  • Everyone on here keeps posting garage videos. Why doesnt someone put there electric supercharged car on a dyno?

  • These things draw way too much current off your electrical system. You'll need a higher amp alternator and a deep cycle battery from what I've seen on YouTube test. I don't think this thing will hold up very long. If it really worked, Autozone would be selling it. My Dodge ram hemi naturally aspirated 5.7 would smoke this car with his fake supercharger and as I would lap him I would just drive right over his car! If you want a serious horsepower. You need serious cash.

But in theory it could provide a nice little boost in power for not very much money. However until i see some dyno resaults or a boost gauge showing positive boost at high rpm's I doubt these things work at all.

  • CFM is not the same as psi. most blowers are squirrel cage design that are made to move a lot of air at little to no pressure. I am willing to bet if your car was running, you would not see one drop of boost.

  • @Perfectasthis it wasnt hard the motor cost me 1500ish at JDM.com 2 weeks later was delivered to Foss Motors Enc. that weekend it was droped in i removed the exhaust and put the drive line back to a new rear end from a totaled mr2 at Eds auto salvage the ECU and wireing harness was shipped with the motor i baught new fuel rails from TRD.com instaled 1000 PSI 1jz injectors thanks to ebay47.99 for 6 i have spares i then purchased a new exhaust from HKS whitch routed along the unibody afterwords

  • @Perfectasthis i went back to HKS and baught a t3t4 aftermarket slap on turbo at 57mm for 720 i also baught a SSQV BOV with Injen intake and a 4x12 intercooler 75 atnifreeze 25 water mixture i later came accros a whinding sound in the transmition apon acceleration and learned that the mastercylinder was out i ot a new one replaced it and it runs fine i dont HOT ROD it because im at 927.4 miles and im not a dumb ass my car sits at 387 WHP at 23 PSI ran on dyno at second wind preformance for 80

  • Actually 6PSI is still 6PSI of boost. The question is how much airflow CFM is that vaccum flowing. Most likey its only flowing 100 CFM at 6 PSI so it will only make noticable power on a small portion of the powerband. One the engine is started the boost will drop off as the RPM's increase and engine CFM bemands will exceed that of the vaccum.

  • @300ZXrider1 do you have an idea of what is the max airflow demand in CFM of an 1.6 litter engine? at about 5500 rpm. I have a chevy aveo and i messed with one of this things but i haddnt installed my electric supercharger and im wondering if it is gonna work before installing it. Mine is centrifugal type ( has the shape of a conventional turbo) and has a 14.4 amp and 12.2 volts electric motor, and its seller said it would produce a 250CFM airflow with a boost of 2psi. Do you think would work?

  • @sinister99gt Actually this is working. Eventhough the motor is not turned on the blower is still making so much boost and cfm. I think a engine like this will need around 280 cfm at 6000 rpm. These vacuum blower put out about 100 to120 cfm @ low psi like in the vid. So this will work for a portion of the lower powerband until the cfm requirement of the engine exceeds that of the blower.

  • @omega3677 and after that it becomes a restriction. it doesnt work , you couldnt get anyone at a shop to tune a car with one of those things on it. they would laugh you out the door. i cant belive there are still people around that think this could work. there is no video proof of one of these things on a dyno. the only one that ever did took like 8 car batteries to run it and i think it was a starter motor that they used ,its only thing that that would spin fast enough , look it up.

  • @sinister99gt I'm guessing the throttle body was open in order for a reading from the vaccum line could be taken. If it does become a restriction a simple y-pipe with a check valve placed on the engine air pipe could be used to switch over for na breathing when the intake is no longer pressurized. This needs more testing to see what it is actually doing and how to improving upon it.

    though seriously adding boost to a normal car wont go down well with the engine as you have constant rpm on the fan, if there was some way to speed control it to the engines induction needs then i can see it may make a slight difrence, but just adding a fan wont make it faster, you will be creating rifts in the normal air flow which will be picked up my the map sensor, and cause over fueling

  • It's pushing 6 psi... when the enigne's off. But it doesn't have enough airflow to do anything productive at even engine idle.

  • Yeah, but what it's measuring is how much pressure there is IN ADDITION to atmospheric. a 1psi turbo still has some benefit, mostly in gas mileage. you can get significant HP gains from 7psi, speaking from experience. Enough to make your front wheel drive Honda fast enough to kick some ass. I.E. i saw one guy that had 210hp at 10psi. that's pretty common.

  • you need to understand how air works. The perfect setup would be to have one electric turbo beside the air filter on a Y pipe so that when the turbo is on, it creates a vacuum on the other pipe adding psi, oh and make the turbo increase speed withe the pedal. Than have another turbo right at the intake manifold connected by another Y pipe that it only goes on when you floor the car to give you that extra boost. I think this could add 60 hp

    I figured this out and I am too young to drive yet

    Im not that good at machanics. I drive a 330i BMW. Between a chip and supercharge, which one is better ? I heard somebody saying a chip gives much more satisfying results on a turbo car than on a naturally aspirated car.

    And which one is more expensive?

  • man , I have a e46 ( 320i) Dinan chips are by far the best for bmw's .... super chargers cost like 6,000 and only give up to 80 hp... so basically not worth the money ... just buy a skyline ; ) and keep the bmw for show...

    There is no free lunch when it comes to motive power. The electricity used to power the blower is replaced by your vehicle's recharging system and there is power and fuel usage required to accomplish this.

    While it is possible to get a slight boost at low rpm that thing will not have the ability to provide usable boost at high rpm. These products are among the biggest rip-offs anywhere.

  • Depends on how bad ass do you want it to be. if do you want it to give you extra 30- 40 hoses than you'll be fine with the stock battery, but if you wanna it to be as powerfull as mechanical turbocharger then you probably will need an extra battery in case.

  • This Is Absolute rubbish. Even If by some chance you could gain any repeatable psi under a load, It would still do more harm then good, intern your car would be slower. Lager changes in aspiration such as forced induction must be counteracted with a sufficient fuel displacement in all ranges of the rpm scale. This is called tuning. Something someone with a blow dryer strapped to their intake may not be able to afford to achieve! Hints the act of desperation!

  • yes they do work, but at about a 50th of the effect of a real turbo.

    an increase of 5psi will mean a general decrease of vac by about 5psi on a N/A engine.

    the smaller the engine the better they work

    i.e 1 - 1.5 litres

    all this does really is allow for a slight power increases. less than 5 - 10% of original bhp.

    but tbh it is worth it for a small engine 1 litre

  • Actually it uses a real turbine and housing. Looks similar to a vortech. Except it uses a high torque motor behind it instead of a belt driven gear. It's like putting a gear reduced starter on the backside of a turbine housing.

  • Haha nice way to prove it doesn't work! Try blocking your vaccum cleaner and it's going to buit a lot of pressure, exactly like this "supercharger" when the engine is turned off the air has nowhere to go so of course it's going to build up pressure!
