  • great vids from the uk

  • @paulwall0007 I appreciate it, and if you ever have specific requests for English cuisine, let me know... I take requests.

  • It seems like I wont lose weight then. I am stressed out all the time and as unmotivated to exercise as it gets. "Just do it" is not motivation. And I also have frequent starvation phases where I am not hungry and I don't want to eat. Maybe low calorie and watching my fat has to be how it's done.

  • @Erinloveable The problem is that those things will affect any weight loss. Low carb is not unique in this regard. The good news is often it is small changes that can lead to big results. Small habits can lead to further actions, and for me the ease of following the low carb plan, made the starting good habits that much easier. Struggling with the eating and trying to hit the gym would have been the double whammy for me. At least with Atkins, I could focus on one and still eat things I like.

  • Anyone on the Atkins Diet should really research it. There is cases where people ended up with serious health problems from this diet including kidney failure. You may want to reconsider this diet.

  • @sizzlingsweet0820 Really where is the proof? I know of maybe two cases of people thinking they were doing Atkins (but weren't) that had issues. I on the other hand have done it for 7 years and my annual physicals and blood works have been fantastic. My doctor uses me as his poster child for what should be done.

Doing research at non-biased (aka not PETA or PCRM supported) sites leads me to believe this is best way for me to live.

  • i read that if your are insulin resistance and have high levels of insulin, it is hard to lose weight. do you think that is true? if so, does atkins help get your insulin under control?

  • @xjun2001 That is the key example for why Atkins works so well. From day 1, your insulin production should be put under control and leveled out. No longer are you subject to the blood glucose spikes and insulin dumps that your body was formerly subjected.

  • I weighed myself this morning after doing 2 weeks of induction and I weighed the exact same weight as before I started the diet! Is it possible I haven't lost any weight?? Or the scales are lying? I'm feeling very discouraged...

  • Hey, You can try That new intellectus 424 diet (Google it). I have lost lots of weight it is awesome.

  • i drink 5 cups of coffee a day. is that bad for weight loss. how come?

  • @ilovethechallenge caffeine stunts your weight loss

  • @ilovethechallenge The caffeine can stimulate the pancreas to release insulin in some people.

  • I'm only 11 and I weigh 135 I know it seems like alot but most of it is mussel when I first started this diet a Bout a half a month ago I wieghed 155 and it was before I even new about u so if u try hard enough u really can lose as much weight as you want :) good luck!

  • @Ilovemusic4900 Congrats!

  • I have been in ketosis for 13 days and i have only lost 4 pounds but i have lost 2 inches off my waist,i lift 3 days a week and you got to remember muscle weighs more than fat and with the Atkins you can actually loose body fat and gain a little muscle which will play havoc on the scale.

  • @hughesfan100 You are definitely on the right path. You are right about the muscle and especially as it needs to repair itself, it retains water as well.

  • Wait, What about if you gain weight? Is it your eating to much of certain things? Do you think alot of low carb bread and shredded chease can make you gain?

  • @musicluver71 I have made a video about overeating and possible weight gain on a low carb diet. The short answer is if you are eating roughly the right fat - protein rations it's tough during the weight loss phases to gain weight. (not including water weight). It is however more and more possible especially as you get closer to goal weight.

  • I've been on induction for almost 2 weeks. I've lost 9 pounds but i think i hit a plateau :( for four days i've been stuck at 182. Then today I was 182.8. I wanna go eat everything but i'm sticking with the diet. I hope it goes away in a few days. it's already almost been five days.

I hope not four weeks, Hellll nooooo. LOL.

  • @musicluver71 That's the danger of weighing every day. If it leads to too much frustration for what is normal (lose in spurts not an every day event or every week event), you might want to think about weighing less often. The weight is coming off, but the body readjusts from time to time. 5 days of no weight loss is honestly nothing.

You might be 2 or 3 days from losing 3-4 pounds in a single a day as the body releases the excess water.

  • @bowulf You're right. I think i'm going to weigh myself once a week. I've never stuck on a diet for this long, so i'm not giving up because of the scale... You did it, right? So can i.. Lucky, look at you so skinny, haha. I can't wait to be okay with my weight. thank god for this diet.

  • Ive been on for a week and my keto strips are still beige not purple!!!! and 0 weight loss!!! whats going on??

  • @armymomsb What are you eating? Are you menu's posted anywhere like Fitday?

  • I have lost a lot of weight, over 80lbs off the diet (with exercise). two weeks ago, i thought id speed up the success and cut off soda(which i drank heavily), and drink nothing but water (6-8 16.9ounce bottles/day). while continuing the diet and the routine with the cut off of sodas, ive noticed i gained 7lbs instead. its really discouraging, but im still staying with the diet, water, and exercise. Do you know why ive gained weight? im thinking its muscle gain, or water weight due to lack of it

  • @Romievizon First make sure you are tracking your measurements as you may be losing fat, but not recognizing it on the scale. I would likely attribute that sort of rapid weight gain to elevated sodium intake if nothing else has changed. The soda might have also been a bit of diuretic (Caffeine), and the body is working through establishing a water equilibrium again. Stay the course, and the excess water should disappear again shortly.

