  • If in the future I go down into depression, I will watch this show to bring back my spirits.

  • 100% LEGEND!

  • I love the way Dame Edna puts one over on the snooty Piers Morgan.

  • m' godfathers, i've been in some restaurants in my time time but aint never seen service like this.

  • It worked so well even Humphries had to take a moment to compose. Genius!

Oh and tonyking, your explanation of the joke was fine but no need to be condescending just because someone else doesn't see it right away. Understand? I'll presume not.

  • My god her timing is absolutely impeccable!

  • Anyone that makes Morgan look a cunt gets my vote.

  • @dilwich123 Then you'll probably be voting for his face.

  • wow, this is like sharp wit at the speed of light, icould never catch up with her. i wish more celebs dared to do interviews with her, its always hilarious

  • PRESS 3 LMAO!

  • This is what's known as "rapier wit".

  • Pier's responded...

like a deer would respond to a car...

just about to hit the deer...

    on the road.

In this case Deer Piers laughs....

    because the drivers are laughing...

    after he's been hit.

  • That's the funniest thing!

  • Piers only laughs when Matt and Lucus start.... he is genuinely unmoved... and takes himself seriously LOL

  • This, to me, is the essence of comedic timing.

The set-up, the plant, the pause, the response.

    Classic.

I have no association whatsoever with the entertainment industry, these are merely my observations, but I'd welcome any intelligent discourse of 'what happened here', from an insider's point of view, I'd like to know, so that I might better understand, and appreciate.

    Thanks.

  • "Morge" - it doesn't get better than that!!!

  • GENIUS! end of.

  • Piers Organ eat your heart out! You could NEVER interview this well.

  • david´s laugh...best laugh 4 life :D

  • Lol she totally rips that ugly dude apart! Funniest thing ever!

  • Dame Edna is such a legend!!!! :L

  • and I love how piers is slower at getting it than the othes :3

  • *sigh* How have some british comedians become so famous after we've experienced edna!! they're absolute embarrasments in comparison :( and yes that includes andy parsons....

  • hilarious

  • v funny have you got the whole interview? i hate that twat Morgan glad he is going to USA :)

  • if you can make those people laugh you are GENIUS

  • Brilliant !

  • We all know Pierce Morgan, as someone who speaks his mind...almost like a Simon Cowell. Got to give it Dame Edna, because only she can put them in their place. LOL!!!!

  • He actually says "I quite like that"

  • @tonyrking

To me it sounded more like "not quite likely", which makes more sense, since Piers is a known detractor of travestites and didn't want to be compared with one. His remark actually was an insult, which also explains Edna's (and Piers') facial expression. Her reaction and Dave's spontanuous burst of laughter saved the moment and turned a potential embarrasment into a monument of adhoc humor.

    That's real genius!!

  • @mohasi3 Don't mean to argue, but he says it pretty clearly, "I quite like that", not "not quite likely"

  • @mohasi3

You know, after listening over and over again I feel as if he did say not quite likely

-3- but thats just meh...an innocent bystander *runs away in a hurry*

Hahaha you rock Dame Edna haha

  • @mohasi3 wha?

  • Edna is quicker than whip smart.....

  • Haha! Fucking perfect!

  • Im overwhlemed by the power of the dame!

  • LOL!!!

  • Genius! I love it! Thanks Barry

  • thats what u call perfect timing

  • you don't get it??? That's a funny as "wha...?"

  • Man, is Humphreys sharp! Awesome!

  • It's just too funny.

  • i x undrstand

  • lmaooo <3 i lovee it :) xx

  • Please post some more of this hilarious, hilarious Dame Edna Gold!

  • That was hilarious.

  • The man is a genius

  • I will honestly NEVER get sick of watching this, comic timing at it's best!!

I love how Walliams & Lucas appreciate it too!

  • That was hysterical hahaha

  • Dame Edna's Neighborbood Watch is hilarious...

