  • Umm I didnt know your jaw was supposed to drop your jaw that far... i dont...

  • ive been in 1st chair for a while and saw this video. great tips i agree with all of your tips, THIS IS HOW TO PLAY THE BASSOON! FOR REAL!

  • is playing the bassoon hard?

  • I love the bassoon, and just started playing thanks for the tip!

  • I AM FIRST CHAIR HONEY!!! Beat out someone 10 years older than me, whose been through college and is a music teacher. What now.

  • "How to be first chair in bassoon"

Well no one else plays it so that shouldn't be a problem.

  • She was just playing a quick scale. She was giving tips also.

  • shes hotttttt

  • First of all, the woman has her doctorate, so I doubt all you fourteen-year-old disrespectful little shits can "toTallY plAy better then hr!1!1!! lolz"

And second of all, most of her advice is also good advice for blowjobs.

  • id hit that

  • she sucks !! i thikn i can play my bassoon good by myself !!

  • Using the shift key capitalizes letters, much like we find at the beginning of sentences, or with the proper pronoun "I."

Punctuation marks are generally attached to the preceding (or following, like with quotation marks or parentheses) word.

"Thikn" is not a word in the English language.

"Good" is an adjective, and "well" is an adverb. Things are played "well," or, as I would suspect in your case, "poorly," not "good" or "bad."

  • @member8675309 : ANIME is not only ignorant, but also too lazy to use the shift key (if they even know where to find it on the keyboard)

  • @ANIMEoTOAST Yea, you don't know what you're talking about... I am a Bassoonist and I believe she means well and she is right!

  • her glasses look wierd

  • hahhaa this is hilarious.

  • I think I met her.. maybe.

  • ooolala bite bite bite XD

  • I love the glasses!

  • lip position is never a for sure thing. Often it can depend on how high, low, soft, or loud you are playing in my opinion.

I don't really like the overbite info either. Sometimes an underbite can really useful for high notes.

  • I've given my wife some of these same tips. No biting and put more in your mouth.

  • lol that was great

  • @CaptainCannibas lololololololololololololololololololol

  • @Taanstafl12 lol did you think of it in a sexual way to? lol

  • @EuphoniumKid1, The great thing is.. no I didn't then I read the comment and it opened my eyes.. and what they saw was hilarious

  • @CaptainCannibas Lol im sorry but is it wrong that I thought of that in a... sexual way?

  • the "overbite" theory is disputed.

  • your teaching techniques seem very positive. God bless

  • i've been playing the bassoon for... oh, about 3 weeks. before that, i had been playing clarinet for 2 years.

this should help me a lot, thanks.

  • Hii!!! I played with you at Band Camp a couple years ago. This is the kid who watched you play with your piano teacher friend.

  • its funny because it kinda looks like when she plays its a recording!!!

  • can't believe u r a doctor! ! where did you get your master degree. well your teaching style and methods are absolutely right ,but.....

  • the classical music community is VERY small...if you're going to go around with this kind of attitude you are not going to last long! You will have a very hard time getting a job as both a teacher and as a performer. Perhaps you should show a little respect...you're only 16! teaching videos are about instruction and helping younger musicians...not about showing off the most elite playing style. She intentionally plays on the wrong part of the reed to demonstrate common problems, not show off

  • It's funny, this lady is from 1950, but this video is in color...

  • Great advice!

Boring sound, though. More grainy edge, please.

  • LOL those glasses are not currently in style!

  • I play in high school band and we don't even have 1 bassoon player, so it would be very easy to get first chair.

  • hahaha this is great

  • I personally found this to be excellent advice.

I get such better sound out of my bassoon after really focusing the things she mentioned.

  • give this lady a break. she sounds like a good teacher and is correct about what to do by the way. she's talking about beginner stuff. try to look beoynd her outfit and name tag. i was a band geek too -- she gets to make a living out of it, good for her.

  • Dr. Sommer is a wonderful teacher. I had a chance to meet her recently.

  • I've played bassoon for three years and what she saying it true because you not only have to focus on that but then your posture and fingerings and you sound and two of thouse things are effected by the reed so she has the right idea.

  • its the same for Sax and clarinet, I mean thats the basics! I learned that in 6th grade!

  • No, no its not. I play both, and I know how different it really is.

  • Yes, well, this video is all about the basics.

  • I bet she's good at other things too...

  • lol, I like how she says not to bite, when she bites the hell out of that reed...

  • please!!! Say intonation, not tuning...

sorry it got on my nerves :D

  • F_F_F_ it's hight!

  • you should change the title to proper embouchure for bassoon!
