if lil romeo wasnt a nickelodeon star, master p's fake ass would still b makin records. romeo is all hes got. i still remember when nelly was a big star on tha disney channel- till they heard his real music, then they got rid of all his shit. u dont see him apologing like a lil bitch though. real niggas dont do that shit. we stand up for what we do and did, just like banner did. fuck master p.
we live in a world of followers stand up do u be you its easy 2 say but not 2 do because i want money ima do what sells i gotta eat and that is the mindset of alot of rappers they wana be positive after they make it way after then its 2 late its just a song
The argument is logically simple, as much as there is to disect. The disection of the issue isn't even necessary if the finger pointers saw the bigger picture.
Since rappers are so hole heartedly attacked, we need intellectuals like Michael Erick Dyson, or Hip-Hop alumni Master P to unequivocally defend the name of Hip-Hop as a "free-speech" artform. Overall, they are not explaining why Hip-Hop should change, but are planting the understanding that positive influence is heavily appreciated.
"Entertainment" and "Art" are subjectively different yet the similar... both are exposed to an audience; both are potentially influential; both are created by an influence. Therefore, this issue will never change!
The elders will always worry of the negative influence to minors thus the resulting conditions due to possible "influence"... and there will always be a new scapegoat to point a finger at: Movies, Music, Video Games, Dance, etc. All of which follow under "entertainment" and "art" 0_o
that mass. cong. is full of shit he wants to create an allusion of positivity in america rappers dont just make up shit bout hoes and booty shakin they learn about it rakim and kool herc were normal humans with the same outlook on life b4 hip-hop so i mean what are the fuckin cong.man talkin bout
Overall alot, of this discusiion stems from this pathetic south movement, thes dudes overglamourize themselves giving everone a bad rep. When east or west ppl did it, they did it in mature sense, these southern based artists r like kids in their music and videos.
im from tha south, i dont support that type of bullshit music, but when rappers do real shit, they get their cd pushed back. or dropped from the label.
yeah if oprah and al sharpton and all these cats really wanted betta music then y dont they give real musicians a voice, y dont they start their own record labels and make their own TV stations so that way BET and MTV will have to start realising the crap they put out.
but u 4get southern america's education isnt as good as new yorks or californias u will find in the more rural parts of america education isnt as impressive now im not sayin every1 who lives in fields or under the mason-dixon line is dumb but u have to realize that they arent open to the oppurtunities we get as oftenly so they're ignorance is reflected by they're societies way of life
wow im from the south so u blame the south? so u saying east coast and west coast doing things right? we have alot of lyrical artist down here as well too many to name hip hop is a whole not segregated. well jay z is a east coast rapper he made a song called "i know" with pharrell he talking about a person taking heroine but in a more slick and lyrical way so east coast music is so much better than the south?
At the end of the day, hiphop will not chagne it will just get worse. im sorry no one is paying attention to master p or banner because they are not relevant in hiphop as a whole. If this discussion were to make any progress then they should have gotten artists such as:jay z, 50, nas, artists who are the main spokespeople for hiphop. as well they should gotten krs one and some of the older kats. But no they get master p and banner, no disrespect to them but no one is paying attention to them,
if u view videos from 77-90's all videos were doing just that, of course there were some that weren't but thats was only some, now all videos r like that,
Hoes , bitches, thugs w.e , ok we understand thats wat goes on in underprivelged areas but honestly if u the artist wants to preach that message positivily then do it positively, dont go and make some fuked up video with everything negative then quielty mention these problems in ur lyrics, because im sorry, no one getting the message, makae ur music and videos coincide with the actually meaning of the song, if it wont sell then hiphop isnt for u,
The problem that i see is this: i studied this culture from its roots to its current state. Hiphop began as a voice for the people, gradually through the 70's 80's 90's it spoke the same message but now u have people abusing the art of hiphop to preach garbage to the public, why would the public want to know that our throwing some d;s on something, we dont care if thats part of your life.
hip hop and rap are 2 different things mos def/common/talib /thats hip hop 50/jayz/game that shit rap. u live hip hop u dont study it. u just listen to rap
yes brotha they need to stop bashing Hiphop and start bashing comercial rap, cuz rap is somthing u do Hiphop is somthing u live. Hiphop is a culture that gave birth to Rap music.
i feel a banner a bitch for attempting to defend this art form now. There is a reason why consious rappers dislike the state of hiphop , they understand that glamourizing negative images is wrong. When i look at videos i see rappers talking all bad or wat not and seem to show to serious actions , i see them smiling at women shaking there ass and everything else in that category.