  • No dressings were added to my salads but plain. I will give it another go tomz hopefully and hopefully i feel fine. I really wabt to do atkins i even bought the atkins rev book. Ill plan my meals more. Thank you for your advice and support;)

  • I didnt have any white flour or anything. For breakfast i had two eggs for lunch i had fish wit my green salads and for dinner i had beef with my salads. I drank heaps of water throughout the day. I dont knw what i did wrong. I mean now im scared to strt the atkins agen. Im not a great fan of sweets more like spice and sour. I dont know! What you recommend?

  • @25taza One day of Atkins would not leave you vomiting or with your bones aching. I would make sure I was healthy first, plan your meals -- what you had sounds fine (what did you have on your salads? Any dressing?)

If you want to do the Atkins diet, you certainly can. I just think you are coincidental first start with something non-Atkins related.

  • I strtd induction today and it was soo horrible. I have a massive headache, i vomited lost heaps of electrolytes i looked dead basically only walking arund. My bones were aching.i drank heaps of water to flush everything out of my system but it

Didnt worm at all. Overall i had a very bad experience wit atkins. I weigh 65 152cm and i wnna lose 10kgs so i thught ill stick to my old diet which is eating healthy and continuing my aerobics and weight classes. But i would still like your advice!

  • @25taza What did you eat today? It sounds more like the flu or a stomach virus as opposed to Atkins with all the vomiting. The headache and fatigue symptoms, I can understand. With 10kg to lose, you might simply be benefited by eliminating the "whites" (sugar, flours, etc.) as much as possible as opposed to doing Atkins.

  • GREAT video again. I would like to agree with the hidden carbs. I have to account 1 carb per egg. Otherwise I don't lose. Same with diet soda or protein bars. Even if I count what they say I just won't lose. My third challenge is, as you said... under eating. I just finally feel so satiated that I forget to eat. I do greatest when I make sure I have the full20g carbs in green veggies and ALL my water! FABULOUS info! Thanks again.

  • help what is the best way to lose weight i am 13 and i most do this on my own and i don't have the money to get a trainner and i am not like fat fat but fat so please help!!! i have a question can i lose weight in my thighs? and hips?

  • @7720Love The good news is your young and your body will develop shortly, and it maybe will take care f itself. My eldest daughter pretty much lost 30 pounds just by taking up longer distance running (total of 10-18 miles a week). She ate better, but it wasn't drastic. Now at 5'10" and 150ish pounds, she is happy with her weight. It happened within a semester too. As for thighs and waist, there is no way to target, but it will shrink there as the total body fat decreases too.

  • this is a great video...keeps me trying! to get induction correctly..

  • I do know I am very metobolic resistiant and didn't lose anything the second week, I was eating 3-4 Atkins bars for 3 days because of stress ):

  • I seem to watch this vid over and over cause i'm not losing nothing but i was thinking mayb i'm expecting it too fast. seems as if i'm gaining. ive been on it for a week carb grams range from 20-75 although i have been sticking with 20-30. but i will stay on cause i enjoy the feeling of fullness.shoot mayb i need to make sure i'm not overeating.

  • @shsu97 You might think about the type of foods as well as the amount of carbs. Some people just simply can't handle things like nuts, cheese, eggs. You might need to restrict those types of foods (perhaps one type per week) to see if eliminating one gets you losing. Also make sure you are drinking your water as well.

  • Comment removed

  • @gooruraw "It is painful to listen too you talk. I can't watch you anymore!!! " Very helpful criticism, and next time I am looking for Simon I'll know who to call. Of course, I might even look for someone who has at least a clue.

Perhaps the critique should be on you, and your inability to deal with my talking. If I had zero viewers or zero views, I might believe you. You do realize with nearly 15000 views on this video and 4000 subscribers some must be getting the message.

  • @gooruraw 'cause really if you want to just be a troll, do it somewhere else...

  • Comment removed

  • @gooruraw But you were so important piece of my audience. What shall I do without my knowledge of you watching my videos?

(sarcasm off) I hope you find someone else more to your liking, and I'll refund your cost of watch it.

  • @bowulf I just remove the replies from hecklers. Isn't it sad that they don't have anything to do but interfere with those of us that really want to learn something? You are doing a great service and explaining things that I haven't been able to find before. Thanks.

  • Bowulf, I've been on the Atkins for a week.. I have weighed myself this morning and I haven't lost a single pound. I thought most people lost weight in their first week, I'm not on any medication. I'm only taking 20g of carbs per day, haven't had any sugar for a week and have stuck to the diet religiously. I drink 2 litres of water a day, a habit I developed about a year ago. What should I do? I can't believe I've not lost any weight at all on the Atkins. Why am I not in Ketosis? Please help me.