  • Pure genius, like the man himself. Can anyone upload the entire interview with Piers Morgan? Or ANY other Dame Edna material? Watched all of what is currently on YouTube several times over, never grow tired of it ;-)

  • the 'Audience With' filmed for LWT in the 80's are genius...not sure if the whole thing is on ytube...Edna systematically dissects every royal/celebrity/politician in the audience.......

  • I saw Barry Humphries live last week and it was hilarious. This is a superb demonstration of comic timing.

  • I dont quite understand it, can anyone tell me whats happen? please..

  • Okay, it's quite simple.. The comment was that he inspires strong reactions much like dame does.. to which he replied "I quite like them"

Now then.. here's the punch line, concentrate..

Dame simply said "wha?" .. which WAS NOT a STRONG REACTION!!.. GET IT?!!

    (I'll presume not still)

  • Ahhh, yes yes..! I get it now! So she did it deliberately! Genius! Damn, what a good comeback on words XD and to think that only Brits can do that, and she is Aussie :)

    Thanks Tony, I appreciate it.

  • macmusikpro, and you seem surprised that Aussies have a cutting wit, to top it off you say "she" is an Aussie, wrong! he is an Aussie, Barry is a hetero male so it's actually A double whammy, surprising how males he gets to kiss him also.

  • I know she's a he, I was referring to the character Dame Edna.

  • oh now i get it,i just tough that he said something she could not understand and then replayed with the whau!!????

  • @tonyrking , actually Peirce said "I quite like that", not "I quite like them"

Saying "I like them" makes no sense!

And Macmusikpro asked a polite question which you answered in an unnecessarily condescending way, making you appear ignorant opposed to your attempt to make him/her feel that way. GET It!? (I'll presume not still)

  • @tonyrking umm I'm pretty sure he says "Oh quite likely" not 'I quite like them'

  • @tonyrking

    HAHAHAHA!

  • @tonyrking - For people whose native language is not English, the subtlties and timing of humour is often the most difficult of all to understand.

  • @tonyrking lol! I have to watch this once in a while to understand why I dislike Piers Morgan and how much I love Dame Edna

  • Barry Humphries is an absolute bloody genius. He is extremely intelligent and this is what puts him above the rest. Just wish there was more of him on the T.V.Thanks for posting this.

  • She's so fantastic.

  • Set him up and nailed him effortlessly. He didn't see it coming at all. Genius.

  • That's all right. Wit isn't for everyone. Be secure in the knowledge that the hive cannot function without mindless drones.

  • ahhhh now i understand it. It's "funny" because "wha?" isn't a strong reactions. Well knock me over with a feather I say, this is going down in my jotter book of witicisms. This is right up there with, dare i say it, Noel Edmonds.

Although Barry Humphries is a genius, i don't think this is deserving of some of the fatuous reviews given by some others.

  • the funny part is dame edna not paying any attention to his comment......therefore having no reaction......WHA?....

  • lol

  • Thanks - I spat a mouthful of biscuit. One of the funniest things on youtube.

  • Was that Piers from Britain's Got Talent?

  • Yes

  • She´s fantastic, so subtle

  • i can't stop watching this either!!! absolutely fantastic!!! i would really love to see the rest of this show....

  • I love her!!

  • classic!!! and with just one word!!!

  • She nailed it - and it's not even a full word! Gotta love edna.

  • OMG I can't stop watching this video! LOL

  • LMAO SOOOOO FUNNY!!

  • this....

    is....

    hilarious!

  • Fantastic makes me laugh every time

  • Perfect timing, perfectly pitched -- he's a genius!

  • Surely you mean she. Remember there's nothing like a dame, especially when the dame in question is Dame Edna.

  • You're absolutely right. Forgive me. I was confused.

  • Just got my ticket for the fabulous Dame Edna at the Ahmanson Theater on June 16. I'll be in the 3rd row! I want to see her facial expressions. Gonna be a blast.

  • Just remember to hide whenever she looks your way. I always remember how awful she was to poor Olive whenever i hear someone who has bought a tickets to her shows.

  • I'll do no such thing. I hope Dame Edna invites me up on the stage with her.

