  • never did find it, took the LONG walk. Hahhaha goonybirds

  • never could find the car

  • this warms my soul

  • The pure joy in the way that Jerry picks that guitar simply puts a smile on my ol' 'boat-race'! Bless Jerry, I still love you man.

  • God Bless Jerry

  • 4 years and 0 dislikes. Shows how great this band is

  • @immortalraven17 how could anyone ever dis like this song? like really :D

  • that Jerry was one cool mutherfucker when was in that nodding solo zone...

  • AND WE SANG THIS ONE ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE CAR. ALWAYS TOOK US SOOOO LONG TO FIND THE CAR, BUT WHAT AN AMAZING TRIP WE HAD. ANYONE REMEMBER THAT NO CANS OR BOTTLES ALLOWED IN THE THEATRE, BUT THEY WOULD LET US TAKE IN MILK JUGS OF KOOL AID AND WINE SACKS. NO WONDER WE COULDN'T FIND THE CAR. LOL SUNSHINE

  • This is the definition of "Undislikable"

  • I was at this show and many others at the Capital theater, in fact I have a front row center seat cushion that a Passic cop I knew grabbed for me when the tore the place down as well as a few bricks. A lot of great shows there.

  • shit on john kahn's grave, lol if only...

  • Wow! Very cool!

  • What a drag this is not better quality but you take what you can get. Both these shows were real nice, for whatever reason i did not dig the sounds of the organ this tour but as usual jerry just tore it up every night back in those days.I really miss those nights when the total cost of the tickets for both shows was like and i kid you not 18 bucks you heard me right and atsome of the college shows with a college I.D was 5 bucks. I really ,really miss that fun ,before anyone knew our little secret

  • @coyote023 Yeah, the video's rough, but it seems the audio is off the soundboard and sounds pretty clean. Maybe someone can confirm/deny.

  • This is fantastic! Jerry soulds so Fuckin good!

  • some damn fine guitar work in this version

  • It was at about this point in 1980 that Jerry stole my heart! For the next 15 years I danced with him every chance I had....live or memorex! How sweet it was!I don't know if he was "the best".....but no one else ever inspired me to hitch hike for hours for another spin on the dance floor!

  • Jerry week continues...

  • 8/1/10: Happy Birthday Jerry! We will ALWAYS Love You!!

  • 0 dislikes for this is infinitely too many.

  • i went to this show the day b4 i took my sat exam I did well

  • solo at 3:19

  • fuck you guys- this is goin through

  • Lot of people recorded this song. Marvin Gaye was the best. This is Jerry singing the Marvin Gaye version not the James Taylor. 30 years old and it seems like yesterday. It has a great beat and you can dance to it.

  • @Stank1938

I thought this was Jerry doing the Jr. Walker version but maybe you're right.

  • i cannot get enough JGB! is there any Legion of Mary or Reconstruction around? just wonderin' peace 2 all

  • SqueekyDeevah - EXACTLY! I still miss him so much.

  • Dear Mr. Garcia.... the boys @ girls from Fords N.J..... well ... we couldnt even begin to thank you enough.... you were better to us than we we're to ourselves....S T

  • So Cool to have the video with audio, Thank You!!! Sweet faced Jerry....such a Truly Beautiful Man.....mmm...

  • the not-so-fat man ROCKS!

  • I Loved Jerry and Always will!!! It was such a JOY to see him do his set right after Bobby and Rob!! Alpine was the best in it's day!!! So glad to have the memories in my heart that I will cherish forever!!!!!!!

  • I remember listening to this on the radio way back when.. WBCN in Boston picked it up...Cool to see.

  • FreePercussion: No doubt about Kean College, Midnight Moonlight is my fav on the album. I remember l listened to that version about 50 times one day, couldn't get enough. Just dynamite!

  • Hey man, do you know where to dowload that Kean College '80 show on the internet? The JG website has been closed for quite a while and it's nowhere to be seen on itunes. I agree! That show kicks ass!

  • Sorry I don't, the CD was a gift to me and a good one at that!

  • SWEET!

  • this recording is great, jerrys music is so pure

  • I recommend 'Run for the Roses' by JGB, my favorite album of theirs, for those interested!

  • what are you talkin about? jerry sounds great, this show is incredible all the way through

  • Yea Jerry....you brighten up all my days

  • So well said volcom

This tune just makes me smile.

  • not a fan of the snythesizer though. Merl would kill the organ back in the mid 70s. That's the only flaw with this version.

  • 16 years old, just saw my first dead show in MA last spring. Heading to two phish shows next week.

  • I was born in 1983. I will be listening until the day I die. This is as close to perfect as music can get.

If you like this, pick up the live album After Midnight: Kean College, 2/28/80. Crystal clear sound, it's like Jerry is singing in your ear. It's in my top 3 albums for sure.

  • Thanks, for this ! will get that LP, Im still looking for a show from 2/29/80 ? do you know anything about that one ? Has a wonderful setlist of Jerry " Rare- ies " :)

  • Jerry's vocals are particularly lovely, and obviously the playing as well.