  • @xnataliexlarax I do also have a video called not losing on Induction that you might want to watch as well.

    * Start tracking the food you are eating at Fitday/Dailyplate, send me the journal link

    * You might be sensitive to a food group you are still eating (like dairy)

    * If you are eating as prescribed, you are in ketosis. You can overeat in ketosis, but it's hard.

    * How much do you have to lose? People with less to lose tend to retain water more, so still losing but the water will drop latr

  • @bowulf Thank you.. I'm trying to get back down to 9st and i'm currently 11st 4. I've gained the weight steadily over the last 2 years so that's approx 32 pounds. My appetite has stopped entirely so I thought the diet was working. I've mainly been eating eggs and bacon, chicken, tuna mayonnaise. This sort of thing, I've been writing a journal for a week, I'll comprise the week food together and send you the link. I haven't bought any ketosis strips yet, do you think I should? Thank you :)

  • @bowulf Ooh at fitday or dailyplate - will do thanks :)

  • thank man

  • This guy actually believes in Atkins? You need carbs in your diet otherwise you just plateau when losing weight because your body adjusts its metabolism to adjust for the new changes to your diet. What that means is you stop losing fat and therefore stop losing weight. Atkins does not work. Do not attempt. Do not use this system to attempt to lose weight. Simply eat more low fat foods and exercise. When you exercise, your metabolism increases and you may need to eat more carbs.

  • @fabsIsWatching Let's see the low fat approach has worked so well up until now, we should continue. Right....

I lost 211 pounds doing Atkins over the course 15 months. It's been off for over 5 years now. My metabolism has never been better on Atkins. I went from 47% body fat to 11%.

Boy I love experts in their own mind who happen by, and think they can contribute without actually listening. Atkins Diet and low carb is the only thing that works for me and countless others.

  • @bowulf At least you exercise, other people who rely on you for advice dont exercise. Perhaps that is the reason you are able to maintain your weight. Plus, I have different goals then you so I shouldn't have even watched your video. I am looking to gain lean muscle. You are looking to maintain low body fat and low weight. 2 seperate goals means that there must be seperate approaches to these goals.

  • @fabsIsWatching Well they aren't following the plan if they are not exercising. I am not sure Dr. Atkins could have been any clearer on the issue. "Exercise is non-negotiable." People hear what they want, but the message is there. In either case, 211 pounds was lost due to Atkins and exercise, and before Atkins, the exercise and the energy were never there.

As for lean body mass, there is no better plan to preserve and feed muscle gains than low carb. It certainly has boosted my max lifts.

  • @bowulf Just as a side note, you are very difficult to listen to. You should have a clear thought before saying anything. Throughout the entire video I wondered if you had a speech impediment.

  • @fabsIsWatching With over 14,000 views and 108 comments, I am guessing the message is watchable enough. If you think you can do better, feel free to promote your low fat lifestyle. I am doing great with mine.

As for a speech impediment, take your concern elsewhere. You have just migrated into troll territory.

  • I just finished my first week of induction. I had <20 carbs each day but did not lose any weight. Can't figure out why?? On the up side, I feel fantastic!!!! I have a lot more energy and the brain fog i always have is gone. Belly bloat and foot swelling is gone too! How can all that happen... and yet no weight lost?? Doesn't make any sense!

  • @cathytress Chances are the losses are actually there, but present in the retained water as the body readjusts to the new lower weight. Most people drop the water as the glycogen is burned off, but some hold on to it -- perhaps due to electrolyte imbalance. (too much sodium)

You are seeing the other benefits. The weight loss one is just right around the corner.

  • I cant speak for others but the one thing I learned about myself on this diet was how much of a sick sugar addict I was! I had no idea how hooked I was to sugar I was really no different from a drug addict only I didn't know it. I thought I just needed cake because I would think about cake all the time and had no idea why I was obsessed with certain foods*lol Once I broke the addition thanks to you and Dr. Atkins after being made aware of it I became another person (cont)

  • I dont look at anything the same way I used to. This diet didn't just help save my life it altered my brain chemistry its as if someone hit the re-set button and I was re born. I cant thank you and Dr.Atkins enough! Thank you for helping free me!!

  • @DealGuide It is my pleasure. I know from where you are coming. My life has dramatically changed, and I can't believe the difference myself. Breaking that obsession with food is an amazing feeling.

  • How much cardio do you do on average? So far from what I have seen cardio breaks all remaining barriers to fast weight loss. I try to limt myself to 15 carbs a day but I am sure I am sneaking in another 5 to ten here and their by slim jims and crystal light *lol but I do cardio like im possessed by devil! Every day I do an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening I also dont hold back on food if I am hungry I eat until I am not but I dont lie to myself if Im not hungry I dont eat.