  • Have you watched how she crucified poor Olive???? But i love me some Dame Edna. Have fun. ;)

  • I know not the person you speak of, said Olive. But I do know that Dame Edna is the funniest woman on the planet. I scored a third row seat and I'm gonna have a blast. I saw the Dame on her last tour and laughed my arse off.

  • Check out this clip "Dame Edna - Just for Laughs 2005".

ITA Dame Edna is one of the favorite funniest comedian of mine too. You are gonna laugh your heart out when you see this clip. Enjoy

  • Enjoy it I did. What about that frock she was wearing? It made her look like a purple ostrich! I won't resemble a bird, but rest assured I will be decked out in my finest for the Dame. She deserved nothing less.

  • HAHAHAHAHA - you funny. She was merciless but in a good way. The first time i saw Dame Edna was in Ally Mcbeal after that i just looked for everything she was on. I enjoyed the way she was walking to view how symmetrical Olive's face was -- Hilarious. Have fun with the Dame.

  • I got lucky with my ticket. I stumbled upon a single seat in the 3rd row on a Tuesday night. Score for one lucky ducky! No balcony seat for me. This time I'm going to be up close and personal with the Dame, even if it kills me (with laughter, of course).

  • Bloody hilarious!

  • barry humphreys is a genius - he makes other comedians look like ameters with his fast delivery and knowledge of language and words

  • I totally agree. A very very clever fellow.

  • ha ha.. that is so funny

  • Humphries is fantastic, great timing and delivery. I saw him perform live recently, he's still great at 74!

  • omfg..... soooooooo funny

  • the timingm it's all about the timing!

  • what was so funny here?

  • Because Dame Edna question starts "You inspire strong reactions", but then when he replies she says "wha" meaning she couldn't be bothered listening to the pompous news paper editor Piers Morgan's answer.

  • got it now, thanx! i think that the most funny part here is to hear David's laughter :-)

  • Nooooo, the joke is that "wha?" is not the sort of response someone who inspires strong reactions should get. It's ironic

  • That is brilliant! Humphries is an absolute genius!

  • HHAHAHA.

  • that's brilliant! Haaaa

  • OMG i can hardly breath!! She's amazing!

  • His laughter is slightly annoyed

  • timing is the name of the game if you dont have it you dont understand comedy.....so if your american just watch friends...what a crock of shit........understand british humour like python, gervais, cook and moore....

nah whats the point just keep watching friends and getting fat....oh yeah and raging war on people who dont deserve it.....GODBLESS AMERICA....ps have you got a number i can call to send money to on a sunday to a guy with a dodgy wig...HEAL!HEAL!HEAL!

  • Morge? ahahaha...

that's what I'm going to call him from now on...^^

  • Hilarious!

  • Watch her razor sharp send up and delivery.

It is pitched Right over the plate for the audiance and then taht perfectly timed laonic reacion. Brillinat. As we say in the states, she tied a red bow on it and Kicked it right back to him.

  • Christ, who it the states says that... ;)

  • wha?

  • Morgan is mercilessly put down here. Excellent!

  • yeah he so doesn't get the gag

  • he had to fake that laugh at himself. hahaha. ouch. dame edna put him back on the shelf. :)

  • i am not english and consequently i lack the english sense of humor can some one pleaze explain what was funny about that .i am not trying to be funny seriosly want to know.

  • Dame Edna was highlighting his insignificance despite his assertion that he enjoys inspiring strong reactions. Kenneth Williams would have considered this a quite good acid drop.

  • i laugh because its directed at piers morgen, who in the uk, and now it seems the world thanks to the debarcled talent show viruses, is famed for his sensationalist offerings on events major and minor: mainly for attention : he was the former editor of a tabloid in the UK and was fired for allowing fake pictures to do with the war in Iraq to be published: sensationalised...and so it goes...

  • american humor is placed in front of your face most of the time...you don't have to figure it out.

most of the time british humor you have to be quick and think about it a little.

i'm american and thats my perception.

  • This isn't British humour it is Australian Humour. Barry Humphries is Australian.

  • Different rock same people,Prisoners Of Mother England POMES (POMS) were shipped off to Australia but i dont think they left thier humor at the door for infact they started calling the free peoples of England POMS even though they were talking about themselves now theres ironic humor for you at its best.

