Rocky Balboa is inspired by Rocky Marciano? If it is no wonder Sylvester Stallone made that epic movie. And to all people that say : Tyson will beat the s**t out of Marciano, you can`t be sure about that. "But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward"
@diqn4o Wepner vs Ali was the inspiration for the cinderella script but the character was modelled after Marciano and Frazier. The name is Rocky. He is Italian. He is from south Philly (Frazier) and is a swarming pressure fighter who is all heart and a fanatical trainer (ala both.) He is a southpaw (ala Frazier.) He pounded slabs of meat like Frazier did.
Tyson could not handle Marciano's fanatical mental and physical toughness.
I'm sorry I just googled and researched rocky's era they wear 5 oz gloves and Ali and Tyson's era they wear 12 oz gloves, damn Tyson hitting Rocky with a 5 oz glove I would not want to see that!
Just think about this,in Rockys era they wear 4 oz gloves and in foreman and tyson era they wear 10 oz gloves so just imaging foreman or tyson hitting rocky with with 4 oz gloves on the match wouldn't have lasted 1 round. Not trying to down talk Rocky but Ali,Foreman and Tyson are better skilled boxers than Rocky. Foreman or Tyson fighting with 4 oz gloves they would kill somebody!
Listen, Rocky has always been my favourite fighter. I love his determination, dedication and will to win. But he was not a gifted boxer and more importantly, like most fighters from his day, didnt defend himself well. Ali was too fast and skilled for Marciano. Ali would beat him. And Tyson would have beaten anybody in his prime. TYSON: the best fighter of all time
@scoul11 ali wasnt to fast for if he wasnt for foreman. what held rocky was he could take hella hits and he was the hardest hitter in his rain of terror all his fights they said it was hell he would of knocked out ali and tyson. tyson was more of a street fight in his prime he loss to a guy 20 pounds less than him in a catch weight but he would beat ali i say
@scoul11 Ali had trouble with guys he could not hurt and keep off him, ala Frazier. Even according to Frazier, Rocky was stronger and better conditioned (and Frazier was an absolute bull and a fanatical trainer.) Rocky had a stronger chin and power in both hands. Marciano's phenomenal conditioning, determination and relentless pressure and workrate break Ali's jab and then Ali. Rocky had an insane workrate. He threw 120+ punches a ROUND and he could keep that up for 15. Rocky by KO in 13
How can anyone compare Rocky to Ali or Tyson, shit just watch the video he misses almost 60% of his punches. Tyson would have knock Rocky out in the second round and Ali would have knock him out in the 4th round and why does everyone forget about BIG George Foreman, I don't even think Rocky would have attempt to fight Foreman,Foreman would've put Rocky to sleep in the first round
@leeman3967 you gotta know morre about rcoky he never lost and he was the hardest hitter in his era. all his fights they say his hits were hell and george would not wanna fight him
Rocky was great. Greatest? That'll always be up for debate. Right now, it has to be Mayweather, jr., right? 15-20 years ago we'd have to go with Julio Ceasar Chavez, correct? I have been following fighting for 30 years and there have been some greats. For my money, welterweights of the 80's were among the best fighters in one of the best eras ever (Leonard, Hearns, Hagler, Duran, etc.).
sorry to all you Ali lovers, he would have had major problems against Rocky, he admited this himself.
aslo, Ali, whilst champion, also used marciano a a sparring and training partner. Ali, later in retirement, admited that those sparring sessions with Rocky was the hardest he had ever been hit in his life.
Marciano's punch was tested and it was featured in the December 1963 issue of Boxing Illustrated: "Marciano's knockout blow packs more explosive energy than an armor-piercing bullet and represents as much energy as would be required to spot lift 1000 pounds one foot off the ground."
it is the same old arguement as babe ruth vs. hank aaron there is no way to say who was the best .Rock was best of the 50s and that is about as far as you go.
The one thing that really makes Marciano stand out compared to just about any other boxer I have seen, is his work-rate. Anyone who has been in the ring, even as a fledgling amateur, knows how tiring it is. The amout of punches Marciano throws is just unbelievable. You can discuss his skill-level, but his stamina and physique was beyond comparison.
Guess its easy to say when your not toe to toe with the fighter. Every fighter fights nobodies! Thats how you get in the top 10. Then you beat who's on top. That just shows there the better man till someone else comes along. Thats just who there was at the time.Your not going to have a big fight your whole career. Look at Tyson, who did he fight? Ali? Frazier and Foreman whoopie! I'm talking in there primes! Oscar on the other hand had a lot of big name fights.
Look how Marciano fights. So slow. He was a bar bralwer at best that's known for beating WASHED UP former greats like Louis, Charles and Walcott.Even then he had trouble beating them and they were old as hell. Look at his unbeaten recoerd. Most of the people he fought were tomato cans. Marciano is just like Joe Calzaghe. Fought bums his whole career, and only fought the greats when they were old and washed up. He snuck off and retired before Liston could get hold of him. OVERRATED.
@QuincyAD87 your watching his highlights of fights when theyre in rounds that are deep in the fights and both fighters are more tired.. Also Rocky was a power puncher not a speed puncher...
Mike Tyson in his prime would put Rocky Marciano into a permenant coma. Rocky Marciono was a blown up cruiserweight that had never fought anyone over 220lbs, He weighed 188lbs. That's far to small to mix it up with Tyson.. He's only known for beating old and washed up greats like Louis, Charles and Walcott. He even struggled to beat them and they were old as dirt. Mike Tyson was way bigger, faster and hit just as hard. Marciano would get beaten like Hatton did fighting Mayweather.
@QuincyAD87 i think rocky for his time was a great fighter, for a guy at 185 pounds he had a great punch, but mike tyson would put rocky to sleep, mike tyson was a hard puncher and could have been great but to much partying and to many bad people in hes life bringing him down.do i think all the guys he was fighting were bums,no,i think 43 knock outs are 43 knockouts,49 guys all couldnt have had weak chins,i mean buster that knocked out mike, that guy was a bum,
@MegaBilley don't give me that 43 knockout mess. Marciano thought bums. You know it, I know it, the world knows. It's not hard to knock out bar brawlers in trunks. Apart from Louis, Walcott and Charles (who were washed up by then), Marciano has fought noone worth mentioning. Just like Joe Calzaghe who fought mostly bums (except Kessler) to buff up his record untill he beat golden like Hopkins and Jones Jr. I agree with you on the Tyson thing too.
@QuincyAD87 Tyson fought a lot of VERY shitty fighters and looked good doing so. Angelo Dundee himself said that Tyson in his prime would be put to sleep by Ali in his prime, and Ali admitted that Marciano would have given him major problems. I dont think you understand how fucking hard that guy hit. He broke a sparring partners arm once. Who does that?? And how was Ezzard Charles washed up?