  • @DealGuide I do roughly a hour routinely each day of running, elliptical, or biking. Some days it is more that like Saturday (2-3.5 hours of running) and my weight lifting days (typically 1 hour of lifting plus 30-75 minutes of elliptical). I started much less than that -- biking leisurely (12mph) for 30-60 minutes 3-5 days a week.

It sounds like you are definitely on the right route. Just keep eating right as you are hungry to prevent starvation mode and over-training.

  • Hi, i was just wondering if it matters how many carbs i eat at once? For the day, i'm at around 30 carbs, and 79 grams of protein, but i only eat about two meals a day. Does eating my carbs in a high portion at one time matter if it all balances out at the end of the day?

  • how long did you do atkins before your stall and how long did it last

  • I never had an official stall (4 weeks without losing). The longest I think I went was 1.5-2 weeks without losing during Induction and OWL phases, and that might have been after 6-8 months.

  • Hi hon. :)

I haven't lost any weight or inches in weeks, however, when I test my urine with Ketostix it ALWAYS tells me that I'm in the highest range of Ketosis (though I check it less and less frequently these days).

Does that rule out too much / not enough carb intake?

  • That should say you are definitely not getting too few carbs, but it may not indicate you may not be getting enough of them. Have you started progressing up the OWL ladder yet or increasing your carb count from the Induction levels?

Your body may telling you it is time to move on to the next phase. I can't say for certain, but it would one thing I would have in the back in my mind.

  • you talk aloud of shite lol no affense

  • ummm ok?

  • Although with the spelling mistakes, I have no clue what you are actually saying...

  • I think I finally understood why I wasn't losing on Induction... I totally cheated with dairy products (heavy cream and cheese). Once I had these 2-3 tablespoons of heavy cream a day I just could not help having more, it was that tasty. So I got rid of all the salad and replaced it with dairy (technically still within 20 gr net carbs). Looks like it won't work this way though... shame

  • I can't seem to get myself to eat enough. Are I still supposed to eat around 2000 calories a day? Because I eat significantly less, not because of fear of calories, but because I'm just not hungry even with exercise.

  • You should eat at least over ~500 Calories under your BMR. There are a number of BMR calculators online that can assist in finding yours. If you are significantly under your BMR (>500 Calories), you might add more fats like butter or olive oil into your diet or in sauteeing your vegetables.

What are your daily menus like?

  • Just started yesterday. I usually eat some boiled or scrambled eggs for breakfast, along with some cucumber (weird taste buds lol).

I usually don't eat lunch because my classes are always around lunch time.

For dinner I try to make up the calories with some ground beef I make into patties or meatballs and eating them with some broccoli. I'm afraid to use olive oil because my cooking sucks and the last thing I need is to burn the kitchen down, but I'll look up some recipes and give it a try.

  • Also, I use Fitday to help me out, but it's hard for me to balance a college budget ( because now I actually have money) with the food at my grocery store! DX

  • I understand. When I first started, I generally ate the same basic things each day as it was safe and generally cheaper. As I got more comfortable in the kitchen and with the diet, my horizons expanded. If you'd add just a couple ounces of cheese or 1 TBS of butter to your broccoli, you'd bump up your Calories by 200-300 Calories, and shouldn't have to worry about too few Calories at all.

  • I love your videos!! I have been on induction, eating only 20 carbs per day..for 4 days now..I haven't lost any weight. I have been drinking a coffee daily with sweetner and eatin lots of acceptable greens and meats. I am going to follow your advice about the water. I'm not vey hungry anymore like I use to be so I'm hoping it's just taking some time for my body to adjust..I will be be buying some ketone strips today.Very frustrating when I see other people lose all this weight in the first week!

  • I'm still drinking half calf /coffee and sweetnlow will that stall my weightloss...and can I workout 45 minutes a day....I ride a mountain bike trainoer program and a few weights in this 45 minutes????

  • Went over 1/2 mile to this one for a total thus far of 1.42 miles. Great video. Gonna finish my walk watching your accountability video.

  • Watch the sodium, also aspartame in diet soda's. Diet rite is a great substitute to cola.

  • also, shop right sellsa soda called Waist Watchers. They are delicious and all use slpenda instead of sugar. They have a chocolate fudge flavor that I am addicted to!

  • I use Splenda in my coffee, I have read that this can slow weight loss (even if you count the carbs)??? Citric acid in diet pop as well???? I have come to a stop in my weight loss, and am really annoyed.... any other tips?

  • Yep, just talked about it in my latest video. In some people, even faux sweetness can cause an insulin reaction. If you are having problems losing, certainly start looking at the list in this video or the latest one. Things like excess dairy or caffeine can all cause these stalls as well.

