Yes they can ^^ When Ryuk explains to Light that when he excepted the Death Note that he would not go to heaven or hell. Well in the Directors Uncut version there is a scene where a Shinigami approaches Ryuk(who looks to have aged). That Shinigami is actually Light, but it seems as if he has no memory of his human life.