@QuincyAD87 thats true too,all the guys rocky did fight, most of them were bums, thats how a trainer keeps a good record and keeps the fighter thinking he is better then what he is,same with tysons trainer cus,he told tyson from when he trained him that he was the greats at ever thang he did to make him think he was the greatest.some of tysons fights were bums too.buster was a bum and ko tyson,i do think if 19 year old tyson vs rocky,i think rocky couldnt deal with that kind of a guy.
@QuincyAD87 any way your right about some of the guys rocky fights,i trian booxing for 2 years now.i also do heavy lifting, all i have to say is boxers go thorw hard cardio training.im strong as fuck i workout with 345 8 reps,my one year old video out here i did 315 9 times, but if i get in the ring with one of the kids at the boxing gym, they put hands on me,i cant catch some of the kids, there fast and hit hard and block great.great cardio.i have much respect for all the boxers ,
@QuincyAD87 sorry Ali's lover but marciano beat the shit out of 5 hall of famer .....only Ali do the same thing that all i have to say don't say shit about a guy like marciano respect one of the greatest
@QuincyAD87 I am fed up with nonsense like this. Was Marciano the greatest heavyweight of all time? Probably not, my money are on Jack Johnson or Joe Louis for that title.
Was he the greatest heavyweight of his time? Without a doubt. Who did he not fight? If the good heavyweights of his time was old, it is hardly his fault.
Dodging Liston? Some statement. You have psychic powers, since you ~know~ he did not retire from a back-injury? He was more likely to face Patterson than Liston anyway.
@LarS1963 But that's my point. It's not Rocky's fault but he thought during a time when the Heavyweight division didn't really count for shit. Who was around for him to fight, really? Old men like Louis, Charles and Walcott? THEY WERE WASHED UP. Take a look at Marciano's record. Who the hell on his record except the three old men he thought, are truly worth mentioning? He fought tomato cans most of his career. Fact!!!!
@QuincyAD87 Walcott was 38. He was certainly not washed up. When he took the belt prior to meeeting Marciano, he did that by KOing Charles. When he floored Marciano in first round of their championship bout, he didn't look washed up either.
Archie Moore washed up? That guy even fought Ali, years later.
Foreman says of Marciano: "Relentless, over his opponent all the time."
Moore: "Fighting Marciano was like fighting an airplane propeller."
@LarS1963 Joe Walcott was completely washed up. He'd been fighting professionaly for over 20 yrs and had over 69 fights under his belt by the time he got to Marciano. Stop lying to yourelf bud, he was a shot fighter. He didn't look washed up against Marciano because Marciano wasn't that good. How in the hell do you struggle against three fighters that are old and washed up? Sorry but Tyson would've put a 38 yr old Walcott to bed in the 1st round. Marciano is overrated just like Joe Calzaghe.
And, btw, comparing fighters from the fifties with fighters of today is ridiculous. Marciano wouldn't have a chance in modern boxing, no doctor would allow the punishment he sometimes had to take. Boxing as a game has evolved a lot, but at the same time it is not nearly as hard as it was.
Jack Johnsson was one of the all time greats, but how many seconds would he have lasted against Tyson or Lennox Lewis? A fighter has to be taken in context of his time.
@LarS1963 well first off, Rocky would not be a heavyweight nowdays. and 2, back then, all the great athletes were going into boxing. Now, thats only true at the lighter weight classes. the heavyweights nowdays are a bit slow. Rocky was tougher, and more skilled then people give him credit for. Just watch his defensive highlight
@QuincyAD87 How did rocky struggle? And Tyson fought a LOT of shitty fighters, and looked good doing so. To deny that, is just blind foolishness. Guy also had no heart, and no chin whatsoever. Who the fuck is Buster DouglesS??
@liam4444liam not going old school here but i think the best pound to pound would be sugar ray robinson, isn't the creation of pound to pound was invented because of him
Rocky is by far the best boxer who ever lived. He did fight alot of bums, but he also fought the best during that time. He took punishment like no one else, and always returned the favor. Never backing down, always pushing forward, throwing all his strength in most of his punches.
@WarriorrITALYGAY fucking stupid gipsy king eater paella don't talk about the glory and gladiators..there are not una stupid paeelina spanis in heaviweight champion of box..who is the spanish boxer?pedro almodovar?jajajajajaj
Rocco ! campione di tutti campioni ! il padrino del box ! un figlio d`italia ! un imperatore d`amore ! e rispetto per mike tyson, viva afrorocco ! e ViVa l`italia
Unbelievable that this guy out of the ring was really lovable guy who helped people all around him. It's like a dr jekyl and mr hyde thing. The guy comes in the ring to destroy his oponents most of them who are already half uncuncious get another blow to put them out for the night or worse.. This guy is a typical alpha male Cus D'amato already said it the guy believed it was impossible to be knocked out. Best white boxer we ever had and will have.
Wow, Rocco you are the best, a great fighter in the ring and from what I have read a nice guy out of the ring. Someone I can look up to, unlike a lot of these "sports stars" or whatever they call themselves nowadays.
Lesnar? As much of a UFC fan as I am, I doubt Lesnar would even last 30 sec under boxing rules..PLEASE don't be fooled by Rocky's size..history has shown that the hardest punchers who ever lived have weighed between 180 - 220. Even Carwin (who was a disgrace punching himself out after 63 punches) wouldn't last 30 sec.
@addikt06 There have also been many cases where the better boxer gets beaten by the better brawler. Ever heard the saying "box a brawler, and brawl a boxer"? It would be an interesting match, and I personally think Marciano would win that one. He's just relentless, with more heart, chin, cardio, and punching power.
@addikt06 4 rounds? ali would prbbly beat rocky but not in just 4 rounds i think theres an interwiev on youtube in which ali said that he would have problems when fighting marciano cuz rocky had weird style (somewhat simillar to oscar"s)
@osiris143 Good one! I think Ali lost half his brain cells in his 3 fights with Frazier. Frazier showed no respect for Ali's punching, walked him down and punched the hell out of him, I am sure Rocco would have done the same if not worse.
I know Liston was from the era after Marcaino. But that didn't stop Walcott , from era before Marcaino or Moore ,probably two or three eras before Marcaiano, from fighting Marcaino. What s good for the goose shoould be good for the ganda
charles had already lost 10 times before facing Marcaino . He lost to Lane and Walcott as well as losing via ko at middle to Lloyd.Marciano passed on big bucks by not fighting Patterson and Liston.
I think that not even kick from a horse to the chin would keep Rocco down. With that heart he could beat anyone, but nobody can know that for sure...not even you dopeFlavour.