  • Thanks so much for your videos very encouraging indeed! Just wondering what your views are on the Atkins diet and diabetes/ heart disease. The reason why I'm asking is because my mom has both and is in hospital and the situation has shocked me into change. So I've seriously started the diet and am watching your videos for motivation. Your insight would be most helpful. I don't want to end up like my mother.

  • I have actually made a couple videos about the topic. If you search Atkins Diet and Diabetes here on Youtube or Atkins Diet and Cholesterol, you'll find about 30 minutes or more dedicated to just those two subjects by me. The short answer 30 second answer is Atkins Diet should improve both or prevent both by lowering all risk factors, which has been proven in multiple studies.

  • You say zero carbs are good for hyperinsulinaemia. Where did you get that information? I've been googling and cannot find ANY suggestions for that condition, except from yourself. Do pm me let me know?

  • Zero carb *may* be good for extreme cases of hyperinsulinaemia. Most people with insulin sensitivity are helped by simply following a low carb approach. My source for the information has been Atkins material (where he suggests a temporary fat fast) in his book and other zero carbers at places like Zeroing in on Health.

  • Never heard of that last site but will go look now, so THANKS for that. I have tried the fat fast three times but each time, about 6 to 8 hours into it something inside me snaps and I suddenly, impulsively, eat something I shouldn't. with bmi 56, in ndesperate need of help, as you can imagine....

  • Remember, citric acid and Aspartame which is found in splenda and sugar free jello, slows down weight loss. Just because it says 0 carbs doesn't mean it is. Try drinking plain water without any flavor and stay away from diet codas. You will see results quicker. Trust me.

  • I agree water and staying away from aspartame is best.

Just a word of correction, splenda does not contain aspartame that's Nutra-Sweet. Splenda is the commercial name for sucralose. Splenda should not have the insulin reaction that aspartame can cause in the amounts allowed on the diet.; however some ppl are certainly sensitive to it.

  • i have practiced Atkins diet for 4 days

and i havent gone to the toilet(not including urinating of course) for 4 days is it normal?

i have eaten a lot of vege and meat during these 4 days

also is it ok to drink pepsi max? it claim it contains no sugar and carb

but should i believe them? do you drink those sugar free soda and Atkin still work for you?

  • That is not normal. I would encourage you to start taking 1 TBS per day of either psyllium husk or flax meal. Either is a good choice, but I prefer ground flax as I include it in things like mock danish or salads.

Re: pepsi max or caffeine diet soda, Dr. A saw caffeine cause stalls in at least a quarter of his patients. I personally gave up 4 liter per day Diet Dew for year after starting Atkins. I added it slowly back in as I could tell the result myself.

  • It's like any food that might cause stalls: leave it out for the first 14 days or during Induction, and then you can evaluate the result of adding it back for yourself. If you stop losing or lose more slowly, you know where to cut.

  • thanks for your respond man i really appreciate it!

    i have one more question

is honeydew melon really alright to eat for the atkins dieters? yes the atkins diet list says its alright to eat since it contains low carb but sometimes i hesitate to eat it because it taste really really sweet, sweeter than watermelon,

  • isnt sugar not allowed in atkins diet? one of the wean why watermelons arent allowed

i just want to double confirm it from an expert like you so i can eat it without a worry

    thanks

  • Honeydew and cantaloupe are allowed on the rung of OWL where you add melon and other fruits. Just add only 5 net gram additional per day (which might only be a small slice) until you don't lose weight. If that is immediate for you, then you know you can't tolerate it yet.

    >>isnt sugar not allowed in atkins diet?

Just out my "is all sugar eliminated video" -- it is about the approriate time for the natural sugar not the added sugars in foods. Tomatoes have sugar and are allowed from day 1.

  • Hi Kent

I have been on induction, but the atkins bars stalls my weight loss. ? why?

Also what should be the fat content in Pre maintenance phase? Should it still be around 50%?

  • Because they (bars) do that to a lot of people. Watch my net impact vs. net carbs video -- I am of the opinion the whole net effective or net impact carbs delude people into having more carbs than they normally woud. I would recommend not eating them as much as possible.

Fat Content in pre-maintenance should be around 45-60% depending on taste and carb sensitivity.

  • I eat the Atkins bars after dinner as a treat not as a meal replacement. I love the Peanut Butter cups, but there is 160 calories in them so you have to watch it. But they are soooo good!

  • HELP! My Dr. said I have to lose weight - they put me on a 1200 calorie diet with mostly carbs and I gained weight. I decided to switch to Atkins, did induction for 2 months 0 weight,0 inches lost! did FatFast for 5 days, lost 4 pounds! switched back to induction and in the last three days I gained 2 pounds. I don't know what to do

  • I would suggest starting to track your food intake at a site like Fitday or Mydailyplate. I can then peruse your menus after a few days and perhaps capture something you might have missed. Check out my "why am I not losing?" video, and perhaps you find something that resonates with you as well.

