@laszloseverance That is an absolute load of rubbish. This is one of the best films of the 20th century. With one of the best film soundtracks of the 20th century.
Charlton Heston was great in the Movie "El Cid". Too bad they don't make movies like that anymore. Movies like Ben-Hur, 10 Commandments, or El Cid simply couldn't be made today because popular culture has changed so much as political reality. But mainly because there's no one remotely like Charlton Heston to infuse tho...se forms of characters(Moses, Ben Hur, and El Cid) with his stature, fire, passion, personnality, grit, determination, and guts.
I cannot wait to read the vicious and cruel comments that will be spewed by europeans on this site. Have at it. Another American to demean while his corpse is barely cold. A great man, an american legend, an academy award winner and a true patriot til the end. " from my cold dead hands"....
Guns don't kill people, other people do! Instead of taking away the means to kill people, why dont you as Americans do more to take away the DESIRE to kill!! We have banned handguns in this country, and yet gun crime is spiraling out of control. You Americans may also bask in the knowledge that burglary and petty crime is lower in the states that have lax gun laws because criminals know they may be shot if they commit a crime. That is his legacy, and for that you should be thankfull.
Highly romaticised, but that was the essence of Chuck Heston. He never did anything subtly. 84 years is a pretty good run, but I'm saddened another icon of my childhood is gone. And I think it speaks volumes about his character that he was married to the same woman for 63 years. RIP Mr. Heston.
El Cid was married in July 1074 to Alfonso's kinswoman Jimena of Oviedo (spelled Ximena in Old Spanish). The Historia Roderici calls her daughter of a Count Diego of Oviedo, a person unknown to contemporary records, while in "Cantar de Mío Cid" it directly points out that El Cid's enemy, Count García Ordóñez, was the father of dona Jimena.
The marriage was probably on Alfonso's suggestion, a move that he probably hoped would improve relations between him and El Cid; although when the Cid laid eyes on her he was enamored by her beauty. Together El Cid and Jimena had three children. Their daughters Cristina and María both married high nobility; Cristina to Ramiro, Lord of Monzón, son of Sancho Garces, and bastard grandson of García V of Navarre; María,
first (it is said) to a prince of Aragon and second to Ramón Berenguer III, count of Barcelona. El Cid's son Diego Rodríguez was killed while fighting against the invading Muslim Almoravids from North Africa at the Battle of Consuegra (1097).
A very plastic, cartoonish flick, poorly shot, poorly acted, poorly directed. A bomb...

The most great legend of Hollywood!
Charlton Heston se convirtió en uno de los principales héroes del cine estadounidense. gran icono del Hollywood épico.
Mantuvo hasta el último momento una gran entereza y compostura, similar a la que aplicó a sus papeles históricos.
He will be sorely missed. ... RIP

My deepest sympathy to his Family and all that knew this fearless fighter of integrity,in all he touched, and the roles he took on.
He stood up for his beliefs and gave his all. How many of us can say the same of ourselves. He ilk will be sorely missed.
