so sad???

  • @chrismstrshk Its not just sad its a Full of emotion masterpiece

  • When I was younger I never understood the significance in this scene, but it still moved me emotionally, mostly because of this music. Now that I am older I understand what is going on between Edgar and Sabin, and I respect this piece so much more. What an amazing song.

  • they used the same coin to trick setzer into giving them the blackjack

  • A double-headed coin? Edgar, you tricky swine!

  • beautiful piece. to make a light out of this, the beginning made me think of contra.

  • FF6 is a great example of a GOOD game. Most modern games nowdays are all about the graphics. Thats how people judge em.I hear my friends saying "Oh that games s*** cos the graphics suck" It's not all about that. What about gameplay. Character development. This gamemactualy made you feel for the characters. Probably the reason some people cried when Airis died in FF7. And probably why FF6 opera scene has been remade with actual instruments and actual people singing. That just shows how good it is

  • @tuzathedarknight FF6 was a good game, even if I did find it very overrated. Don't get me wrong...the first half was amazing. The second half was where I started to wish i was playing something else, though...the characters wrap up nicely enough and everything, I just wish it didn't feel like one giant-ass side quest.

  • I've played this game ever since I was 5 years old, and this game is still considered one of my favorites. Music that conveys raw emotion such as this doesn't seem to exist anymore. Every time I hear music from this game I will always feel a longing to go back in time and play this for the first time over and over again. Nostalgia at its finest.

  • This song are.. so sad.. in my opinion, this song is more sad then Forever Rachel.

  • you don't get scenes deep like this anymore with today's games focusing on just graphics

  • when I beat ff6 I always thank that edger was a joke but in the end he's still a damn good character

  • Saddest music and scene of the game was Forever Rachel. There isn't much sad about the brothers figaro because we know that now they are back together fighting kefka, not driven apart still by a coin-toss.

  • ranger this is sabins theme edgars theme is the figaro castle song while you travel around there....every character in FF III has their own theme

  • actually ranger this is sabins main theme edgars theme song is the song played while you travel thru figaro castle....i would know these things as sabin is my favorite character in the game and each character in the game has their own theme

  • Big brother, that coin....

  • Edgar gave up his childhood so his brother could have his....

Hence why Edgar hasn't grown up yet and is still an immature lech.

  • This song is amazing.

  • Edgar is a true brother. He sacrificed his own freedom just for the happiness of Sabin. One of the many reasons I highly respect Square and their mastery at crafting powerful stories for the Final Fantasy series. To be able to create such human characters with problems like us..I give huge amounts of kudos.

Ya know, being isolated from the rest of the world in a mechanical castle in the middle of a desert and all, it's no wonder Edgar became the perverted bastard we all love!

  • That is a sad song :(

  • I love this song. It delivers the mood of the situation perfectly.

  • i became sad when i hear this song... its just, when i hear it... i always ask myself if im doing the right thing in myself...

  • no, u're not doing the right thing

  • Wow what an epic moment in game history, the coin toss. I'm not gonna lie...this entire scene of the game made me choke up a little as a child lol

  • ah beutiful bliss of memories once again bestsnes a true classic. it saddens me that new gamers will never know or appreciate games such as these that music shows so much more emotion than words or shiny graphics could ever bring forth the gaming industry today is dying and they rather make quick bucks then take the step into unknown territory when a game could make or break you. i have a quote that describes game companies today "why make great when good sells better"

  • @piscespeter3

I was born in 96 and I appreciate classic video game music. Other gamers today care about graphics and if it's on xbox 360 or Ps3 and that shit. it doesn't matter, I personally love all video games and their music.

  • @DoctorWhoCenter2011 Same here, '95. I started from Gamecube on, but MAN! I should've been born 10 years earlier, it seems.

  • @f17coolplane I agree the best RPGs I've ever played are SNES ones, when they started to go 3D on the playstation and N64 they looked like crap but were still fun to play, now that finally games look beautiful in 3D in new systems it seems the quality in writing and music is almost gone.

  • @piscespeter3 Seems the game developers of today are a bunch of passionless kids who don't know how to evoke responses in themselves much less anyone else.

  • @piscespeter3 , Wow. You said it perfectly. I agree 1000%. Makes me sad.

  • ongy you can simply dled a snes and nes emulator and play all these great classic of games. if i didnt have it or couldnt borrow from my friends its what i did. also all the original FFare for GBA you could probable find them on ebay or your closest game store every one has a GBA collection

  • The piano version of this is so beautiful, also terra's theme makes sends shivers down my spine whenever i hear it.