  • I think alot people think that when they start atkins that its about meat meat meat but that simply isnt the case..there are many other alternatives to high meat or animal product consumption.

Eating lots of vegetables and a reasonable amout of meat will be quite fine and you wont be lacking anything. Also too I realized that half the time when I thought I was "hungry" I really needed to hydrate. Thats why I drank so much water rather than throwing something in my mouth. Good luck everyone!

  • Yep, and I did emphasize in part 2 of this video ("what to do about a stall?" video) that one strategy may be to progress to OWL especially if you are one of these long time Inductioneers. Even if it is just eating more leafy, non-starchy vegetables. Drinking more water is another one of that video suggestions.

While I am probably much higher in meat consumption to support my marathon running and resistance training, I do eat more veggies (4-5 cups/day) now than I ever did prior to Atkins.

  • I have been doing the low carb low fat diet and I have lost 17lbs (in 3 weeks...no joke) Its like every other day two pounds have dropped. I also jog everyday for about 50 minutes and the weight is coming off. Prior to this I did low carb and not alot of weight came off because I was eatting too high of a content of fat. I wish everyone the best!

  • I am always leery of a low fat low carb diet as it usually translates into a very low calorie diet as well. because if you are eliminating one major fuel source you need to replace it with something, The ideal Induction menus should be about 60-65% fat- one reason lean protein is perhaps less desirable replacement is that you can't eat enough and digest protein to replace the energy lost without it also causing an insulin reaction.

But if it is working for you, great and I wish you much luck.

  • you can lower your fat content and still maintain health, not to the point where you are eatting no fat, many veggies have fat (a much smaller amount than that of animal products) but its still there and as long as you eat a reasonable amount and the right kind such as chicken and fish as opposed to red meat. My first time around I drank diet soda which completely sabotaged my efforts. Once I cut that out along with the sausage and eggs the weight fell off. good luck to you!

  • Well I dont know if I would call it a plateau or a stall because he only lost 4 lbs and that was in the begining. Perhaps he is eatting too high of a content of fat. Perhaps if he lowers the fat and simply eat more veggies and very little processed foods then maybe the weight will start to come off. Also too I wonder if the body building has alot to do with the weight management he is experiencing.

  • Well I can only advocate from what worked for me - Atkins, and raising carbs initially or deviating from the plan seems likely with danger. Most people need the fuel replacement of the fat, and of course, the whole point of Induction is to get into ketosis is primary fat burning for fuel. Certainly #4 addresses eating when you aren't hungry.

I agree weight lifting very well could cause the temporary weight gain as the body retains water to repair the micro-tears of the muscle tissue.

  • for an asian whoes primary food is rice this is going to be hard...haha

  • It would be, but it was definitely hard for this American whose major food source was pizza and chinese buffets too. :-)

  • And....I am measuring my lettuce ...lol I have 2 cups of romaine and one cup of veggies and ceaser or blue cheese dressing. Measuring carbs is how it is going to be until I KNOW how much I can have.

  • Well, I am down to 183 today from 208...so it is FINALLY working. ANd I am doing 30 to 40 mins of cardio and 400 sit ups and cut back on heavy weights. I did get a diet sunkist sparking lemonade I found says zero carbs and have a glass or 2 when I get cravings. Once in a while a shake. I do eat blue cheese dressing at one place where they said it has VERY low sugar, and I do not taste it, and my ketosis is purple on the strips, so I am sticking to what I am doing. Losing more inches then pounds.

  • I'm in induction Started last monday and have already lost 10lbs but I'm starving myself... so idk I'm on the same boat as you were I'm half way to my 10% induction weight loss, It's just so disheartning to get on the scale and be like yes i lost two pounds and then eat something and go right back up... I'm excercising and eating very little

  • so a person can lose inches when the scale is not moving down? i haven't lost anything yet, but i should measure myself for inches lost right?

  • Absolutely... The point is you may be losing body fat but retaining water until the body determines it does not need it any longer. You should be measuring in any case as it will help determine body fat %.

  • is salad ok to eat all the time and abit of balsamic vinegar? also can i eat peppers?

  • It sounds like you might need to review the Acceptable Foods List. I have made a video or you can google the list. Balsamic Vinegar has typically sugar in it. Lettuce and Peppers are both salad veggies and limited to 3 cups per day on Induction.

  • But I am still staying with it..I just hope my weekend did not ruin things but I am sure it will slow me down. I know how sensitive this diet works. It just means I really need to pay more attention. The server was POSITIVE there was no sugar, and found out after the fact there was. Anyway, good luck everyone. I am not giving up!! But man, sometimes little things like that just really tick me off.

  • I had a similar happening in Boston a few years ago with Coke vs. Diet Coke after drinking 2 or 3 glasses. I was similarly ticked off at the server. It's good that you don't allow external affect inner motivation.

