  • he is so drunk lol love it!!!

  • @patsoby he is!? daaang I didn't know... great performance though. I hope he doesn't overdo it with the alcohol. We need to keep bands like this around

  • dang

  • This is the best summary of depression I've ever heard.

  • @amerigovespucci, if its depression you want. 'Red House Painters' were the absolute masters.

  • @johannlederhosen Hahaha, yeah, true. Sun Kil Moon too :D

  • @amerigovespucci

Someone needs to listen to Giles Corey

  • the one guy who disliked this smells bad. really bad.

  • 2.41 OMFG probably one of the best sounds I've heard o.o

  • is that Richard from Arcade Fire playing guitar there? ace :D

  • @sadbaby01 yes indeedy!

  • @derickonfire - as someone who has been an artist and performer, critiques can be hard, but you have to take them if you care about being a better performer. THE SINGER can decide what to do with the critiques and make his own choices. And resorting to name calling? Really?? Come on.

  • excepcional

  • Their music takes you to a place. Glad I happened upon them.

  • probably the most powerful

    song i’ve heard in a 5 years

  • What a terribly great song.

  • i'm gonna curl up and die now.

  • que alguien le acerque una puta toalla...

  • I ended it with my girlfriend, because she lied to me. This song, resonates with me. Not doing well. Cannot stand liars. "Sorrows" is a Truth.

  • @Papatauenga what did she lie about?

  • I love this song, I am loving this band. This is what real music sounds like, I barely listen to the radio it's all the same crap.

  • Wish we could hear him more. 1) turn his mic up 2) articulate, man! we love to hear you!

  • @maevwen articulate? Don't ever tell that to a rock musician, dumbass.

  • just great

  • some habits are hard to break...

  • some habits are hard to break...

  • Bryan is such a phenomenal Drummer and Percussionist. I love the whole band, just wanted to show the Drummer some Love. You Guy's are Grrrrrrrrrrreeeeattt!!

  • May 15, Cincinnati. Hometown show!

  • Fantastic Composition, Fantastic Orchestration, and I ABSOLUTELY love the Core of the Band's timing. With three Guitar Players and Orchestral maneuvers in the background the timing has to be perfect. I would say You achieved that perfection...and then some.My Ultimate Respects to you and your excellent Lyrical skills My Lads. As they say in the U.S. Navy.......BZ. That means Well Done!

  • 1 person listens to Coldplay

  • Awesome

  • @brad69rambler yeah,nothing less than awesome.

  • 0 people have experienced a life without sorrow.

  • I like how at 2:18 it shows his wedding ring just as he's singing, 'I dont want to get over you.'

  • "I live in a city sorrow built" my fav line. Great song.Great band...

  • @em09j Make that 178...this sound is beautiful

  • it's in my honey

    it's in my milk

  • holy shit!!!! thats richard reed parry on backing vocalsss! amazing!

  • Damn....I get emotional from watching Matt Berninger(lead vocals) being so passionate about his music. Truly depressing but, nonetheless beautiful music.

Can't wait till their next release!

  • these guys are such a great story, been chopping the tree for more than ten years, finally getting the recognition their genius deserves, real emotional, soft yet powerful, it's such a buzz to see them doing well.

  • Best band to ever come from Ohio....ever.

  • fucking AMAZING MAY GOOD MUSIC fly in others

  • What incredibly sad men

  • I love how it cuts from the singer looking like he's gonna fuckin' shoot himself, to smiling violinists. Great song, though. Very depressing.

  • Potentially my dumb question of the week, @2:39 is that Richard Reed Parry of Arcade Fire? If so it's great to see two of the best bands in the world collaborating on some level.

  • I Love this song!

  • too, too real.

  • I was given the assignment to analyze a song in my English class. I presented the song to my class and when i was done my teacher came up to me and said "That song is amazing ,Thank you'." THANK YOU NATIONAL:)

  • It's in my honey

    It's in my milk

  • Uncut? This video is very cut!

  • I don't wanna get over you

  • 3:14 When arcade fire say they will supply the 'ooh', they goddamn supply it.

  • @Tiptup77 Arcade fire is with them?

