  • It is Moranis doing all the voices

  • talkin 'bout the free, yeah...

  • Eugene and Rick just finished laying the carpet in our basement.Love those guys!!

  • Absolutely hilarious. Hats off to the Canadians! This was and is my all time favorite show.

  • It is on DVD, in fact this episode has two other sketches that rib Michael McDonald!

  • Need a new rug..(yeah!! yeah!! yeah!!) (9am to 9pm all day saturday...yeah yeah!! Funny!!!!!!!

  • Aaaand the sale ends this Friday.

  • Loved this show before Marty Short joined; I didn't like Grinley at all.

  • I'm pretty sure this is on one of the SCTV DVD volumes. Anyway, it never fails to render me helpless with laughter--as does the entire Gerry Todd ouevre, the Mercury Players production of 'Murder in the Cathedral,' Sid Dithers, 'The Fella Who Couldn't Wait for Christmas,' Dr Cheryl Kinsey and on and on and on ...

  • @naizret It is on DVD, in fact this episode has two other sketches that rib Michael McDonald!

  • Yes, in fact this is a lot funnier if you can see the entire skit it comes from. It's from a long sketch of The Gerry Todd show, and in addition to this and singing backup on a Todd Monroe medley of Petula Clark songs, Michael McDonald does a video for "Ride Like the Wind" where they imagine his life must be nothing but rushing from one recording session to another to sing backup on yet one more song.

Man I miss SCTV. Nearly 30 years later and there's never been anything even close.

  • You can get this on DVD.

  • a response to kingalow's comment. i think that is Dave Thomas as Michael McDonald of The Doobie Brothers not Rick Moranis. Eugene Levy is the voice over of course.

  • yeah.. it was definitely "rockin mel slirrup" doing the voiceover.

  • "And labour day. That's a holiday."

I'm so god damn jealous of you Canadians. You have the funniest shows on all of TV!

  • Well, we used to have the funniest shows on television. Now everything is basically the same, American and Canadian. British shows are still funny though!

  • @c3section : Ya there are some funny ones. But like all TV it is still hit and miss. There still is some godawful programming. However.. SCTV and Trailer Park Boys probably rank 1 and 2 as two of the top Canadian comedies of all time.

  • @c3section Huh? Yeah, they have some funny shows, but the US has the best!!!

  • Rick Moranis is a genius...

  • @kingalow1 it is Euguene Levy in this bit.

  • @TamaraGorin55

    Fantastic stuff.

You're right - it's Levy as the announcer, but you can tell it's Moranis' voice singing as Michael MacDonald. Moranis was spoofing the Doobs later on this episode during the Gerry Todd Show.

Moranis sang a lot of silly shit on these shows - he was always spoofing goofy songs and serious singers...

Here's the proof: type Rick Moranis Michael MacDonald in youtube - it's great!

  • I loved their local commercial spoofs !

  • Sctvs improv based comedy tinged w/ heavy irony ..was a breath of fresh air for its time . Today , if your under 30 , you may not relate as much .

  • Need some Tex and Edna Boyle, so come on down

  • Not only do they get the Doobie Bros right, they get the low rent video quality of late 70's local TV commercials spot on.

  • These old SCTV clips take me back! Genius!