ill give u an ex: lil boosie wipe me down, how can banner or anyone defend that, of course hiphop is a refelction of society but, wat these congress men are pissed off about is alot of the hiphop videos shown today, they all r negative, (booty, cars, clothes, jewlerry etc),
OK, ill be real, alot of this whole congress thing is absolutely positive but also a bunch of b.s. Ill say this, banner is trying to defend the negativity in hiphop. Im a hip hop fan since 89, and i am certainly well aware of its history and meanings. But, when i look at the videos today they r all pathetic,
It was ok, but it won't change. They keep stating that "we need to change and take control of our responsibilities." They won't. Master P contradicted what Banner said. "Gangsters formed b4 rap music." So, why do you call it gangster rap? Banner posed a very good argument but it was iffy at times. Nonetheless, just change the impression that most nationalities have upon us blacks becuz this world is full of racism. Our fate, is in their hands.
Master P had a very good point . Rappers are kept in a space where we panic to sell records. That has been the true demonization of the culture. Hip-hop latched on to money as its lifeblood, whereas those forms of true hip-hop expression don't really generate money like MCing does. And Gangsta Rapping with a message doesn't generate the same money that Glorifying Gangsta Rap does. See the trend? It'll only get worse as long as money is the determining factor.
No Master P is proof that you can be young and out there full of piss and vinegar and doing stupid stuff. And then you grow up and get wiser. We all go through that. That is why you don't see many older rappers out there making videos like how they used to. They grow up and realize the influence they have on the community
What?! Of course Europeans would not take hiphop to heart as seriously as Americans do. The music is just appealing to them. We know the history, the background, the lifestyle. That was not valid statement. And black ppl as a collective are the ones who abused welfare! It's never the white man who we should blame. It's ourselves
Your points are true and flase, to say that Europeans cant relate is stupid, you saying there is no class struggle, poverty, violence? guns? Hip Hop is a worldwide thing...as is poverty!
HipHop is originally from AFRICAN/AFIRCAN AMERICAN status. I did NOT say they could'nt relate! As much as I enjoy the anyone and everyone enjoying and embracing the culture, We as blacks started it, and all my other friends in Australia, Germany, Russia, are mimicking the culture even if they went through any level of opression. Our black community needs to straighten up!
This is my point also tho mate, there IS a black community all over the world and personally speaking I feel Hip Hop was not just a black thing, but a poverty thing, a way of self expression, hence the block parties etc with whites, Hispanics and blacks all being as one,the way it should be and the way THE MAN doesnt want it to be. Respects and Peace
What? Europeans have been preserving the true essence of hip hop CULTURE better than we have. MCing, DJing, Bboying, Grafitti..they do it all. Its sad when someone like KRS-One can go to France or even Japan and get much more love and respect than here in his home country.
Master P paraphrases the same argument everytime he speaks, and it really bothers me that he keeps intimating that he's more mature and focused than David Banner.
I have to agree with Dyson that America needs to stop viewing hip hop as the origin of all things deplorable.
Master P is full of shit. He spent his whole career promoting drugs, violence and negativity. He is sitting on a fortune built on blood money! Why isn't he giving that money away to his victims? Also, why does he feel the need to keep correcting what David Banner said? STFU. P is proof that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Is this the same man who was ordering hits on people?
Botyh sides have a point, but David Banner s not the worse rapper why is he there. Master P use to be wack I am glad he apologized for it, but other wack ass rappers should have been here. If hip hop checked itself it would not have got to this point where Congress is involved. It is there own fault. The wackness must cease. Real MC's need to put these inferior rappers in place.
I can understand everyone's points and why they feel that way, so it's difficult to side with someone. But as Master P said, rappers that are big right now (ie. Kanye, Cham etc.) need to take it upon themselves to continue to push positive messages. Then again, labels might not put it out.. I think I'm gonna read some of Dr. Dyson's books, cause that guy had some very interesting points.
i agree 100%. putting something positive in these songs can be easy to for these guys, but it won't bring in the big dollars like they hardcore negative will. i was born and raised in New Orleans, growing up to master p and just about everyone in the south area and even though master p isn't the big 75 mil record seller anymore, he is doing something to solve what some may see as a serious problem.
i respect where david banner is coming from as well. but like p said these other artists will not sacrifice their paychecks to make the necessary changes in their music. what's really more important to our youths...the fame, the money, or being a positive influence?
