  • hi, hope u can help me with this one, im thinkin about gettin those barts u got, but the price for me its way lower if i get a J like emg pick ups a friend is seelin, do u think it would be worth it? from the sound of the barts i absolutely love it, also seems like emg are louder but not exacly warmer than barts, i mainly play latin music and other styles but mainly latin stuff like samba cumbia bossa etc, can u advice me on the matter?

  • @mcornielle - First off, I'd say, get what you can afford... I'm not as informed on EMG electronics but I agree, from what I hear on recordings, EMG's sound a bit less warm than Bartolini's.

If you don't have a preamp (in your bass, or in your signal chain) you may want to try that first. Like (inboard) Bartolini or Aguilar preamps are nice. Pedals: Tech 21 bass driver DI, Eden WT Pedal, or others... Go to a store and try some pedals first.

  • i was wondering why you build that bass with so much access to the last frets if the fretboard actually end too far away from that

  • @elpactodejohnson1 - Actually, this was going to be a 24 fret bass... Then I decided to try a 20 fret cause I thought it would sound different. I believe it does...

  • Sounds pretty similar to emg j-set

  • Weird. What the heck is going on upstairs?? Permagrin or something? Possibly a fake? Something tells me that this is going to end with a 20 dollar ruckus...

  • Hey Bassman8er, That's an awesome tone you've got.

I'm soon going to start building a Warmoth Jazz Bass and I plan to install two Bartolini BD pickups on it with a pre amp (Get it a big pickguard like Miller's Jazz).

Would you mind giving me some suggestions as to what I should buy? I am a little bit lost!

    Thank you

  • @DanielMyung - Not at all... It's going to depend on what sound you're looking for and all that kind of stuff... Shoot me a message here and we might be able to get something figured out...

  • I have a 'cheap' RBX 760 A 4 strings yamaha bass guitar with two pickups , I'll love to upgrade with Bartolinis , will I have to change also the active system that I already have on my bass ? or just to buy the pickups ?

  • @Fili2009able - As I understand it, sometimes Bartolini pickups don't play well with other systems. You may have to bite the bullet and swap it all out. However, I have run Ibanez stock pickups with a Bartolini pre and it sounded great, but that's the opposite of what you're talking about. I'd say, give it a shot and see what happens...

  • nice tone dude...fat and punchy...also crispy...

  • @dwprsk Thanks!! Yeah, I don't think you can go wrong with Bartolini stuff... Well, unless you're not into that... :)

  • Fantastic tone! I'm considering putting Bartolini's in my Warwick Thumb

  • @TheGallery213 - Thanks Man!! Hey, if you're going to do it yourself, make sure you measure them up good... There's a few different sizes of J-style pickups out there. I'm not sure about the sizes of Warwick pickups... Peace!

  • What series of barts are these? they sound awesome. are they originals or the classic series?

  • @kingofthestoneage5 - The pickups are 9CBJD S1/L1 Dual inline hum canceling. There's a preamp in there too, but wasn't utilized too much for the video. It's a "NTMB-918F 3-band Preamp/Tone Control Module" (HR-5.2). I was shooting for a "Marcus Miller" type sound and think I got pretty close...

  • Big sound!

  • @GORFF987 - Thanks!!!
