Having lived directly with a tribe called the Krinkati for 8 years near a tributary of the Amazon...this was interesting...but nothing close to 'reality'...but who cares it is art none the less! :) This sounds much more africano than brazilian...:)
ok, just gonna throw it out there that almost every choir I've ever participated in (HS, District, All-State and Collegiate level) has at some point used movement/choreography... as far as the horizontal tone... it's supposed to be that way... they're imitating the sound of an old Indian tribe which wouldn't have tall concertized vowels..
Wow, your understanding of choral pedagogy is really limited isn't it? First of all, as a professor of choral pedagogy, I automatically dismiss anyone who says "never" and "always." Teachers should teach what is appropriate for the music. And that leads me to your second comment on the choir's tone: the tone production in this performance is precisely what the composer intended. You should really educate yourself before making such flippant comments.
Good rendering of the songs. Because these songs were arranged by a Brazilia composer, being a Brazilian myself, I would suggest more care with the consonant T, which in English should be aspirated, but not in this song.
u guys are really good. our choir is about to do this song and i just thought i'd look up some others. And just for the record the other people who commented have no idea wat they're tlking about.lol a director has the power to change and adjust a piece of music as he/she wishes... butyea liked the spred vowels on the "kamar" at measure 50 the pick up to the third verse or in this case the second since u rearranged the song order.... we're actually doing the same.
Umm...you toootally rushed through it and cut off waaay too soon @ the beginning. And ur only supposed to do the animal noises @ the beginning and the end. The sapranos and altos sounded really childish. Our MIDDLE SCHOOL choir sounds better than this. But maybe that's b/c were one of the best choirs in our county. This is all just my opinion don't attack me.
well.. the cut off is the director's preference... maybe yours' liked it longer...? the treble voices were supposed to imitate the voices of tribal women who obviously wouldn't have "concert" voices... not attacking, but just a hint... if you don't wanna be attacked, don't make such opinionated comments ;o)
I can make my comments as "opinionated" as i want them to be. I wasnt trying to be mean or anything and i said they sounded childish and i dont think that tribal women would sound like 10 year olds. It sounded like they were using their head voices. Maybe that's why? "just a hint" on songs like this you would use your chest voice b/c you would want it to sound like a tribe. All im sayin is it shoulda been a little louder.
that was my point.. ;o) I wasn't taking it as you being mean... I was just pointing out that if you make opinionated comments you're liable to be attacked
I would agree that the vowels were spread, but that's the way the I as a director would have liked it to sound too... it's supposed to be imitating a tribe... they wouldn't have trained "concertized" vowel sounds...
yea i know i sang this song but even our vowels werent this spread even though theyre suppost to be. and btw that supernushroom89 person is right we can make our comments as opinionated as we want to
I have no problem with people being opinionated, I was just responding to the part of the comment that said "this is all just my opinion don't attack me" and if you leave opinionated comments you're very liable to be "attacked"
In my opinion there needs to be some sort of uniform, which is how most schools are. The fact that the girls aren't wearing the same thing shows that there really isn't any unity at first glance. At my school, the girls wear long black dresses, the guys wear tuxes. If you try to walk in an adjudication looking like that, the judges might deduct points. I would know; my school has never gotten anything less than straight perfects. Also, if anyone is going to the NY adjudication in April, mssg me!
well... that's cool, but, this is just the spring concert... for every other concert they do wear black concert gowns but this concert gives the girls another chance to wear their prom dresses...
this comment is so pathetic... the piece sounds how it's supposed to sound.. the context of the actual concert and concert attire has nothing to do with the piece itself...
well, i would agree, but listening to this after being in an all-state choir doing it, its sounds a little...pathetic, like you say my comment is right?

Our choir, and the advanced choir, and the seventh and eighth grade choir are going to do this, but it's much slower.

in my choir we sang the whole song slower then this choir, but this one sounded good.

the vowels are spread, but that's the style of the song, which they created very effectively
nice work!

Every choir sings this song so differently. Especially mine. :3 Good job, but one girl had to bend down to get something at one point. xD