  • Day 6, down 4. I did have a nasty experience over the weekend though; learned a valuable lesson. I odered tuna salad...long story short, learned the restaraunt had used a lot of sugar in the making of it. The server felt bad, but came to the table after I ate it and had specifically asked if it was made without sugar. Then Sunday I had an omelette at IHOP not knowing they added pancake batter to them. So people, make sure you read menus and really drill servers!!! I am no longer in ketosis.

  • I agree with you, I am just getting frustrated. I actually just got home from the store and bought some chicken, skin on, corned beef ith 1 carb per serving and a lunch meat I found..fried chiken (shaved) with one carb per serving as well. The servings are per every 2 oz. I will also have 2 small Caeser Salads a day and one cup of spaghetti squash. This should be fatty enough and I will just ahve 6 or 5 smaller meals. I as afraid of to lean as well. Tomorrow, I will once again start, UUgghh.

  • Last year I was 155 @ 14% body fat...I get very big NATURALLY ....so again, starting over may help. I bought Spaghetti Squash, turkey and some lean rare red meat. Wish me luck guys...something has GOT to give here. I havhe been on crutches about a year from a bad horse wreck...so I have learned ho to be patient..lol

  • I am leery of trying to do the diet "lean," as you once you cut the fat, how do you fuel the body. The only thing left is protein, which isn't as efficient as either fat or carbs and excess can rapidly affect blood sugar as well. That's just my philosophy on high fat vs high protein.

If you have a video or digital camera, you might want to check out my latest video re: Atkins Boot camp as well.

  • Great video, Kent... The only thing I would add to your list is muscle gain. If a person is doing a lot of muscle-building exercise, they could still be actually losing a lot of fat per week, but gaining enough muscle in the process to make it seem like they aren't losing anything.

  • Yep that was my train of thinking with the measurements recommendations. Without measuring yourself you won't capture the weight distribution change from weight in fat to weight in muscles. There are a number of sites that will take those measurements and give a semi-reliable Body Fat % which should enable you know how much fat you've lost.

For example, if you are losing a number of inches off your chest and stomach, but still not losing the weight is going to muscle. Thanks for comments.

  • Ultimist....I dont know what is going on..I got so mad I carbed out for a week...like a fool. But I am back to it. Just being really strict. I am built big anyway, a good weight for me is about 150 believe it or not and I am 5 feet tall. Genitically I am just not tiny...I just dont get why it is not working this time. So, once again I am starting tomorrow. I dont seem to be losing inches...so maybe being a pig for 2 weeks and starting fresh will help. lol :)

  • For dessert I eat those low carb ice cream bars. I per day. Should I ditch?

  • If you are losing or as fast as you would like, yes. They are full of sugar alcohols which absolutely should be counted against your daily carb intake.

  • Well, I went and bought the New Diet Revolution Book, I read it front to back and feel I better know what I need to be doing. Sorry to keep bugging you guys, I am having SYCH a hard time getting this right. I did clean out my cupboards and fridge, and think I have it under control..so back ro day "1" tomorrow. Any suggestions on a meal plan? I just want ideas of what others do and make sure I am not eating too much.

  • Check my menus blog for ideas. (google bowulf menus blog) You'll have to remove the non-Induction legal foods, but there are lots of good past menus in that blog.

  • Atkins bars! Ditch them! I never lose when I eat them. Even one affects me. A lot of cash to screw up your diet.

The recipes here are great. Use em.

  • Absolutely agree... They are a convenience food only for extreme circumstances, and I am afraid way too many people make them a staple. Atkins was all about real unprocessed food as much as possible, not commercially thrown together junk food.

  • I tested my urine this morning and I am in full blown ketosis...so I am going to cut out the atkins bars anyway, stick with eggs and cheese for breakfast or the taco salad idea you gave, and break all my meals into 6 small ones including 2 salads and just drink water or unsweet tea with an occasional packet of equal or splenda. Thanks for your help. I will keep ya posted. I need to drop about 50 or 60 pounds and think I can do it by June.

  • Sounds like a good idea. Some times it is simply more about what the brain thinks it needs to release (insulin) than what is required, and some people are just more sensitive to even the hint of sweetness or other even potentially things like cheese. Good luck, and keep me updated on your progress.

  • ok, I will stop eating the bars and no more sweetners. I think that may be doing it...just water and unsweet tea...I do eat 2 small salads a day as well wiyh a small ammount of ranch or blue cheese and 2 to 7 scallions a day. I am very careful on lunch meats like turkey and salami and always ask the carb count and get the LOW ones (1 to 3 carbs perserving) tons of tuna and mayo...and eggs with cheese.

  • Help!! I am a nut case. I did this for 14 days and lost NOTHING and went off the deep end and said screw it...well I want to do it again (back on 3 days now). I know this works!! I do go to the gym 4 to 5 days a week, lifting weights and sit ups. I do eat all the meat and eggs recommended and 2 or 3 of the atkins bars. Maybe I am just being impatient...can someone e mail me what exactly I should be doing?

