It worked so well even Humphries had to take a moment to compose. Genius!
Oh and tonyking, your explanation of the joke was fine but no need to be condescending just because someone else doesn't see it right away. Understand? I'll presume not.
wow, this is like sharp wit at the speed of light, icould never catch up with her. i wish more celebs dared to do interviews with her, its always hilarious
I have no association whatsoever with the entertainment industry, these are merely my observations, but I'd welcome any intelligent discourse of 'what happened here', from an insider's point of view, I'd like to know, so that I might better understand, and appreciate.
*sigh* How have some british comedians become so famous after we've experienced edna!! they're absolute embarrasments in comparison :( and yes that includes andy parsons....
We all know Pierce Morgan, as someone who speaks his mind...almost like a Simon Cowell. Got to give it Dame Edna, because only she can put them in their place. LOL!!!!
To me it sounded more like "not quite likely", which makes more sense, since Piers is a known detractor of travestites and didn't want to be compared with one. His remark actually was an insult, which also explains Edna's (and Piers') facial expression. Her reaction and Dave's spontanuous burst of laughter saved the moment and turned a potential embarrasment into a monument of adhoc humor.
Pure genius, like the man himself. Can anyone upload the entire interview with Piers Morgan? Or ANY other Dame Edna material? Watched all of what is currently on YouTube several times over, never grow tired of it ;-)
the 'Audience With' filmed for LWT in the 80's are genius...not sure if the whole thing is on ytube...Edna systematically dissects every royal/celebrity/politician in the audience.......
Ahhh, yes yes..! I get it now! So she did it deliberately! Genius! Damn, what a good comeback on words XD and to think that only Brits can do that, and she is Aussie :)
macmusikpro, and you seem surprised that Aussies have a cutting wit, to top it off you say "she" is an Aussie, wrong! he is an Aussie, Barry is a hetero male so it's actually A double whammy, surprising how males he gets to kiss him also.
@tonyrking , actually Peirce said "I quite like that", not "I quite like them"
Saying "I like them" makes no sense!
And Macmusikpro asked a polite question which you answered in an unnecessarily condescending way, making you appear ignorant opposed to your attempt to make him/her feel that way. GET It!? (I'll presume not still)
Barry Humphries is an absolute bloody genius. He is extremely intelligent and this is what puts him above the rest. Just wish there was more of him on the T.V.Thanks for posting this.
ahhhh now i understand it. It's "funny" because "wha?" isn't a strong reactions. Well knock me over with a feather I say, this is going down in my jotter book of witicisms. This is right up there with, dare i say it, Noel Edmonds.
Although Barry Humphries is a genius, i don't think this is deserving of some of the fatuous reviews given by some others.
Just got my ticket for the fabulous Dame Edna at the Ahmanson Theater on June 16. I'll be in the 3rd row! I want to see her facial expressions. Gonna be a blast.
Just remember to hide whenever she looks your way. I always remember how awful she was to poor Olive whenever i hear someone who has bought a tickets to her shows.
I know not the person you speak of, said Olive. But I do know that Dame Edna is the funniest woman on the planet. I scored a third row seat and I'm gonna have a blast. I saw the Dame on her last tour and laughed my arse off.
Enjoy it I did. What about that frock she was wearing? It made her look like a purple ostrich! I won't resemble a bird, but rest assured I will be decked out in my finest for the Dame. She deserved nothing less.
HAHAHAHAHA - you funny. She was merciless but in a good way. The first time i saw Dame Edna was in Ally Mcbeal after that i just looked for everything she was on. I enjoyed the way she was walking to view how symmetrical Olive's face was -- Hilarious. Have fun with the Dame.
I got lucky with my ticket. I stumbled upon a single seat in the 3rd row on a Tuesday night. Score for one lucky ducky! No balcony seat for me. This time I'm going to be up close and personal with the Dame, even if it kills me (with laughter, of course).
Because Dame Edna question starts "You inspire strong reactions", but then when he replies she says "wha" meaning she couldn't be bothered listening to the pompous news paper editor Piers Morgan's answer.
timing is the name of the game if you dont have it you dont understand comedy.....so if your american just watch friends...what a crock of shit........understand british humour like python, gervais, cook and moore....
nah whats the point just keep watching friends and getting fat....oh yeah and raging war on people who dont deserve it.....GODBLESS AMERICA....ps have you got a number i can call to send money to on a sunday to a guy with a dodgy wig...HEAL!HEAL!HEAL!
