@keshav0312 Yea Ed always used single ply gear at most, so it doesn't change your technique that much. His raw and suited squats were pretty much identical. He was also extremely strong raw, but didn't compete so much in it as the strongest of the strongest were all using single ply gear, and he had to beat them to be the strongest...which he did
Deep? His chest was just about touching his thighs! I can't imagine how he stood back up. The guy is just about as much an icon as ever lifted a weight. Great video.
Ed Coan has been playing the Game for over 30 YEARS! Crushing the competition and setting new records. Forget that he's coming back. The fact that he's still ALIVE after all he's the abuse his body taken over decades is Amazing! To pump that much iron over the years, the man must be made of Steel Coan is Superman. He is the GAME! He is........the KING of KINGS! Great post.
Eddie is awesome indeed. But whats up with the hostility at the music? Metal is a weightlifters music ;) Try it on the gym and you'll notice that you suddenly are 20% stronger :)
Sorry... but the only lift he does raw here is the deadlift. He's wearing a squat suit and wraps and a T-shirt over his bench shirt because its on ESPN.
He wore a bench shirt with a T-shirt over it. jessxcr is correct except that it was the USPF that forced the lifters to cover up a sponsor's logo. It was a vengeful move by the USPF because the sponsor had sued the USPF for contract breach. The USPF fabricated the espn story to try and cover their asses. Every other year before and after on espn you can see the sponsor's logo on the lifters. You can see the flapping duct tape they forced him to wear on his suit on the other lifts.
@spectrumconsciousnes OH! I understand now lol!. they are jealous and weak.

Hmmm, I didn't notice. I did notice his arms bunched up watching it again though. How much of his career did he lift suited?
nigfufu 5 years ago
As 99% of all powerlifters do he lifted equipped his whole career.
blutonybench 5 years ago
Oh...I guess it is pretty hard to last in sport without gear. Injuries and all. Ed was/is a pure beast anyway.
nigfufu 5 years ago
You got it, that's why. Also don't forget as the song says he played the game, which is true Powerlifting. It's not soccer or ballet.