Rocky Balboa is inspired by Rocky Marciano? If it is no wonder Sylvester Stallone made that epic movie. And to all people that say : Tyson will beat the s**t out of Marciano, you can`t be sure about that. "But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward"
diqn4o 10 months ago
@diqn4o Wepner vs Ali was the inspiration for the cinderella script but the character was modelled after Marciano and Frazier. The name is Rocky. He is Italian. He is from south Philly (Frazier) and is a swarming pressure fighter who is all heart and a fanatical trainer (ala both.) He is a southpaw (ala Frazier.) He pounded slabs of meat like Frazier did.
Tyson could not handle Marciano's fanatical mental and physical toughness.
mongoose704 9 months ago
I'm sorry I just googled and researched rocky's era they wear 5 oz gloves and Ali and Tyson's era they wear 12 oz gloves, damn Tyson hitting Rocky with a 5 oz glove I would not want to see that!
leeman3967 10 months ago
Just think about this,in Rockys era they wear 4 oz gloves and in foreman and tyson era they wear 10 oz gloves so just imaging foreman or tyson hitting rocky with with 4 oz gloves on the match wouldn't have lasted 1 round. Not trying to down talk Rocky but Ali,Foreman and Tyson are better skilled boxers than Rocky. Foreman or Tyson fighting with 4 oz gloves they would kill somebody!
leeman3967 10 months ago
Listen, Rocky has always been my favourite fighter. I love his determination, dedication and will to win. But he was not a gifted boxer and more importantly, like most fighters from his day, didnt defend himself well. Ali was too fast and skilled for Marciano. Ali would beat him. And Tyson would have beaten anybody in his prime. TYSON: the best fighter of all time
scoul11 10 months ago
@scoul11 ali wasnt to fast for if he wasnt for foreman. what held rocky was he could take hella hits and he was the hardest hitter in his rain of terror all his fights they said it was hell he would of knocked out ali and tyson. tyson was more of a street fight in his prime he loss to a guy 20 pounds less than him in a catch weight but he would beat ali i say
greg6218 10 months ago
@scoul11 Ali had trouble with guys he could not hurt and keep off him, ala Frazier. Even according to Frazier, Rocky was stronger and better conditioned (and Frazier was an absolute bull and a fanatical trainer.) Rocky had a stronger chin and power in both hands. Marciano's phenomenal conditioning, determination and relentless pressure and workrate break Ali's jab and then Ali. Rocky had an insane workrate. He threw 120+ punches a ROUND and he could keep that up for 15. Rocky by KO in 13