  • @boofieman the guy at 3:14 is the guitarist (amongst other things) in arcade fire

  • this just gives me the chills

  • i love this band and am listening to them everyday. there songs follow me in my head all day long as well. But i cant stop thinking the lead looks like Bill Clinton

  • Sorrow also found me when I was young. Cover me in rag and bone. So great. Thanks The National. I love the octave harmony on the vocals. Brilliant. I love also all the instrumentation. A proper band.

  • On 9/15/2010 at 1:32 AMs from the estcoast, this song has 30,148 views, 80 likes and 0 dislikes. I wonder when they get main stream what it will be..

  • Oct 9thDallas... I already have my tickets!

  • He has no idea what to do with his hands.

  • Everytime I see this. All I see is Ian Curtis.

  • @GoSvFF

    yep me too.

But my comparison with Joy Division got mr hands well and truely slap on here the other week!

  • Comment removed

  • After "Well I Wonder" by The Smiths this is the most romantic rock song I've ever heard.

  • So glad I discovered this band.

  • Haunting & beautiful!!!!

  • joy division are back...

    ... love this x

  • @emilybronte2005

Joy division? I don't think so. The National might have a kind of post-punkish sound, but they have created their own style and sound.

  • @rubengrappig may be you did or maybe you didn't....

however I did have the honour of seeing Joy Division live - and i got deja vue watching this video. My comment was quick and to the point - yes they have, quite excellently created their own style and sound. Based on lots of influences, as we are influenced by others in life...

... and I was quite right... they are most certainly influenced by Joy Division - as I've since checked them out on wiki etc....

Have a nice day :) xxx

  • @emilybronte2005

Nope, I'm only 16 so it's impossible for me to have seen them, haha. Well I know they are influenced by Joy Division, but to say ''Joy Division are back'' is something else. I thought you meant they were like trying to imitate Joy Division,

You have a nice day too!

  • i feel the words

  • My new favorite song. Especially those first two lines. "Sorrow found me when I was young. Sorrow waited, sorrow won. Sorrow, they put me on the pill."

  • So I bought the album not too long ago because of Bloodbuzz Ohio, but the whole album is amazing. Sorrow is by far the song that evokes the most emotion out of me.

  • Why does this song always bring me to tears?! It's just perfect...Best album I've heard in a while...Consistently good...not a single bad track...Can't wait to see them live...I have chills...

  • Wow!!!!if these guys dont win some recognition as Band of the year this countrys minds are warped, the messages here are just unreal,John Lennon look-alike drummer included, mind blowing, touching to the soul and mind guys your the shizz, euthoria in every word & every song, like a music cocktail makes a junkie out of the avid listener if tasted too often,Ghod damn it,powerful and magick,Im hooked..MUCH LOVE~Vlada~aka Rayvhenwing

  • @RAYVHENWING Awwww well said its filled with such emotion and love

Thanks Rayvhenwing so much for showing me this wicked band love them

    love Libertine

  • lovely track from the High Violet album - sometimes one just needs a song like this

  • Love this band, but my question is: Why is Malachi from Children of the Corn singing backup vocals for them?

  • Great Band. I love the ambiguous lyrics and poets approach to questions about the meaning of their songs. It would be a great band to see live, because they don't try to sound exactly like the CD.

  • what song is that they play in the ad beore the vid???

  • @thentheyscream bloodbuzz ohio

  • @thentheyscream It's "Mr. November" from the album, Alligator.

  • god, they can do no wrong..

  • I like it

  • I like it

  • Something about Richard's off-key against the violin just works. It's raw, it's passionate, it's heart-wrenching (is it wrenching or renching?), it's fitting with the song. I dunno...I like it.

  • Great soothing and unique raw sound! Welcome to L.A. this weekend for the scheduled gigs.

  • did richard reed parry do the backups on the album version as well?

  • I think his backups are perfect.

  • Dude from Arcade Fire is singing backup?

    off key?

  • @sissyneck78 ...you're off key

  • @berryisu ...yer mom's off key.

but seriously, is that the napoleon-dynamite-lookin' fella from arcade fire, or no?

  • @sissyneck78 ...i'm glad to see you have the sense of humor as me...and yes, that is Richard Reed Parry from Arcade Fire.

  • @sissyneck78 yeah it is

  • Stunning.

  • wow

  • this live version is making me see the version on High Violet with new eyes.

  • so so so good