  • My initial read on your menus is I don't see any vegetables on it, Atkins bars are known stallers, how much water were you drinking, and potentially putting yourself in starvation mode from too few Calories in regard to the exercise (just a guess though).

As for what to do, just eat from Induction Legal foods and follow the rules as described in my first few Induction videos. Don't eat any artificial sweeteners or diet sodas. You may be very sensitive to sweetness. Post your menus everyday

  • WeimaranerKisses, since you mentioned that you do a lot of weightlifting, I suspect that you are losing tons of fat, but gaining muscle in its place, which (on the scale) makes it seem like you aren't losing anything. Under the surface you're probably getting into great shape without realizing it. You should start taking measurements of your waist, chest, and key points on your arms and legs to see if you are losing inches, rather than "weight."

  • Kent,,,

Thank you so much for a GREAT video.... Guess what? th only thing I drink is crystal light ..... so that made me kinda sad to think that this could be why i am not taking off the weight as fast as I did in the first two weeks.....I do have a couple of questions that i haope you can answer.. first, is there anything I can do to speed up my matabalisims( ? spelling) . my other question is how do I get rid of all my water weight?

    Thanks

  • Hey I have been doing the Atkins diet for 2 weeks as of today. In my first week I lost a shocking 20 pounds which made me extremely pumped and happy to see such great results so fast. However, like I said above today is my 2 week mark and I haven't lost any wait during the second week. Ive been extremely careful with my carb intake limiting myself to no more then 1 or 2 carbs a day. I intend to do the induction phase for another month but was wondering what could of caused my plateau in week 2?

  • Check out my post induction stall syndrome (P.I.S.S.) video where I talk about these common initial stalls following large losses. The body is typically just resettling and setting up for another large loss.

  • good video.

  • Well I think the fact that he is also weight training three times a week, you need to take that in consideration. With the amount of protein and weight training I wouldn't doubt hes just adding muscle. As we all know muscle ways more than fat. Just a thought.

  • Which is the reason I keep stressing for people to start measuring yourself. They may be losing lots of inches and gaining muscle without seeing it in the mirror.

  • Does a bannana hava a carbs

  • Yes, it is actually one of the higher carbs fruit.

  • bowulf...question for you....i have been on the diet now for a month and week....i lost about 17 lbs in the first two weeks....now i just fluctuate gain two pounds lose two pounds and so on....no big loses....I am on a highblood pressure pill or beta blocker...can this be the cause???

  • It's likely part Post Induction Stall Syndrome (see my video for what that is) and maybe some of the medication role. That does not mean it isn't possible. It may just take longer.

Additionally, I would start like I said in the video posting my foods in Fitday and being sure I was accurate in measuring those things that need to be measured (like cheese).

If all else fails, start limiting some stallers - artificial sweeteners, cheese, other dairy, etc.

  • You're my hero

  • Thank you - just doing my job as a volunteer LC evangelist. :-)

  • P.S. congrats on your weight loss, I'm sure your body appreciates you on every level.

  • My problem is not eating enough, I hate eating since I tried phen phen way back when. Now that I don't have the pressure of my mother forcing me to eat I have no desire to eat and now my metabolism has shut down completely to the point of not being able to lose the weight, as far as your vegetarian diet I tried that as well only to leave me famished because of the enzymes. It's a hit or miss for me.

  • For me the problem of not eating enough usually gets fixed as my athletic performance decreases. I am too competitive to starve myself to lower performance or slower times, so as soon as I get that fatgiued feeling or can't run as fast as I should in my marathon training, I know I have been depriving myself.

Perhaps increasing exercise would stimulate a greater hunger in yourself and reenergize your metabolism. Just a thought, and I hope you find your success.

  • Very helpful information Kent, you Rock Buddy..

  • Thanks, it was my pleasure. I hope this video helps.

  • You mentioned you had a EMS call, are you a paramedic?

  • No, just an EMT-B in progress so far...

  • I am also a volunteer fireman too as well in addition to my regular job as a network engineer.

  • Dear Bowulf, is it possible to reach a plateau within the first week of induction? Because i havent lost any weight yet, maybe i even gained some weight, ive actually been eating a lot of meat and whatnot? Should I actually eat less or what could it be, thanks.

  • I would suggest you start menu at thedailyplate dot c om, and I and others can see what you've been eating. Give me a daily menu of what and how much you've been eating, but I would really recommend the above site.

  • haha good information but it's kinda distracting how your trying to make it look like your not reading everything your saying...lol

  • Yep, these info packed videos I have to show notes or I am liable to miss something. I make no allusions that I absolutely need some form a teleprompter to read the blog post that I basically write before each video.

I appreciate you watching and commenting.

  • A very informative video! Thank you!

  • Great Video!!
