I heard George and the Destroyers in 1977 in a bar in Berkeley, California after their first album came out. Before every Hank Williams song he played, George said, "This is a song by Hank Williams SENIOR!"
Humble guy... Knows what he does, and does it GREAT!!! That is what makes a great entertainer.. thanks for keeping the old bo diddly sound alive, with a touch of your own too george...
Got to love the difference between George and thr narrator. The narrator is halfay into R'N'R hall of fame and George says he plays all those styles because he's can't play one style good enough to fill an album! He could open a humble pie bakery for silly rock "stars" and make a fortune!
Yeap! Be it as you say... but we know him, and listen to his songs... We don't know you and we don't listen... And he's there since 30 years ago... You're entitled to your own opinion.
tugywar.. you about a stupid twit and do not shit from shine-ola. You have no music sense at all. George is the best and been around probably before you were born. You must like rap crap.
I saw him in Tulsa,Ok, back in-I guess it might've been the 80's(?)at the Cain's Ballroom. Tickets were $11. The show was supposed to start @8:00, but there was some kind of screwup(this was during his'50 states in 50 dates'tour, and maybe they got lost; they were driving themselves in what looked like a white bread truck) and they didn't get onstage till maybe 10:00.Once they started, they charged right into it, and were still going when I left, somewhat deafened, at 5:00 the next morning.
I saw him the the Superdome in Nawlins my home town "day of Rock and Roll" he did the Duck Walk from one side of the dome to the other and back and if you have been in the Dome you know that stage was huge! GT Rocks! Thank you Goerge can we cut a record together;)
i love george but that comentator got his facts wrong george didn't write get a haircut it was written by a guy/band in australia and while on tour there they heard it and knew it was right for them so one of the destroyer's members stayed behind to get a copy to take back and record.
Im a 41 year old Aussie Rocker i have seen George Thorogood and the Destroyers live in Concert in Melbourne 4 times going back 2 the 80s u cant beat raw blues rock and boogie it beats the living shit outta the music they bring out these days
man you aint kiddin!!!! songs these days aint got soul brother, that's what the old rock and blues had!!! you could feel it then, nowdays it aint worth listening to
I seen him twice London/Launceston,Tasmania. I agree with you rockaussie, it is timeless music that shapes your soul, whereass today its like a 2 stroke motor.
Hey, miceandmen. I personally love his voice. Its raw and tortured. Awesome. Just what rock/blues needs. Now, someone like Celine Dion (for example-Im not a fan) is, no doubt, talented and can carry a variaty of notes. Thats FANTASTIC for HER genre. Would you see her in rock/blues anytime soon? I don't think so.
It's a matter of how he feels while he's playing, and how his fans feel while they're listening. He's a great frontman (and they can't all be like Elvis), which is all-important to sidemen looking to play for a living.

George is the Ramones of the blues... Every song has the same formula. How he can play night after night like that especially when on tour would drive me nuts.

Thorogood and his band are excellent musicians, but he spoils his songs beyond belief with his hopeless vocals. No range, no power - bland, bland, bland.
The man cannot sing, and should back of the vocals to let the guitar shine.
Cannot handle more than 10 minutes of his otherwise excellent music because of his belief he can sing and often will not shut up.
I know it's just a matter of opinion but you are WRONG.
Elvis he ain't and he's the first to admit it. But his voice has an unusual edge that that can be plaintive, aggressive, sexual, irreverent or whatever the song needs it to be.
You have no doubt what the song is about when George sings it.
and to re-enforce what the person below me said, think about it. how goofy would it sound if he didn't have his raspy, rough-edged voice when singing songs like "bad to the bone" or "one bourbon, one scotch, one beer". he'd sound like a pretentious ass.
i saw this band the other night. I was amazed how effortlessly georgy was playing and the thick heavy rock and roll coming out of his guitar. one of the best concert i've seen and i've seen many.
George Thorogood has been playing real, raw rock'n'roll for 30+ years. When I was in grade 8, my sister's boyfriend gave me the Move it on Over album. That was in 1979. Now you know why I didn't fall into the pop-crap music trap of the 80's. Thanks for saving me George and band.
This is not a John Lee Hooker's tune, Highway 49 is a original Joe Williams tune. A lot of artists playing that classic tune, even George Thorogood - the best!
George Thorogood was a sidewalk musician when I first saw him perform. He was playing a Chuck Berry song in front of Nemum Marcus in San Francisco at Christmas. Somehow, he'd gotten his amp plugged in and was playing some great rock n roll for us Christmas shoppers.
It was John Lee Hooker, alott of people covered JLH's music, The Doors covered Crawling King Snake. This Narrator doesnt know his shyte. It must suck for him knowing people know he doesnt know what hes talkin bout lol
With over 30 years performing, playing with some of the greatest guitar players of all times, songs that have become Icons in advertising, movies, and popular culture, and still having millions of fans throughout the world, without any radio air time, I THINK THIS GUY KNOWS HIS "SHYTE". What planet are you from anyhow?
Because he says "George Thorogood has written such classic tracks as, bad to the bone, I drink alone, ONE BOURBON ON SCOTCH ONE BEER and get a haircut"
He didnt write "One Bourbon"...
So WTF planet are you from. Do they all have their heads up their asses there or just you. NEXT TIME, actually listen to what the person says before trying to be a douche.
Even worse I just realised you think I was talking about George... Learn to read, I said Narrator, you dumb fuck.
Seen George in Vancouver B.C. probably 5-6 times over the years, He is GREAT, have just about every cd he put out, rocks any venue he is in.

that's crap. think honestly.
firstly, he has a great voice. he's a rock singer, not perry como.
secondly, you try playing such complex guitar lines fingerstyle and keep your vocals dead on. good luck