Rocky forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
temannopellaria 10 months ago
How can anyone compare Rocky to Ali or Tyson, shit just watch the video he misses almost 60% of his punches. Tyson would have knock Rocky out in the second round and Ali would have knock him out in the 4th round and why does everyone forget about BIG George Foreman, I don't even think Rocky would have attempt to fight Foreman,Foreman would've put Rocky to sleep in the first round

Rocky was great. Greatest? That'll always be up for debate. Right now, it has to be Mayweather, jr., right? 15-20 years ago we'd have to go with Julio Ceasar Chavez, correct? I have been following fighting for 30 years and there have been some greats. For my money, welterweights of the 80's were among the best fighters in one of the best eras ever (Leonard, Hearns, Hagler, Duran, etc.).
stkvox 11 months ago
@stkvox rocky raw he should be the greatest heavyweight since he was the hardest hitter and never loss but i agree with you.

sorry to all you Ali lovers, he would have had major problems against Rocky, he admited this himself.
aslo, Ali, whilst champion, also used marciano a a sparring and training partner. Ali, later in retirement, admited that those sparring sessions with Rocky was the hardest he had ever been hit in his life.

I saw the following on Wikipedia :
Marciano's punch was tested and it was featured in the December 1963 issue of Boxing Illustrated: "Marciano's knockout blow packs more explosive energy than an armor-piercing bullet and represents as much energy as would be required to spot lift 1000 pounds one foot off the ground."
That's some crazy shit.