  • these are the kind of songs i hear and always turn my head to go "oh damn i remember that song!"

  • Sweet, any ways to get this music?

  • People like u always make me sad, u know...

Sad, for I've never played the SNES-FinalFantasies, sad for never having played metroid or Lufia, sad for having missed all those good, sad, happy, touching moments I could've felt with the characters as you have. And especially sad, that you can only do this as a child, if you want the ral feeling to come...

looking forward to the rest of this list.

  • im sad for you, it may not make things better but at least you can hear them now right? ^_^

  • You know I think you're right, its funny how childhood experiences are remembered as being the best. Even though I've beaten this game many times, and listened to the music countless more - just hearing this song takes me back to that first, magical play through. Its weird how modern games don't evoke the same feelings out of me. I'm sure quality games are still being made, but the childish part of me that made video games so amazing and memorable is gone.

  • I once heard a quote about books. And their eternal beauty. but their wonder can only be taken in during youth. So all children should seize the opportunity. Maybe its the same with these classic games...

  • That's a nice quote, i'm almost afraid of saying it, but youth should be seized, i'm hoping i still have time to experience things of wonder :)

  • yeah

  • @BestSnesMusic well spoken men... well spoken. there are many great new games out there, but i still find myself playing old snes games over and over again.

  • @BestSnesMusic soo...true

  • @BestSnesMusic they really just don't make them like this anymore. All the complex systems and mind blowing graphics, but no heart or soul.

  • @BestSnesMusic Yes and no, I think soundtracks today are far less memorable because this new generation of games are distracted by the visuals and the voices. I've been playing skyrim for like past 2 months, and I can't remember or think of one theme in the game.

  • @ongyerth

I dont like admitting how true this is. However, while we have nostalgia in these games, there must be something you were doing while not playing these games, and that can bring back the same kind of memorys.

Me, I always used to put together puzzles with my mom, and just recently have found an urge to go out to the barn and get those puzzles back out and put them together again. Not as easy as looking up a video on myspace....

  • @calisurfer788

    o.O

You are comparing the feeling of putting together the matching pieces of a picture with the feeling you have while going through an adventure like Esper hunting, Mana sword reactivating, getting out of Evermore, saving princess Zelda or flying around a complex world with the Highwind?

You see, I have done other things in my childhood. Whenever I get to my aunt's place, I think of how my uncle used to come out of his garage, a fat smile on his white headed face.

  • @calisurfer788

Since that uncle has died this year, it would be quite rude to say that I feel the same nostalgia as the one I feel while listening to OST from my childhood games, but it is simply true. Just like diving into the world of my cousins, my aunt, and this very uncle is an important part of my childhood, diving into the worlds of magnificent games like Secret of Mana is of equal importance. The problem with this real world is the lack of adventures.

  • @calisurfer788

Triple comment incoming, read from most below comment to the highest, coz Youtube fails in this very case :-D

These games made it possible for me to completely forget myself, transfrom into the characters and LIVE their adventures. That's the reason for my nostalgia today. While this all sounds childish, it really IS childish. What is exactly why i wrote that comment one year ago. You can only do this when you're a child. Now that that time is gone, i notice what i missed.

  • @ongyerth to be onest there were serveral more versions of this game

there even was 1 for GBA zo i dont know how old you are but if you are 20 or zo you could easily made this trough even by downloading it on pc (visualbiy advance) and downloading the rom but indeed the game has many touching moments some funny some sad some other stuff but i mostly play it for its super music

  • @ongyerth It's never too late. I didn't play any of these classic NES and SNES games, but... playing through them now, they're just as wonderful as they were in their prime. People have been spoiled by the things that we can create now, but to see these masterpieces in their original form is wonderful.

  • i'm lovin the fan art, seriously

  • Never realized this was Edgar's theme played slower. And this music sort of seemed to be Sabin's theme. Anyhow, awesome that we have a new countdown in the works.

  • i think it's more of a "figaro brothers" theme

  • Good point, they do have the same theme.

  • well if you think about it that's how they are introduced in the ending "credits" to the game too

  • umm you made a big mistake.

cry in sorrow should be lower and near the bottom the harp piece that edward plays as it is terribly sad.

There is a piece that is sadder for me than the piece you put of secret of mana but i cannot be sure its name

  • Edgar was my favorite character from FF6...such a playboy, but one with depth. ^_^

  • oops...mistake in comment @@ glad to see you back =)
