Slayer took punk songs and sped them up to really fast tempos. Megadeth covered Anarchy in the UK. Scott Ian and Charlie Benante were in SOD. Metal musicians listen to punk and hardcore heavily. Over here in the NYC area, the ninjas are always around at metal shows. It's just how it is.