  • b e a u t i f u l

  • sounds just like home!!!

  • viva la raza

  • I have no love for the cops and neither did they.

  • who plays like garcia

  • JERRY MADE SAD A J T HAPPY SONG.

    GREAT

  • Excuse me for saying this, but If you fail to hear the emotion in his voice you are an ignoramus. Happy Bday Jerry!

  • that first vocal line just put a huge grin on my face

  • Jerry's vocals always sounded so fragile, in a most excellent and wonder ful way.

He could get more out of a clean guitar solo than half the boneheads today can get out of twenty pedals and two racks full of shit.

  • He was, he was was my friend :-)

  • Man Jerry was such an amazing human being. His solos are just amazing, slow, packed with emotion...the way i like them:)

I never tought I can miss a man so much!

  • I know what you mean . I miss those times. whenever I think about them tears of joy come to my eyes

  • what a sweet bass intro

  • Excellent cover!! Jerry takes this great song and makes it own(as he did so often in the JGB) Great music.

  • sigh

  • Everyone in this band is long dead except for the keyboard player. But it doesn't seem that way... weird

  • ya their sound will echo around forever even if gone. didn't the bass player go on the same day that tim leary went?

  • 23, they really hit the spot.

  • 25 yrs old, lovin the dead... Just gettin better and better with age!!!

  • the keyboards-laser shit is detracting but Jerry rules

  • 16, from New York. I cant put in words how much I love them.

  • Lovit, lovit, lovit!

  • I'm 48 years old. I was at this show and well over 100 jerry & dead shows pre 1990s. A few after that, but life is such. I was never a pajama deadhead, but those that were, knew me on the east coast. I miss them all like I miss Jerry. A Jersey guy, I have a front row seat cushion from the Capital Theater that I got from a Passaic cop when the place was torn down. The Capital hosted so many great shows, Jerry Acoustic w/ Dr. John and more. Great memories. Thanks TS Penn

  • 20 years old, cant explain how much the dead have influenced my life. The movement is alive and well. By the way this video is great. Get em Jer

  • 24 year old deadhead here, movement is still alive especially in the festival scene. one love!

  • How many people here are under the age of 30...just out of curiosity i just want to see if the deadhead movement is still running strong!

  • I'm only 26 and I've been jamming to the dead and all good jam bands since I was 12. As a musician myself Jerry & co. have left an unfathomable impression upon my approach to music, not to mention my life in general. He will always live on through his extensive body of work that he left for us privildged few who have the duty to pass it on.

  • im 15 my dad gotme into the dead.

since he passed 2years ago ive come to like the dead more and more

  • he is good

  • perfect

  • pretty sweet is right!

  • phugginmissim...

  • the world was simply a better place when jerry was in it ....

  • correct on th e Calderone, i was just 14 yr old punk, great show, never forget

  • sometimes, i forget what specifically made garcia so amazing. when i look back at the clips, i realize that it wasn't his technique, which was hot and cold. that wasn't what he was about. he used what he had to tell a story. and that story was INTERESTING. if sometimes he overplayed, it was because he was GOING FOR IT. too bad there are no others like him.

  • @2gruV4u over played hahahahhhahaha no way man!!!!

  • @2gruV4u Wow.... Well said, and amazingly exactly what i needed to hear at this particular moment in time...

  • well done, jerry was on fire.

  • I had the chance to meet the man at one of these shows......a casual meeting as he was approaching the stage from the back room in a small venue..."Jerry"

    we shared a brotherly hug.....

He stared at me the rest of the show....OMG

jus kidding, but we since made lots of "I"

His spirit stays with me to this day

  • Jerry was clearly enjoying the moment, the show, the tour! Saw the band a couple nights before this one at UMass and they RIPPED a smokin' Sugaree to open the second show. My jaw dropped to the floor. This man came to play!

  • thanks for sharing! sounds killer

  • Is that Dan "Dan-O" Near talking over the start of the song? Way to go!

Thanks for the great post! I remember taping this show off the radio (102.7 WNEW used to rock!). If memory serves, there was another radio broadcast of JGB at The Calderone Music Hall on Long Island the same week on 92.7 WLIR. Robert Hunter joined JGB onstage and did Tiger Rose and a KILLER Promentory Rider. Can anyone verify, correct and/or supply that show?

  • February 29th, 1980

  • @TallBrianFromNapa u couldent be talkink...Dano.. the human jubox?....dresses up like grace slick on a few nights a year.......well that adds...more smirk to the smirking out law....

  • @TallBrianFromNapa Tiger Rose>Promontory Rider. There is an official release called "After Midnight", Kean College, 2/28/80 with Hunter doing those two songs with JGB. Most excellent. Perhaps what you are talking about (or were talking about 3 years ago, LOL)

  • How Sweet It Was...

  • Jerry is a legend

  • Yes sir