  • America was once a British colony and they don't have the same humour and besides Australian humour is different to british humour, maybe you haven't seen many Australian comedies.

  • I don't think Americans have ANY humour...>.> If they do it's more like a trickle compared to Britian's/Australia's waterfalls...it's the main reason those countries are islands..they flooded themselves with laughter...

  • hallo NALYD124 i,ve seen your site and of course even you will admit theres nothing on it......but you miss the point which was that ironicaly the prisoners of england "poms" were shipped of to aus. and then they said for whatever reason that the free poeples of england were the prisoners hence the irony,do you see that, now theres humor for ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I honestly can't stop watching this. My stomach hurts! It is black belt timing, just perfect.

And how hot is David when laughing!

  • Oh Man...I could watch this all day log.

  • i love this, i can watch it over and over and it still makes me laugh lol

  • I was going to take the time to explain it but frankly i couldn't be arsed. You get it or you don't. I do! :D

  • This is the funniest laugh if you have a sense of humour, poor ChloeDust

  • Don't patronise me, i get it now, and i do have a sense of humour i just didn't understand this at first, don't be so rude.

  • i love it xx

  • aw i love this lol xx

  • i don't get this, lol how has dame owned piers? Whats the joke people? :o

  • He says that he loves strong reactions so she gives a really small one lol

  • Wow why did i get voted down? I was just asking a question, jeez, i get it now btw, thanks to the person who kindly responded.

  • Jesus. This kicks it. Too funny.

  • Does anyone have the interview she did with Alan Alda and Shane Warne.. I thought how she handled shane was classic! And Alan was just laughing the whole time... and how orange can shane warne get? lmfao :) If anyone has it I would love to watch it again. It was hilarious! Thanks for these bits!

  • This never stops making me laugh

  • Ripped!

  • Speaking for ALL here PLEASE upload the whole show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Absolutely, YES!

  • Awesome, owned Pier Moron, gotta watch this twice

  • If I recall correctly, "Moron" got repeatedly pwned hard in this interview.

  • Nice one, I hope Tonyrking uploads the whole show!

  • (^-^)/OMG FRIGGIN HILARIOUS!!!

  • is there going to be second series of the show

  • god I hope so!

  • Oh God, that is bloody brillian!! Not only can I watch Dame Edna over & over but Matt Lucas's reaction is just priceless. I can't stop watching this!!!

  • It's class the way he takes her so seriously, and just walks into a pisstake of mammoth proportions!

  • thats exactly how old ladies say what wen they arent listening perfect!!

  • A favorite Dame Edna-ism: she gets a raucous reaction from guests and audience, then chides them with a "No!" or "No, please!", as though they're at fault for laughing; happens off camera in this clip, but you can hear her say it

  • Yeah, just basically not giving him a strong reaction. So brilliant.

  • Classic! Love Piers' nametag-MORGE!

  • What does he say? I'm sorry, but I come from Italy and I don't understand English very much when people speak fast... Thanks! :)

  • "Do you inspire strong reactions as I do?"

Morge answers " I quiet like that"

Dame Edna replies "Wha" Then just laughter. It is really the timing more than the comments.

  • Her own reaction is the opposite of what she just said to him and what he expects from her!

  • When I first watched this I thought what the heck.....now I have watched it probably 30 times I think that it is bloody marvellous...nobody but the great Barry Humphries could pull it off.

  • Even Barry had trouble holding it together!

  • It's absolutelty perfect.

  • I've watched this clip so many times and it still cracks me up. David Walliams laugh is a great reaction. Love Dame Edna!

  • Actually that's Matt Lucas.

  • luv dame edna that was hilarious :D x

  • Thats brilliant :-)

  • i dont get it

  • "You inspire strong reactions". Then she ignores what he says.

It takes 50 years on stage to get that sort of timing. Brilliant.

  • that is sheer brilliance, great comic timing

  • man! thats genious wit!!!!!

  • HAhaah i'm gonna pee my pants! that face Edna pulls of is hilarious!