Oscar on the other hand had a lot of big name fights.

ali is the bet marciano would have trouble hitting him. frazier is also better than rocky
messier991102 1 year ago

@QuincyAD87 i think rocky for his time was a great fighter, for a guy at 185 pounds he had a great punch, but mike tyson would put rocky to sleep, mike tyson was a hard puncher and could have been great but to much partying and to many bad people in hes life bringing him down.do i think all the guys he was fighting were bums,no,i think 43 knock outs are 43 knockouts,49 guys all couldnt have had weak chins,i mean buster that knocked out mike, that guy was a bum,
MegaBilley 1 year ago
@MegaBilley don't give me that 43 knockout mess. Marciano thought bums. You know it, I know it, the world knows. It's not hard to knock out bar brawlers in trunks. Apart from Louis, Walcott and Charles (who were washed up by then), Marciano has fought noone worth mentioning. Just like Joe Calzaghe who fought mostly bums (except Kessler) to buff up his record untill he beat golden like Hopkins and Jones Jr. I agree with you on the Tyson thing too.
QuincyAD87 1 year ago
@QuincyAD87 Tyson fought a lot of VERY shitty fighters and looked good doing so. Angelo Dundee himself said that Tyson in his prime would be put to sleep by Ali in his prime, and Ali admitted that Marciano would have given him major problems. I dont think you understand how fucking hard that guy hit. He broke a sparring partners arm once. Who does that?? And how was Ezzard Charles washed up?
joeberger 1 year ago
@QuincyAD87 thats true too,all the guys rocky did fight, most of them were bums, thats how a trainer keeps a good record and keeps the fighter thinking he is better then what he is,same with tysons trainer cus,he told tyson from when he trained him that he was the greats at ever thang he did to make him think he was the greatest.some of tysons fights were bums too.buster was a bum and ko tyson,i do think if 19 year old tyson vs rocky,i think rocky couldnt deal with that kind of a guy.

@QuincyAD87 sorry Ali's lover but marciano beat the shit out of 5 hall of famer .....only Ali do the same thing that all i have to say don't say shit about a guy like marciano respect one of the greatest
vivaasm 11 months ago
@QuincyAD87 I am fed up with nonsense like this. Was Marciano the greatest heavyweight of all time? Probably not, my money are on Jack Johnson or Joe Louis for that title.
Was he the greatest heavyweight of his time? Without a doubt. Who did he not fight? If the good heavyweights of his time was old, it is hardly his fault.
Dodging Liston? Some statement. You have psychic powers, since you ~know~ he did not retire from a back-injury? He was more likely to face Patterson than Liston anyway.
LarS1963 1 year ago
@LarS1963 But that's my point. It's not Rocky's fault but he thought during a time when the Heavyweight division didn't really count for shit. Who was around for him to fight, really? Old men like Louis, Charles and Walcott? THEY WERE WASHED UP. Take a look at Marciano's record. Who the hell on his record except the three old men he thought, are truly worth mentioning? He fought tomato cans most of his career. Fact!!!!
QuincyAD87 1 year ago
@QuincyAD87 Walcott was 38. He was certainly not washed up. When he took the belt prior to meeeting Marciano, he did that by KOing Charles. When he floored Marciano in first round of their championship bout, he didn't look washed up either.
Archie Moore washed up? That guy even fought Ali, years later.
Foreman says of Marciano: "Relentless, over his opponent all the time."
Moore: "Fighting Marciano was like fighting an airplane propeller."
Louis: "Everything about Marciano hurt."
LarS1963 1 year ago
@LarS1963 Joe Walcott was completely washed up. He'd been fighting professionaly for over 20 yrs and had over 69 fights under his belt by the time he got to Marciano. Stop lying to yourelf bud, he was a shot fighter. He didn't look washed up against Marciano because Marciano wasn't that good. How in the hell do you struggle against three fighters that are old and washed up? Sorry but Tyson would've put a 38 yr old Walcott to bed in the 1st round. Marciano is overrated just like Joe Calzaghe.
QuincyAD87 1 year ago
@QuincyAD87 Well, whatever. I disagree.
LarS1963 1 year ago
@LarS1963 well first off, Rocky would not be a heavyweight nowdays. and 2, back then, all the great athletes were going into boxing. Now, thats only true at the lighter weight classes. the heavyweights nowdays are a bit slow. Rocky was tougher, and more skilled then people give him credit for. Just watch his defensive highlight
joeberger 1 year ago
@QuincyAD87 How did rocky struggle? And Tyson fought a LOT of shitty fighters, and looked good doing so. To deny that, is just blind foolishness. Guy also had no heart, and no chin whatsoever. Who the fuck is Buster DouglesS??

He also candied out and refused to be in the service when he was drafted
While others had to go
No respect for Cassius clay (Ali)
